View Full Version : April 2008 TOTM
Palf70Step 03-20-2008, 04:04 AM Truck Of The Month (TOTM) Contest
OK fellow truckies this is the contest you have all been waiting for. This month we will compile and honor those that set the basis for our truckie world. The theme of this month’s TOTM is
No Foolin’, I Drive it!
Yes, this month will be our less than perfect specimens; our beaters, our beasts, our rust-buckets, our TRUCKS. Now here are the rules or criteria for the vehicles
To be an eligible for our less than perfect TOTM:
• Open to all years and models of Trucks, Blazers, Suburbans, Tahoes, Yukons, and Jimmys.
• It must be road worthy and currently legal (or close to it) to be on the road.
• It must have at least three imperfections. This includes things like different color paints (or lack of paint), dents, holes (large and small) or whatever might make someone afraid to go near it for fear of catching some sort of disease ;).
• If a truck has won a TOTM already in 2006 or 2007, you are ineligible. If you were nominated but were not selected as a TOTM winner then you may be nominated and compete in this month's category.
To Nominate:
You or someone else may nominate the vehicle. Just add the nomination to this thread. We will need a picture or two of the nominee vehicle, the owner’s board name, and any of the basics specs (year, engine/drive train specs) you or your nominee wish to provide.
I normally use 1 picture showing a good front view and 1 with a rear view of the vehicles on the voting threads. If the owner has a preferred picture they want used in the contest, please let me know in a PM
Nominees will through March 24. If additional information is needed, I will PM the first 15 nominees to get any additional data or pictures if they have not already been provided. You can PM me for an e-mail address in case anyone has problems resizing the pictures for the board. A Poll Thread will be set up in this board area and an announcement will be posted on the Discussion Boards to notify all of the voting. The Poll will start to run on March 25 and will run until the morning of April 1. The official announcement of the winner will be on the afternoon of April 1. The announcement of this month’s TOTM winner will be posted through the General Discussion Board area.

ETsC10 03-20-2008, 06:46 AM OK, I'll bite...
With a gaggle of these things now, my C-10 is still dearest to my heart.
Having begun as a $240 auction truck 11 years ago, no interior, no
trany, no driveshaft and a half an engine, I have cobbled
her together and we have been inseparable ever since.
The good...
1968 Custom Comfort C-10 LWB
LJ 327 (14 months old)
Turbo 400, 4BBL, Leaf sprung posi
PS, PB, wood bed, tilt
bew brakes and suspension
Krylon paint...it takes 11 cans.
If you don't spray inside the bed :)
The not so good...
Cab is SHOT! Rusted through
from the gutters, down through the
pillers through and past the cab mounts.
Bent frame...A-arm shifts all over the place
keeping the front end shops alive! Tire shops, too.
borrowed fenders (thanks Mark)
borrowed mirror (thanks Mark)
Krylon paint, where it sticks
Ah, well. She's my loyal companion
and DD....bit breasy but I love her.
ETsC10 03-20-2008, 06:51 AM A couple more...

If nothing more than a paint and brake job will get him looking better. More Pics to come!
No Foolin', I drive it! This is HotSix!
I've been working on this for a number of years, but 2 years ago decided to shorten it which made a huge difference in how it looks. I had been collecting clean, straight body panels that I'd see in the jy and finally put them all on after shortening it. Although it didn't get a second look when it was all one ugly Vermillion red, I have people coming up to me all the time now wanting to tell me, "hey, nice truck.":lol:
About the only thing original at this point is the cab and hood. Everything else has either been replaced or modified. It's got a mild rebuild 250 with Edelbrock 500cfm carb, HEI, Clifford intake and dual exhaust, H-pipe, Camaro T-5, H-4 headlights, the modified alternator mod, '77 disc brakes, quick ratio PS, 4/5" drop, white painted tailights for brighter light output, Subaru Outback seats with heat, and a hidden hitch. I'll add the engine pics soon.

But it will still lay down the rubber!!!!
My truck started life as a 70 GMC, looked like a 72 Chevy for a while and is now toting the grill off a 70 Chevy. There is no original sheetmetal on it. The frame, rear end and engine are the only original pieces and I have a tbi motor to go in it and I'm looking for a new rear end. It has serpentine set up, 200-4r tranny and the I upgraded to discs up front with the booster and master cylinder off an 84.
I'll have to take more pics.
Southedisto 03-20-2008, 05:27 PM I nominate mine, original 350, sm465, np205, dana 60 locked with home built hydro assist, 14b detroited and disced, autometer gauges, rattle can paint job, and bedilned interior. It has several over 4 hour road trips, and two over 12 road trips. I love diving it, and wish gas would be cheaper so I could drive it more.
tailgate is still green, rust hole in door bottoms, mismatched dash, rusty rollbar, panel alignment is horrible, overspay on various parts.

