Good Afternoon Everyone

My name is Dave Burnham and I live in South Mills, NC. I have a 1972 Chevy C-10 with a 402 in it. The truck has been in my family since it was new. It was my fathers truck. It has been kept in a garage and never was driven in the winter. My father passed away 25 years ago and I have had it for a number of years now.

My question is should I rebuild the motor and transmission? I am not a mechanic and won't pretend to be. It is a very strong motor and the transmission shifts great. I was thinking of a disassembly, open and inspect and then reassemble with new parts. The odometer shows 48828 and I am not sure if it has rolled over or not?

Please give me your advice and be honest. I have a budget of about 7500 and want to spend it wisely. I know it needs a new exhaust and that will obviously be done after the motor work.

Thanks for the help

Dave Burnham

Dave,

Some pictures would help. Is the truck in great shape...or should the motor be moved to a better truck?

You may be better off and your post may a see a lot more light if you post it in the regular forum...this forum is a regional forum and not seen by as many people.

Welcome to the site from West Tennessee. Maybe we can get this moved to GD or 67-72 message board. Stop by the welcome center to get a proper welcome.

Now for the truck, pictures would help as well as all the known information you can come up with. But if it is nice and not beat up it sounds like you have the beginnings of a nice project. Good Luck.

Truck is a 9.5 out of 10. My father was fanatical about the way it was kept. I will post some pictures once I figure that out. Is there a way to repost to the main board?

Wow...if it is that good of shape...get the tranny and engine going...and work out the other stuff that may be worn out...sounds liek a great platform to ge going on.

http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/index.php is the main site for all the forums...scroll down to the "47 - Current classic GM Trucks" section...and choose the forum you think appropriate.

Welcome from Vale, NC. If it was kept up the mileage should not have flipped over. If the truck runs/drives/shifts fine then you should not have to rebuild anything. I have my Grandpa's '72 with 67,xxx miles. It has set for some periods of time on and off but still runs/drives great.
