My buddy Jeff (aka hot trux) wanted me to post a few pics. So here goes,... He's putting a '89-'91 grill in his '85 stepside. Here's a few pics from this weekend. The aluminum radiator will be "sunk" into the core support. All extra holes in the core support will be filled. He has also filled the backside of the front fenders,(all the big square holes),... to make for a smooth look. I'll also include the pic from his avatar. Hope this works!

Very nice! One question... why not a fuel cell instead of the saddle side tank? Preference?

That was the first thought that entered my head as well when I first saw the rolling chassis. With all the shaving that he is doing everywhere else, I never expected to see the tank hanging on the side of the frame! In any case, it is a really sharp looking truck. Can't wait to see what it looks like when completed! Keep us posted. ...Joe

I don't think this was meant to be a "no expense spared" build. This guy is a normal guy,... (like all of us),... with normal bills. This is just a budget build, (if there is such a thing), with ALOT of attention to detail. All work is being done by Jeff (hot trux), with the exception of the upholstery, in a small shop. Including all wiring, mechanical and paint / bodywork. I think the results are amazing. I guess I'm jealous too. I'll post more pics as I get them.

That's a nice build your buddy has going.

Is he planning to share the specs for the stance, drop and wheel size for his 'new' setup'?

lolife99
01-29-2008, 09:24 AM
I'll let hot trux answer on the engine. The wheels are 20x8 and 20x9.5 Billet Specialties Vintec's. The air ride is all from Air Ride Technologies. Cool Ride kit up front and air over leaf in back.

The build has slowed a little. The core support is getting some extra attention. Once the front clip is done,... the wiring will begin. Also the seat and door panels are at the upholstery shop. Hot Trux or I will keep you posted.

lowlife99 can you get me a few things answered ..What headers are those they look like the 3/4 length ones that us low trucks need and also when the rear air ride set up is done can you get some up close pics of it im going the same way and need to have it done by mid june (got a show im trying to make)..thnx..

lolife99
05-11-2008, 04:28 AM
I believe they are Patriot "shorty" headers for the Chevelle application. You can PM hot trux or I can try to get some pictures later. His probably won't be done by June.

lolife99
08-11-2008, 10:04 PM
Ok,... I got a couple pics from Hot Trux tonight so I thought I would share. The idea of making his truck a stepside has been an expensive one. So far,... Jeff purchased two complete beds, one NOS fender (for almost $400), two 1979(?) take off fenders and steps (the red ones, removed in 1979 and stored), one new GM tailgate,... and a couple extra steps found at a local swap meet,... and the bed is finally coming together as "one unit" for mock up prior to paint. . Also purchased was new bed strips and roll pan from Bruce Horkey Wood Products. Original bedsides will be reworked as will the front bed panel from the second bed. Here's a couple of pics. I'll post the bed in paint when it's done.

One of the vertical lines looks to be off by 1/64 of an inch. Get that fixed and it will be perfect.

Lookin' good! I can't wait to see it on the street now... :D

09-02-2008, 07:44 PM
Nate,... it probably won't be on the street for a while. Jeff has been hitting it pretty hard,... but still alot to do. The upholstery should be killer.

Billet Specialties Vintecs. 20x8 (5.25" b.s.) and 20x9.5 (5" b.s.) with 245/40-20 and 295/40-20 BFG KDW's.

A few more pics from my buddy Hot Trux.
Doors are hung with new hardware, gaskets, and outside handles. Front Thorbecke Bros. tubular a-arms are installed. There's just a little more wiring to do before that is finished.
Right now, Jeff is fitting the front inner fenders and modifying them for a custom look. Fenders are painted and Jeff just polished the radiator, so it can be installed.
I forgot to get a picture of all the bolting. It's all chrome plated. (even the door hinge bolts,... and many bolts you won't see.) Most are chrome button head allen bolts.
The detail is incredible.
