View Full Version : Final Count - Midwest All Truck Nats - Sept 5-7 Riverside, MO
72BlckButy 08-07-2008, 07:05 AM Okay guys, we are down to less than a month for the start of one of the best Midwest truck shows I've attended. We have another thread (here (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=294744)) that was started by Iveldesigns trying to stir up some support for the show.
I'm going to get in contact with Gaileen when it gets a little closer to the show, so we can try and get an area set aside for the 67-72 Board participants. I would like to be able to give her an overall number for those participating in the event. Please bring chairs, and whatever else you will need to make it a great day!
When posting that you will be participating, please include the number of vehicles that will be entered into the show.
From previous pm's, GRIMSS and I are planning on bringing some canopy tents. I can't recall how many GRIMSS said he had, but we have one tent that I know of. In previous years they have had food vendors so I don't see a need for grills/food, other than snacks for the day. Definitely bring some coolers filled with your favorite cool beverage, and since this is benefiting Toys for Tots and several other local childrens charities, I doubt alcoholic beverages will be allowed on site.
The entry fee is set at $25. (Pre-entries must be received by 8/27 and will receive a free t-shirt)
Here is a tentative schedule for the show:
Friday
6:00PM-8:00PM - Welcome Cruise and Concert - All Vehicles welcome!!
Saturday
8:00-2:00 - Registration
10:00-4:00 - Judging*
10:00 - Model contest opens
12:00 - High/Low Contest
1:00 - Loud Exhaust Contest (Approximate start time depending on participation in previous event)
2:00 - Burn Out Contest (Approximate start time depending on participation in previous event)
5:00 - Line up to Cruise to Chux Trux North Store Cruise night.
*Judging will only be on Saturday this year.
Sunday
8:00-11:00 - Registration
8:30 - Sunrise Church Service
12:00 - More Burnouts - Exibition only
2:00 - Auction @ Amphitheater
3:00 - Awards

