My suggestion is to combine it with some big car/truck show, or swap meet like Charlotte, Carlisle, Pate(Texas), etc, and rope off our own area or something. Maybe it would draw more trucks & members. jamie72 07-10-2007, 03:39 PM Well, I've got this little piece of land down in Louisiana.... The west coast has been brought up, but nothing definate. LUV2XCLR8 07-10-2007, 03:59 PM HERE (http://www.cityofjackson.net/departments/recpark/facilities/special/fairgrounds.html) :D Located on Highway 45 just south of downtown Jackson is Fairgrounds Park, a facility with usage limited only by the imagination. The park has been used for fairs, corporate functions, flea markets, craft shows, Auto shows, boat and sportsman exhibits, dances, parties of all types, family reunions, class reunions, carnivals, pageants, banquets, concerts, antique exhibits, political functions, church events, educational fairs, weddings, receptions conventions, cattle shows, scouting jamborees, etc. The main exhibit building is 25,000 square feet & the 2 covered pavilions are 11,000 square feet each. There are grandstand facilities, a quarter-mile track and public fishing lakes. On the developmental horizon is the construction of a livestock pavilion. Other amenities include: catering services, concession, box office, adequate restrooms, tables and chairs, staging equipment, lectern, sound system, 1,200 lighted parking spaces, security for events / parking area. It also has camper hookups, btw the Main exhibit building above is enclosed ;) If you flew -> Memphis Airport is 1 Hour West / Nashville Airport is 2 Hours East Russell 07-10-2007, 05:19 PM Do something a bit further north -- Can't afford to drive for 6 days straight, lol How about Montana? Thats only about 14 hours away... Phuloi68 07-10-2007, 05:38 PM I have been to both meets and there is something to be said about each. To me, this one at Boss"s place was much nicer because everyone could relax and meet others. It was a very laid back weekend. If it's done in conjunction with a car show or something like that, there is less getting to know everyone and more out and about.. We all can go to car shows/swap meets most anytime. But to just kick back and relax and enjoy..... It appeared the wives and children that were there, were also enjoying it. Just my opinion. True, it did give the kids a better place to play. We could have our own show in a park or something, which would give it more of a public draw, just not as much of a member draw as what one of the big car shows would. Longhorn Man 07-10-2007, 06:36 PM Down South!:D Norwood wasn't south enough for you? :haha: krue 07-10-2007, 06:39 PM Heck no! Can't tell you how disappointed I was that I couldn't be there. I like the idea of it even being before or after a larger car/truck show as was stated also but, I loved this one being members and family oriented. Layed back. Dead center the country is the best that I can think of as for the Annual Board Meet and then most can try to make it from where ever they are located. The indavidual regions can always set-up there own mini-meet's and can convoy to the Annual Board Wide Meet. I know that if it any further than this one a plane ticket will be in my future. And with that being said I think it would still be well worth it to me. Plan Plan and more Plan that way even more can set the time aside for the next one. OUR WE THERE YET!?!?!?:metal: RJ22...:) llama 07-11-2007, 08:46 AM Let"s try to put it close to a major airport so people could fly in and rent a car. llama 07-11-2007, 08:52 AM Moving it around the country is a great idea also. augie 07-11-2007, 11:32 AM I will agree with the close to a major airport idea, especially a regional or national hub, could really help out those who have to fly. Orange 07-11-2007, 11:43 AM Well, I have been planning a trip to the new Creation Science Museum, and some friends of mine have already been - and here is one of their major selling points. "The Creation Museum is located just 7 miles west of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and within a day’s drive of almost 2/3 of the U.S. population (within 650 miles of the museum)." That is a heck of a location if you ask me! (Cincinnati metro area). You have accessibility to 2/3 of the US in 1 day, and there is definitely the stuff around. I would probably have to drive up for that one. DLB wedgemon 07-11-2007, 11:45 AM My vote is for West. I'm thinking, So Calif to coincide with the Brothers Show (Too many attractions to mention for visitors!). Or Central Cal around the time of the Truckin Nationals or Good Guys, or Paso Robles. Or, (this thought has been lurking for two years!), Reno first week in August, during Hot August Nights. I'm betting we could co-erce the owners of Reno-Fernley Raceway ( http://www.reno-fernleyraceway.com (http://www.reno-fernleyraceway.com)) into allowing us space for the Meet-Up and camping space. (Good P/R for them!!). We could also sponsor a Drag, Pull, Mud Bog, Sand Drag etc there. http://www.reno-fernleyraceway.com/images/Facility_view_550.jpg Plus, with Hot Agust Night going on, Cruises in Downtown Reno & Sparks every night for 10 Days. Plus Show and Shines at every Major Hotel/Casino, There's plenty to do. And, mostly all FREE!! http://www.hotaugustnights.net/ My other thought is to pick a national loop - Like: Dallas, Vegas, Yellowstone, Mall of America, Gettysburg, Mobile. - That way everyone in the country would have about a 1 day drive to meet-up, and/or join the caravan to the next site. No one would be committed to the whole loop unless they wished to do so. Just thinking. Also, We ought to start an initial POLL as to North South East or West preferences, then a follow up poll on locations in the select (polled) map point. Just more thining. - Dave LUV2XCLR8 07-11-2007, 03:17 PM Everyone has made great points and had great ideas, but.................... remember this takes alot of planning and funds. (I don't even think they raised enough to cover the expenses) One of the main things that drives these things is funds. It was mentioned last year about having one out near Vegas, but it was killed due to lack of funds / possible low turn out. The more that turn out, the more funds you raise and lets face it (This part is not ment to be rude) The areas of the last 2 are closest to the areas that have the most mini meets / cookouts / etc........ That says that if you have it around the middle you will get the most show up. I'm all for having it anywhere, if you can draw the crowds and the funds. I may have to fly like some mentioned but I would try to attend them. ;) *The above paragraph was not ment to hurt anyones feelings and or slam any particular areas and should be taken w/ a grain of salt. It is only the $.02 of the one that typed it all out and shouldn't be dwelled on for very long or be deemed as very credible considering the source. hgs_notes 07-11-2007, 05:27 PM I think the upper midwest would be great. Maybe somewhere west of the Chicago area, Madison,WI, NE Iowa, Des Moines Close enough for some of the canucks. krue 07-11-2007, 07:06 PM How about a contest, split the country into regions and have a meet in each. The one with the most turnout holds the annual. Just an idea, any way it goes I'll probably be a long way from it. hgs_notes 07-11-2007, 08:53 PM How about a contest, split the country into regions and have a meet in each. The one with the most turnout holds the annual. Just an idea, any way it goes I'll probably be a long way from it. I wouldn't bet on it. Seems there is a large contingent of southern folks here. To me thats anything south of Iowa. With the number of Texans and going east from there, my guess is anything north of St. Louis will never happen for a national meet. Liz 07-11-2007, 09:39 PM just a few comments on what we have read thus far. 1. The meets need to be somewhat central location for a national one ( in theory) indy was due to those in Canada confirmed coming etc. Norwood.. well its pretty well slap in the middle.. it was less miles for the Canadian members who came this time, then some of the east coast members. 2. West coast, its been said time and time again. Tho I would like to see the west coast one day, I dont want to attempt to plan something there from the east coast. Also, and again not to sound hateful, where are all the regional meets on the west coast? If ya'll want a major one, start hosting some smaller ones as well :) 3. We do have an offer for it to be at a show next year. One that is pretty central located and would have a section for our trucks etc. but like it has been said.. the non show one was much more friendly and relaxed atmosphere. 4. The loose ends from this one havent even been tied up yet ;) so give it a few. 5. Well I didnt feel like leaving it at four and im sure there is somethin i coulda said but didnt yet :) anyway... west coast people show your love and start throwing some regional stuff together. People who want this to happen again and are vocal in that, PM us and volunteer to help plan the next one out. Everyone else, set back enjoy the site and friends we have, and watch for details in the next few months for the next major event. Till then check out the board meets areas and see how many mini events you can attend. Longhorn Man 07-11-2007, 09:46 PM Party At Liz's Place!!!!! I have about an acre on a hill and would love to do something if there was interest.. of course it all depends on how my wife is doing too bobbo 07-11-2007, 11:04 PM I have a zippo... I'll take care of the back yard! :)) I'll