LOL ya, those diff covers were fun to do :) I did a give-a-way on another truck site that I'm on and the guy who won wasn't sure what he wanted to do. So just for the hell of it, he wanted his diff covers done in pink. His truck is an army green trail rig, so they're going to stand out pretty well lol.
Shane 08-03-2008, 04:50 PM how well does the ceramic coating hold up on brake components?
Almighty Wez 08-03-2008, 08:02 PM The black gloss ceramic we mainly use is good to 2000deg. So on calipers or rotor hats it would be more then enough. If you mean brake components like the rotor itself, its definetely not ment to be applied there.

You can do transparent/candy colors over the silver vein. Here's a VC I did awhile back w/ candy red over silver vein:

http://www.jnzfinishing.com/uploads/gallery/full/IMG_1305.jpg
Since the base coat is darker, it makes the candy darker as well but that's about as bright as it would get with red. I've also done candy green and blue over vein, gives a nice effect.

Ya pretty much  They like to be flashy and make a statement I guess. As a long time import guy myself, I can't say I'm too happy with it but to each their own. I never really understood the appeal of drifting anyway.

jlaird 01-01-2009, 09:20 AM What is the process for coating exhaust tubes? Do you do multiple layers or is it a one shot deal? If I wanted the wrinkle black for example?
Almighty Wez 01-01-2009, 10:57 AM What is the process for coating exhaust tubes? Do you do multiple layers or is it a one shot deal? If I wanted the wrinkle black for example?
Regular powder, like the wrinkle black, is only good to about 450 degrees before it starts to fade and get brittle. You need the hi-temp powder for exhaust pieces, its good to 1200deg. There is a Muffler Black powder that has a slight wrinkle finish to it, that's probably your best bet and that's a one shot process.

Almighty Wez 01-08-2009, 05:47 PM Would regular powder coat work on upper steel radiator hose?
Yup, not a problem. Regular powder is good up to 450deg.

thirdstreettito 02-07-2009, 06:40 PM Can you do a durability test for us? Like coat a few useless pieces. Then drag them on concrete, scratch them with a razor blade, etc. Basically because most of us probably dont know how durable it actually is.

Sure I can do something this week and post it up. Powder coating is much more durable then regular paint, simply because its much thicker. Most times I tell people that want parts done that will see rocks and things, is to use an ACRYLIC clear coat. Its very strong and will keep the finish looking the way it should much longer.
chevyrestoguy 02-08-2009, 01:11 PM You are a true artist. I really like the multiple colors (like the black Mitsu valve covers with the red logo). There's a few powdercoating shops out here that need to look at what you're doing. They are stuck in the '80s, for sure.
I LOVE the soft nickel!!

Thanks I appreciate the complement :chevy: Soft Nickel is a nice color for sure, very understated.
jorgensensc 02-09-2009, 05:27 PM I have a few silly questions for you.If you powdercoat something on one side, and then bake it. can you then go back and powdercoat the other side and bake it again? Will the rebaking damage the other powdercoating job?
I'm asking because I'm kicking around an idea. I have read that you could powdercoat a vehicle as long as the only thing left on it is all metal. I think I understand that body filler cannot be used for the bodywork, but can all metal or metal lab? What can you use for a primer type paint, or would you have to make sure the body is perfect and powdercoat on bare metal? Could you jamb out the inside of a truck or blazer and then hang all the doors, fenders, etc, bake, and then paint the exterior and rebake? Sounds a little crazy I know, but I am trying to think outside the box. Thanks for the info!
Shawn

The red frame is for a Banshee that we're coating pretty much every part that can be coated in either the red or black starlight, chrome, silver or wrinkle black. Should really be nice when its done w/ black plastics.