I hope we will have a great turn out at the show, and I can't wait to meet some more great board members!
Keep safe and keep on truckin'!
72BlckButy 08-07-2008, 07:06 AM My FIL and I will be attending, and will have at least one vehicle entered into the show. Sadly enough I doubt it will be the '72, but I bet a few members will be surprised to see what I will be entering... :D
bobbo 08-07-2008, 07:17 AM I will be there with my 69 and wife. :)
tcb-1 08-07-2008, 11:46 AM I'll definitely be there with my '69. Hope I can get my brother, bigdon-70blazer, will be there with me.
LockDoc 08-07-2008, 10:19 PM -
Unless something major happens the wife and I will be there with the White Truck....
LockDoc
420am 08-07-2008, 11:00 PM I'll be there (spectating and socializing) with my '72 Cheyenne unless I tear into something and don't get it back together in time.. which is doubtful.
ksjh1316 08-10-2008, 04:29 PM Looks like I will be coming in my car as the truck will be no where close at that time
IvelDesigns 08-10-2008, 04:32 PM i'll be there with my wife and kids. I'll be bringing the truck as well.
kyull67 08-12-2008, 11:22 AM I'll be there, probably won't enter my truck but I'll show up on Saturday at least.
72BlckButy 08-13-2008, 01:06 PM One thing I forgot to ask was if anyone is going to pre-register for the show. If you pre-register, there's no price reduction, but you do receive a free show t-shirt.
For more info on the show registration check out this link (http://www.alltrucknats.com/registration.htm)...
88JRFAN 08-13-2008, 11:21 PM Should be able to make it on saturday. Won't have the truck, but will come and see all the nice trucks. Is the swap meet decent size?
bobbo 08-14-2008, 06:23 AM I'll be there, probably won't enter my truck but I'll show up on Saturday at least.
You're not bringing the truck?
tcb-1 08-14-2008, 06:42 AM have we a banner/sign for 67-72chevytrucks.com that we could display with our trucks?
if not, should we?
and I'm with Bobbo. Kyle, your not bringing that niiiiice truck of yours?!!!
IvelDesigns 08-14-2008, 08:16 AM it would cost me, but we have a poster printer at work. I could print up a 3' x 4' poster and mount it on some foam board.
just need to get the 67-72 logo from Liz
kyull67 08-14-2008, 10:47 AM I'll bring my truck.
tcb-1 08-14-2008, 11:52 AM it would cost me, but we have a poster printer at work. I could print up a 3' x 4' poster and mount it on some foam board.
just need to get the 67-72 logo from Liz
how much you think we could get one produced for? I'd be willing to help cover the costs. heck, I'd like to have one to hang in the garage!!
IvelDesigns 08-14-2008, 12:31 PM i PM'ed liz to see if she can send me the eps file. if i can get it, i'll get one of the creative people here at work to put something together and print it.
i'm not worried about the cost of printing. some times i've been charged, sometimes it's free.
72BlckButy 08-14-2008, 01:23 PM Ivel/tcb-1, I had checked with a local business to see how much it would cost to get a 6X2 vinyl banner printed and it was going to run $80+. I wanted to try and get something made up, but I ran out of time.
72BlckButy 08-14-2008, 01:58 PM Okay from the responses I have received....
Participating:
72blckbuty (pre-registering)
Iveldesigns (pre-registering)
bobbo (pre-registering) arriving Friday afternoon
LockDoc (planning on pre-registering)
Spectating:
420am
72BlckButy 08-14-2008, 02:00 PM FYI:
The $25 entry fee is not actually associated with the show/judging. The Chevy/GMC Truck Club of KC actually donates all the money it collects (minus a few show expenses) to local charities. Last year alone they were able to donate $8,000+ in items to local charities. Throughout the show they do give door prizes away to the contestants, and have a trophy giveaway as well.
IvelDesigns 08-14-2008, 04:36 PM put me down for arriving friday night. did we ever figure out what camp ground people were using?
chipflyer 08-14-2008, 05:57 PM Got the bed all tore up on my beater, adding a new oak floor but should have it finished and ready to make the trip down to Riverside. Really looking froward to this one.
Jeff
72BlckButy 08-14-2008, 08:17 PM I haven't heard much more about camping, but I think people were leaning towards camping at Smithville Lake, it's roughly 20 miles from Riverside.
72BlckButy 08-14-2008, 08:18 PM Got the bed all tore up on my beater, adding a new oak floor but should have it finished and ready to make the trip down to Riverside. Really looking froward to this one.
Jeff
Glad to have you aboard Jeff! Hope you can get her back together so we can take a closer look at your project.
tcb-1 08-14-2008, 08:23 PM Nate,
I may camp, but not 100% yet. If not, I'll definitely meet evryone there Saturday morning.
oh yeah, I'm going to pre-register as well.......
72BlckButy 08-14-2008, 08:33 PM URGENT Question.....
For those that have pre-registered.... are you able to submit your payment online, or are you still required to mail in the payment??? This is one thing I forgot to ask Gaileen when I was on the phone with her this afternoon, and will help me decide how long I can wait to submit my entry.
72BlckButy 08-14-2008, 08:35 PM Nate,
I may camp, but not 100% yet. If not, I'll definitely meet evryone there Saturday morning.
oh yeah, I'm going to pre-register as well.......
Glad to hear it Doug! Are you going to stay at Smithville Lake if you decide to camp?
Is anyone staying at the local hotel? Or hotel w/ show discount?
72BlckButy 08-14-2008, 09:13 PM If anyone has any questions about the show, or if you want a number for help incase you run into any trouble on the way down to the show, pm me and I will provide my cell along with is2blu's (I have received her consent).
bobbo 08-15-2008, 06:41 AM I am interested in hotels as well. Where will everyone be staying?
GRIMSS 08-15-2008, 06:51 AM I'm planning on being there sat.
IvelDesigns 08-15-2008, 09:54 AM PM me if you plan to camp. If not many people are gonna camp, I may stay in a local hotel. Need to talk with the wife first though.

