Hey guys I recently completed the front suspension rebuild. In the process I converted to disc brakes and replaced all suspension parts. I wanted to forward you guys the part numbers just in case it might help someone on the forum. I bought all the parts from the local O’Reilly Auto Parts so you could even order parts online though them. I bought drop spindles and springs through Mike’s Bump and Grind Garage in Webster, TX, he has a website.

Here are the parts and part numbers I used for the conversion:

2 ½ inch drop McGaughy Spindles
1 inch drop McGaughy Springs

New front suspension parts:

Pitman arm K6131 39.99
Idler arm K6096 15.99
Ball joint (2) K6024 14.39 each 28.78 pair
Ball joint (2) K6023 12.47 each 24.94 pair
Tie rod end (2) ES370R 11.51 each 23.02 pair
Tie rod end (2) ES350L 11.51 each 23.02 pair
Control arm shaft (2) K6098 28.79 each 57.58 pair
Control arm shaft (2) K6147 33.59 each 67.18 pair
*** I used the low-end house brand, but all of them had grease fittings. I was told by the employee, sometimes the same part numbers of the low-end parts will or will not have the fittings, and might be slightly different in appearance. So, if you choose to go low-end, I would suggest buying from the store not online. Check each part to make sure they match, (Ex: ball joints, tie rod ends) and have the grease fittings.*** I did not buy sleeves from either place. I also returned the outer tie rod ends and went with newer model ones because of the sleeves I ordered from CPP. I did have to drill out the hole on the spindle for the tie rod end.***

*** verify bearing part numbers before you buy. I remember I had an issue with the inner, but I think it might have just been the kid working there gave me the wrong one but had charged me for the correct one.***

Looks like a good investment in safety.... How did you enlarge the tapered hole in the spindle arm? I hope you didn't drill a straight hole in it.....:o

What year truck did you install the parts on? McGaughy sells spindles for 63-70 trucks and the 71-72 trucks. I thought the difference between the two of these was smaller tie rod ends and ball joints for the 63-70 and bigger for the 71-72. Are the newer model parts you bought even bigger than those?

Also, what size rotors did you go with? Are the calipers single or dual piston?

I bought the spindles for 63-70. The tie rod ends I used were 73 newer, I think.

I used the stock, 71-72, calipers. They are single piston and the roters are the stock 71-72, 1.25 inch.

Will the 71 spindles work on a 68?

71-72 Spindles will work if you change the ball joints and tie rod ends. WES

tehy are 5 lug. GM swapped to 5 lug when they went to disk brakes

The lady just quoted me $95 for the pitman arm and you got it for $39 then the rotors were $75 opposed to your $29.

I wish we had Oreilly out here in CA...

DrtyJack, check Oreilly auto parts online. Prices are going to be a little higher but not much. Have them shipped to your door. Compare prices that way, I'd be curious to know the difference.

If you need me to check into picking the parts up here and shipping them to you I might be able to do that, but parts plus shipping might even out with the online pricing.

Shockingly AutoZone has been doing a great job of getting me vintage chevy parts lately. Not only are their prices pretty much in line with O' Reilly but they have the Autozone card club and every time you spend $20 or more in one purchase you get a point. After you get 5 points they send you a $20 gift card. So basically you get everything 20% off as long as you spend $20 each time you go.

That's awesome. Since I've bought so much at O'Reilly's they give me shop price. It's helped a lot.

NAPA is typically higher but the quality of hard parts is better. NAPA's business model is almost like a franchise, they are independently owned parts houses, however NAPA supplies the inventory. Always ask for a discount if you are buying several parts, they have the leeway to adjust pricing. Autohell is hard to beat on their warranties, and with locations all over the US it comes in handy when you are stuck on the side of the road. As much as I can though, I will always do business with the little man.