Orange 03-20-2008, 06:00 PM fatboys69 wanted to nominate me.
He didn't have pictures, so he e-mailed me and told me to post.
I do drive it every day, as it is my only vehicle. Anywhere I go, it takes me there. Hate days like today...
345695
And there's worse behind what's on that screenshot.
But, it is all one color, so I don't know if I qualify. If you want me to post pictures of the scratches, paint chips, etc. that are really major to a $7k paint job, then I will. There are some.
I don't think I qualify, but, "No Foolin', I drive it!"
Exterior:

I took the rest of my pictures off.
If I do qualify doing to being a DD, I'll put them back up.
Understood if it doesn't.

jchav62 03-20-2008, 06:26 PM Okay...I'll nominate mine... I drive the heck out of it, at least when it's not broken... I think I broke the tranny again this weekend..it won't shift out of first...
:ito::chevy: 1962 c10 shortbed fleetside, 327/th350, backyard paintjob done by my brother and I... it's all one color, holes in the fender where some emblems used to be... paint chips and what not... She's driven!:metal::ito::chevy:
Palf70Step 03-20-2008, 06:43 PM Remember the criteria for being nominated guys.
67ChevyRedneck 03-20-2008, 07:12 PM Yeah, I drive the crap out of mine. Put a good 6K+ on it last year :( Why did I have to make it pretty?

I guess I didn't see the disease part...oh well...
Tim64 03-20-2008, 07:41 PM Okay, I'll nominate my truck. 63' 250ci 3 speed soon to have a 700r4. It is my daily driver, and up here in Ohio that says a lot for the old beast.
Tim
matthufham 03-20-2008, 07:50 PM my bed is a wreck, with peeling paint and holes as the fuel filler gets redesigned. it's been at this state over a year.
my front bumper is pushed in in the middle and the grill needs to be replaced.
my tachometer broke so i ripped it out and put paper in the hole.
others, i'm matt hufham, 17 years old and this is my 72 chevy. has a 350, th350... lots of goods i can list. lowered 4.5, 5 inches on 20 inch wheels.
Revoh 03-20-2008, 08:08 PM Mine's a '63 C10 Fleetside Short Box. 230 I6, 3-speed column. Yeah, it has some "character", but it runs and drives way better than it may appear.
I drive it 50 miles to work quite often. I also throw it in a car show once in awhile with the "Mater Face". My four-year-old gets a kick out of it, and people think it's fun.
The paint, or what's left of it, is mostly original. I painted the grill and bumpers because ther "patina" was not very flattering.

shaneschevys 03-20-2008, 08:36 PM Here is my 69 panel. It took over as my DD when I blew the engine in my 72. It is pretty much all origional minus interior, engine & trans.
killthewabbit 03-20-2008, 11:39 PM Okey dokey.
Here's my 78 short step 2WD. Driven to work everyday 35 miles each way. I say that so often, I may as well put it in my signature.

Tonka59 03-21-2008, 02:58 AM Here is my beast. 72 K20 LWB with a 4" lift and 36" hummer tires. Had three fuel tanks when I bought the thing, removed two of the tanks so there is a hole in each side of the bed where the tanks were. Not afraid of a few scratches in my primer paint job.
generalee 03-21-2008, 03:10 AM i think mine is worthy of placement in this prestigious contest
mine is a 1982 LWB 2WD c10.

what you dont see are the large rips in the seat or that the speedometer has gone partway bonkers. and, i'm almost ashamed to admit it, the ford 302 under the hood. you also don't see the numerous dents on top of the bedrail and bedside, along with the inside of the bed that look like they were made by a crazed 4yearold and his sledge-hammer. the headliner is also gone and the padding that was left is all but non-existent. it's my daily driver, when it works.
and her name... her name is Betsy. she has character to spare
LonghornJeff 03-21-2008, 06:11 AM Ok ...Now staring in the I drive it contest.