Has anyone registered online???
72BlckButy 08-15-2008, 02:48 PM Gaileen was able to provide a reponse to my question(s) above....
For those planning on registering on-line, you will still have to mail in your entry fee. For pre-registering they need to receive your payment by 8/27.
piecesparts 08-15-2008, 08:15 PM There is a good selection of Motels in the area. Right across the road from the park is a "Super 8" motel (phone 816-505-2888) (800 Argosy PKWY--Riverside, MO), then in the small hamlet of North Kansas City, there is the American Inn (phone 816-471-3451) (it is close to the 35 HWY exit of Armor Road). there are also a couple more in North K.C. close to 35 HWY, as well as th eArgosy Casino and hotel.
72BlckButy 08-16-2008, 09:48 PM I'm planning on being there sat.
Glad to see you post GRIMSS! I was beginning to wonder if something was going to keep you away from the show. Are you still planning on bringing a canopy tent? I have one on the list, along with some chairs and a cooler.
I wasn't able to get a sign pulled together, so I was going to try and just print out some logos and have them laminated. I got a quote from some of the local shops and they were $80+, so needless to say that it will be in the distant future before I'm able to pull that one together.
it would cost me, but we have a poster printer at work. I could print up a 3' x 4' poster and mount it on some foam board.
just need to get the 67-72 logo from Liz
Hey Ivel, any word on the logo from Liz? If you could forward it to me I might be able to work a little magic and pull something together.
GRIMSS 08-17-2008, 07:34 AM yep i've got 2 eazyup style.
IvelDesigns 08-17-2008, 09:01 PM ok, i talked to the wife and we're gonna get a hotel. probably motel 6 or super 8.
nothing from liz yet.
any word on the pre-reg? is it all online? I'd like to get it taken care of in the next day or two.
72BlckButy 08-18-2008, 12:20 PM You can register on line, but you still need to mail in your registration fee. I think we're leaning towards a hotel as well, but won't know for sure until closer to the show.
72BlckButy 08-19-2008, 05:16 PM bump...
LockDoc 08-19-2008, 10:35 PM -
I just put my Reg. paperwork in an envelope and will mail it out in the morning. You need to go to the Nat's web site and fill out & print the registration application, then sign it and mail it in with the $25 reg. fee. I called the American Inn Motel (the listed host motel) and the lady said I didn't need to get a reservation ahead of time because the Nats has a block of rooms reserved. The cost there will be $54 plus tax. (says it should be $57.56 total). I checked on the Super 8 Motel and it got bad reviews...

I found I have a leaking rear axle bearing seal so I need to get that fixed in the next couple of days. Other than that I think I'm ready to go.... I plan on leaving home Friday morning and heading back home Sat. evening.... We'll see how it goes.
LockDoc
IvelDesigns 08-19-2008, 11:47 PM great. @ $54, i'll be staying there too.

72BlckButy 08-23-2008, 09:57 AM Well.... I got it in the mail a few days later than I had planned, but my registration is on the way. I dropped it in the mail this morning.

piecesparts 08-23-2008, 08:53 PM Glad to hear you guys are going to make it. Look for you there.
72BlckButy 08-24-2008, 08:59 PM This year I will try to catch up with you and get a better shot of your truck than just the motor...
piecesparts 08-24-2008, 10:01 PM It appears that my work buddy will be able to make it with his 71 Chevy. It is the blue and silver one that made it to the Custom Classic Trucks cover a few years ago.
tcb-1 08-24-2008, 10:10 PM It'll be nice seeing ya, piecesparts!
wugunguy 08-25-2008, 09:25 PM I'm in-my registration is in the mail-hopefully it'll get there in time. I'll be coming in my 1972 Chevy Blazer.

