how far back does the gun need to be so the air pressure dosent blow the drops everywhere.

:agree: If there's ANY water you need to get a good filter. I use a canister filter at the wall and a small plastic disposable filter at the gun and it works fine.

I think he may be talking about the custom paint that you use water drops then spray over them like >X< did

oh ... ok ... in that case, you shouldn't be using a "gun" ... you should be using an airbrush ...

Dubies got you lined out.
ALWAYS test the gun psi and distance BEFORE you add paint.
Do a "dry" run with just air first to make SURE you got it figured out.
Nothing worse than spraying paint and water scrambling all over the place.
One member uses a pump up sprayer instead of a squirt bottle and it does do a better job IMO. Kinda like an actual rain.
Fraser adds a little Glycerin to the water which supposedly helps it adhere better.