bring the gas! Oh, wait, maybe not, can't afford it...:o RicksTrucks 07-11-2007, 11:07 PM I have 8 acres (and cheap hotels nearby) and plan on having a mini Oklahoma event sometime this fall. Don't know yet whether it will be just a day event or an overnighter. Depending upon the interest may even include our cousins in northern Texas and southern KS & MO. I think we need a bunch of little ones to stir the interest and show everyone how much fun these really are. If we have enough small ones, I think the energy and momentum will head us towards a really nice National event, or like Liz said maybe a couple split between the coasts (like Vegas and Atlanta - or something like that) if we have enough volunteers. Not to be prejudiced, but the middle or mid-west does seem to be easier to get to for most. And let's face it, gas is usually more reasonable around here too. I know gas has been over $3, out in California, every trip I have made for a long time. bobbo 07-11-2007, 11:10 PM I am in the process of planning a mini-meet for Missouri. I am having alot of people signing up for the Chevy & GMC International Truck Club and am arranging something in the Springfield area. Just haven't worked out details yet, but will keep you posted. Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated too. :) LonghornJeff 07-11-2007, 11:32 PM To me a board meet is 2 or more members getting together and sharing the experence with the board. example: hey me and joe blow got together and worked on my truck then we ate food and talked about trucks, sports, family, work,ect... what a great weekend ...btw here are some pics.. :metal: also just because its a Ohio or Illinois or whatever state meet dont mean you cant join the fun HEFF bobbo 07-12-2007, 07:11 AM :agree: Palf70Step 07-12-2007, 07:26 AM Cruizin the Coast Guys....:D 1 week long! Where ever the next major meet is I sure plan on being there. 724x4a/cchevy 07-12-2007, 11:22 AM my vote goes for something more public. Something where we could spread the word to the public..There was a guy at the hotel in mt.grove when we left that was really into these trucks and i told him about it. It would probably have helped those who brought swap meet stuff to sell if it had been more public. 58 gmc 07-12-2007, 12:06 PM the geographical center of the continental u.s. is lebanon kansas, so maybe Salina, Kansas would be a central spot. wedgemon 07-12-2007, 12:15 PM No offense was taken on the West Coast offerings. I understand the logic in a Mid-U.S. meet. It's just that, as Liz so eloquently stated, closer for those that have show the effort and commitment, and where the majority live, will usually win this argument. That being said, I had the OK to go from the wife this year, but mandatory attendance at inventory at the workplace was my downfall. Plus, I could'nt have brought my truck as I would've been driving a rental down from Minnesota after a July wedding... Just let me know as soon as you have a location for next year. Maybe I'll have the 73 Blazer going for that one. - Dave ps: Left Coasties - Let's get some MORE local meets going. PSS: I REALLY want a meet tee shirt!! How do I get one?? JayG 07-12-2007, 12:59 PM I just checked. Lebanon is just about the same distance for me! hundred mi. or so longer, but when I'm cruising with my Honey, "it's all good!" It's just that, as Liz so eloquently stated, closer for those that have show the effort and commitment, and where the majority live, will usually win this argument. Hey now! I totally agree with heff on that... and I have to ask, the whole Heff... was that a typo of mine from way back in the day, and you and liz just keep it going to mess with me... like the brill? LUV2XCLR8 07-12-2007, 05:30 PM Memphis airport is less than 1 hour from the spot I posted, it can be ours and only ours if we want it that way, and my 20acres and toys are just a bit up the road, once I figure out the numbers I'm gonna throw a big one. Phuloi68 07-13-2007, 04:59 PM For consideration for next year. Northwest Indiana. It's out in the country just a little bit but close to many things. Major roads, easy to get to. Downtown Chicago approx 45 miles-Major airports in Ill. South Bend Regional airport(Notre Dame) about 35 miles. I65 close, 80-94 close, Ind Toll road close. Shopping, malls, Motels, everything within 10-20 minutes. Between me and a couple of neighbors, probably 40 acres of open land. Last picture of house on hill would probably be where most everything would center around. Local Target store(5 minutes away) lets their parking lot, on Friday nights, be a rod and custom show. Dozens of custom or really nice original vintage autos. I will try to get some pics tonight. If an article was put in paper, could make this pretty big or keep it just like this