View Full Version : What are the chances ? NONHOG 09-05-2007, 03:03 PM of this lasting ? looks so cool ! What do the expert's say ? Shane 09-05-2007, 03:49 PM It looks to be clear coated, so I would think it would be pretty durable. 72BlckButy 09-05-2007, 08:29 PM It looks to be clear coated, so I would think it would be pretty durable. :agree: salazar44 09-05-2007, 08:37 PM How did the clear adhere to it? Is it bare metal? Mike 85 09-05-2007, 10:21 PM Probbly not as long as most think. Just cause it's cleared does not mean it won't rust. ANY moisture under the clear will start to rust sooner or later. Hand prints, humidity, any type of moisture will show up eventually. We had a discussion the other night about Harley's turned metal tanks and the ALL formed rust of some sort quite quickly. Reason they are not available anymore. dans67 09-05-2007, 11:11 PM That looks cool, but regular clear won't stick to bare metal by itself well. I think eastwood sells one that's used on bare metal for wheels and stuff, but I doubt you could do a whole car with that. I think eastwood sells one that's used on bare metal for wheels and stuff, but I doubt you could do a whole car with that. That's stuff I don't know. It looks great , but if it only last a year or so it would'nt be worth the effort . I have some extra tin for my bike and thought that would be a real head turner ! I shoulda tracked the owner down and asked about it , but I did'nt :( tom coop 09-06-2007, 05:12 PM its not gonna last long. its either gonna rust or peel off. if you drive hardly ever and store it in thwe garage and live in cali, maybe itll last. i wouldnt do it to my car but it looks cool bad6772 09-06-2007, 09:41 PM ive also seen alot of people simply spray WD40 on their bare metal. it will also appear to be cleared... i have heard of people spraying ppg 2002 on bare metal and it lasting for a year or so? i dont know if it has any more adheasive or not.....IMO this kinda stuff is getting played out fast just my 0.2 Infanti 09-06-2007, 10:34 PM I know some people do this just to show off their metal working skills and drum up some business.Gets people talking ,and looks cool. Rdrdave 09-21-2007, 12:55 AM It could have been sprayed with a whooooooole lot of Gibbs Brand. That stuff is sweet! I've seen cars last quite some time with that stuff on it. It's under a halibrand website roadsters.com I think. I've never used it, yet, and it's kind of pricey. Good Luck and we shall see. |
