I have been wanting to put some form of ventilation in my shop for a few years now but just never wanted to spend the money untill now.
I have done a few paint jobs in my shop and have spent many days color sanding out the dust and paint fallout. So I have some paint jobs lined up over the next few months so I thought it was about time. I ordered an explosion proof belt drive fan that wil pull 4300CFM's and spent the day working on the install. My shop air compresor died yesterday so I needed a project. The fan is mounted up in one of the roof windows in my shop and blows thru a 24" auto vent shutter. The box below the ceiling will house 3 20x30" 3m filters for keeping the dust and paint off the roof abit. I will then have 7 of the same filters in various spots around the booth for a soft flow of clean air into the booth. I call it a booth but it is a 16x24' ceiling with a few real walls around it and plastic for the remainder of them. I also use this space when doing body work, welding and fabrication so the fan set up will help on dust and fumes as well. Here are a few pics of my almost finished set up and my latest project. I need two more sheets of ply to finish up the filter box and it should be good to go. Does anyone else have any home made set up out their. Any thoughts on how this should work or advice on any changes I should make while I'm at it?