years.. Am attaching a few pics of the land here. Would make great camp sites, or Indiana Dunes National park is 15 Minutes away. Gambling boats 20-30 minutes away. Drawback. Mosquitoes(sp) By the way, Wikipedia states the nickname for Indiana is "Crossroads of America" wedgemon 07-13-2007, 05:28 PM Last picture of house on hill would probably be where most everything would center around. That's a hill?? This is the "Hill" out my back window. About 9500 ft, of course the flat land around here is at 4800 ft... http://www.adventuretourproductions.com/articles2005/images/summervacation/webwhaleback/mntshastasunset.jpg Just joking with ya (That is the local Hill though.) That Indiana thing might work next year. I could offer to vacation/work for a week or so out of my University Park facility. How far is that from the HILL??? - Dave Phuloi68 07-13-2007, 06:06 PM I stand corrected. What I meant to say was that house on the bump.:hm: Phuloi68 07-13-2007, 09:48 PM Just got back from the Target Store parking lot.Took a few pictures. There are several hundred cars and trucks there tonight. It's a free Friday night car show. LUV2XCLR8 07-13-2007, 09:54 PM That's no small cruise in, arounf here that's considered huge Phuloi68 07-13-2007, 09:54 PM A few more pics. This is about 4 miles from the house. Sure would be nice if a bunch of you board members all came rolling in together with a bunch of the rides you have to start off a board meet. Phuloi68 07-13-2007, 10:03 PM The couple of hundred I mentioned are what are just sitting there. There are probably 2-3-400(???) more just riding in and out around there also. I am kind of surprised that Target and Home Depot(there lot is half full) let this go on. On the other hand, all the resturants here are filled, Barnes and Nobles is too. Target is full of the Ladies shopping. I guess it's a win-win situation for all. N2TRUX 07-13-2007, 10:27 PM For consideration for next year. Northwest Indiana. ....This looks like a great place to consider. I "assume" that the cost would be within our budget. I suggest we set up like the Power Tour events do, and run organized road trips from 4-5 different parts of the country.I know a few did that this time, but maybe it could be expanded on...:) woodridge 07-13-2007, 10:31 PM We had a local sat night deal like that in a parking lot behing a Burger King and in front of a strip mall. Super cool! Phuloi68 07-13-2007, 10:44 PM We had a local sat night deal like that in a parking lot behing a Burger King and in front of a strip mall. A couple of stores complained and the cars got run off, now a couple of stores are out of business. Go figure. This has gone on every friday evening during the summer for several years. It appears that Target and the surrounding stores like it cause it brings A LOT of customers in, as well. They start filling up around 5 pm and stay for several hours. LUV2XCLR8 07-14-2007, 10:13 AM About 8 hours for me to you, mine won't make that trip unless on a trailer. dave3156 07-14-2007, 12:46 PM I will go to the next one where ever it is. Northern Indiana would be about 10 degrees cooler in July and still in the middle of the US. We also have the Friday cruise nights around St. Louis. Alot of them are sponsored by Lakers Car Club and draw nice crowds. Having the National when a club is having a Cruise Night would increase the draw from people who usually are not exposed to trucks. Most of the cruise nights are mostly cars, with very few trucks. It would mean we could have our own friendly meet with 1 night of exposure to big crowds. Sounds fun. Picture 30+ Chevy trucks pulling up together to one of those events, incredible. National magazines also cover some of these events, which could really give exposure. Locating closer to a bigger city has advantages. BOSS 07-14-2007, 11:05 PM we could have exposed more for this meet also but wanted this one for members only as for cost wise and liability issues arise when you have more involved also.so that will be something else for us to consider :) centsless 07-15-2007, 11:22 PM I liked the relaxed atmosphere at Boss's. It was great being able to lounge around and meet people. As for the location, 1125 miles was the limit for me. I would like to see the next one in the southeast area. that is wheree a lot of the members seem to be, and it is a nice area to get together in. Wherever it is, we will do everything we can to make it! We had a blast and would love to do it again!! HuggerCST 07-16-2007, 12:33 AM Why don't we start a poll on what part of the country to have it and go from there. Putter 07-16-2007, 09:06 AM Okay, I am cool with almost all the suggestions. WE CAN NOT HAVE IT AT KRUE'S HOUSE. I got lost with him on the phone giving turn-by-turn directions....and I live in Mississippi.