bobbo 03-21-2008, 03:15 PM Here's my 69, will be running and driven this weekend! :) LOTS of holes from the body trim and rust on the driver rocker and driver floor pan and no tailgate.
ProStreet83C10 03-21-2008, 09:22 PM i got some pics of my truck. Driven it over 25k miles in the last few years. I has a nice dent/crease where someone backed into me and then drove away on the drivers rear part of front fender before the door. I have numerous scratches on it from being used as a truck as well as people keying it. Someone last year sliced open the back part of my tonneau cover where it stitches into the molding to pop it in place. I also have my passenger cab corner rusting out but im trying to keep that as subtle as i can. My dash pad is cracked and has holes where the stock speakers were and doesnt match the interior. Im sure i missing some other small stuff as well. Heres some pics.

88JRFAN 03-22-2008, 05:35 AM I'd like to nominate my 72 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4. As you can see the cab is the only original part of the body(other than frame). Cab is well beat up, rust in usual spots( rockers, corners, cab supports, holes for antenna's). Bed floor is straight other than the dent from my gooseneck trailer. Buddy built the boom that's in the back, hooks into our fifth wheel hitch bows and rests on a receiver hitch(for now). We either use my ramsey 8000 lb winch mounted on a receiver slide-in frame or his is mounted in his bed( Works great for loading logs). Has a slite lift, probably about 2 inchees so far. 327 chevy, sm465-205, dana 44 front, eaton ho52 rear with 410 gears. Thanks Daren

Jeff
So, you should be able to count on, what a couple of weeks?
:lol::lol:
Generallee, I hate to be the one to point this out, but you might want to have somebody take a look at the foundation under your house...
zombiescustoms 03-23-2008, 03:59 AM Here is mine, bought it a little over a month ago bone stock, put ebay wheels on it removed the running boards tinted the windows, lowered it. it has dents in both doors from the big towing mirrors, and the tailgate, some rust bubbles on the left rear rocker. I spray bombed the areas where the paint was peeling on the roof and then wet sanded and buffed it. not to bad for a $2000 tow rig that seats 9!!

generalee 03-23-2008, 07:42 PM tynee: thanks for the heads up. but that's the house of the people who owned the truck before i did. they're family friends and my truck has been with them since it was new in 82. i'll let them know.
danielwetpaint 03-24-2008, 05:31 PM This is my ole beater Terdhed. It's an 86 lwb with a motor puller reversed and mounted thru the factory bed bolts. This darlin is powered by the og 305/turbo 350 with 89K.I've lifted and moved everything imaginable.I've installed and removed engines, landscaping rocks, reposessed a toyota truck, etc. The '85 swb truck behind it I've had for over 10 years. It's a frame off, new suspension, hand made stuff, rollpan, smoothed firewall, etc. Oh yeah!the tires on the 86 lwb are those Firestone AT's that were in the news a few years back that were seperating and killing folks.
kenm78 03-24-2008, 07:03 PM Well, I will throw mine in the hat.
1971 Chevy C10
385 SBC, TH350
It has a hint of gray, red, maroon, and white.
Dents on the front left corner of grille, A little bit of BONDO on the tailgat under the gray and I have Nissan floor mats whoo hoooo (nope they didn't help my gas mileage)...
67_C-30 03-25-2008, 07:01 AM Add my '67 C-30 dually pickup to the list! Its different colors, has some cancer, needs finishing, and smells funny, but I drive it and work it all the time. It most definitely falls under the BEAST category!
msgross 03-26-2008, 12:44 AM i don't think shiny paint should be allowed!
dieselarmy13 03-26-2008, 03:34 AM Gotta throw Baby Blue (or Black Betty or The Green Turd, depending on which body panel your looking at) on here. She's got a 350 (?), SM465, one-wheel-wonder rearend of an unknown ratio, and leaf-spring rear. I included pics of both interiors since I just disposed of the PO-installed sweet-ass 80's van seats and wooden center council. As soon as gas hits $2/gallon, she's gonna be my daily!

dieselarmy13 03-26-2008, 04:33 AM I was deployed when the guy delivered my truck, but my parents said he was REAL proud of that console! It was one of the finer things he 'custom made' for baby. Thank god for Randy (teeitup) for coming through with that bench for me!
samwise68 03-26-2008, 05:24 AM Well, I suppose...since this is a contest I fit in to...
1969 GMC C1500.
307, 3 on the tree, 3.07's.