Well, I got the rear seals replaced with no problems so I'm good to go.
I thought I would get a confirmation on my pre-registration but I haven't heard anything on it yet.
See y'all there... Look for a white '67 short bed with Iowa Firefighter plates and a primered tailgate....:)
LockDoc
tcb-1 08-27-2008, 08:32 PM preregistered here as well. sent it yesterday, should have got it today.
Nate/Ivel, did we get a banner?
Since I'm a local, I plan on getting there early. look for the beat up green swb stepside, complete with haybales (ooops, let that secret out....)
Hope to see a good 67-72chevytrucks.com turnout. We're going to have a good time!! It'd be nice to get the "most club members" trophy..... Josh can proudly display it over the mantel......
Bobbo, I still owe you lunch or dinner!!
bobbo 08-28-2008, 06:49 AM Might have to do something while we're up there. :) Always up for a good free meal! Look forward to seeing you all and meeting ya! Hoping to get the driveshaft fixed before then otherwise I can only do 55 and that will take a bit longer. :)

I received my registration last night, #52!
Really looking forward to have a good time.
72BlckButy 08-29-2008, 07:36 AM Okay guys, I have been in contact with the show committee and have found out where we will be located. In the map below we will be some where in the area marked "Large Groups." The large area directly across from the word "Large" is where the rest of the show will be located. The area below the work "Groups" is a black stop parking lot where the "high/low," "loud exhaust," and "burnout" contests will be located.

I haven't determined when we will leave for the show, but the we usually headed that way early Saturday morning. We will try and be there between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning. If someone else is there by that time, please head to that part of the show and acquire our spot. According to Steve (show chairman), currently there is 5 other clubs participating with the show. Be sure to drag all local board members and truck to the show, we need something to make Josh proud!!! :D
I hope that everyone can still make it, and has a safe trip. If you would like, we can make an emergency call list for the show. Let me know what you think!
chipflyer 08-29-2008, 08:28 AM I am not pre-registered but I plan to get there by 9:00. I will migrate toward that area.
Jeff

IvelDesigns 08-29-2008, 12:08 PM waiting to hear back from josh/liz on the logo. if i can get it by next thursday, i can still print and mount it.
I am going to register at the show, but am planning to leave fri evening, stay at the hotel, then be at the show by 8 if not sooner. I'll be there all weekend.
wugunguy 08-29-2008, 10:09 PM how did you guys hear about your pre-registration #s--phone, email?
tcb-1 08-29-2008, 10:13 PM curious here as well. I sent mine in Monday, but have'nt heard anything back yet.......
how did you guys hear about your pre-registration #s--phone, email?
LockDoc 08-31-2008, 08:00 AM -
Got a letter in the mail for mine....
LockDoc
piecesparts 08-31-2008, 08:15 AM On pre registered #s, if we have not returned a number or info back to you, it may be because there are many things going on. I would say that if nothing else, then give Gaileen or Steve (Mongo) a call and check. The closer we get to the show the more hairy the things happen. We do not want to leave anyone out.

Less than a week to go... :D
Hey, guys. planning on going sat am. do you have to pre-register? Is this all for judging? don't really care for that as much as meeting and seeing other trucks. but if you have to be judged to park together so be it. First time to join a get together, can't wait. Curious about hotel stay and truck in parking lot? Any concerns? Can also bring tent awing if needed. Can get approx 2 by 8 bannerif wanted. no logo just writing. Might have pop vender logo but the price is right. Let me know. Can do more if needed, will have wife to keep me in-line. Gary
tcb-1 08-31-2008, 09:02 PM does anyone have an idea on how early we can start showing up on Saturday? I'd like to get there early to start saving spaces......

The show will open to the participants at 8:00 AM on Saturday. We, the club members, are going to be there about an hour to hour and a half earlier, so that we can set up registration, hospitality, and the judging program. If you are coming to set up in the area set aside for the different large groups (Under the truck web group), I imagine that you will have a chance to get in there at the 8:00 AM time.

Gary:
You don't have to be judged, It is "Drive Through judging", and you can choose to go to the line or not, however, we would like you to come and help us out. That little red truck of yours needs to be judged---it is to awesome to just sit in the weeds. Either that, or just let me buy it next time I offer.
You know who I am--Pearl white 91 Silverado and 84 Black GMC from Lebo. I would not steer you wrong.
Now for Hotels stay---the "American Inn (In North Kansas City---About 5 or 6 miles down the road ) is running some special rates for the show participants. I have stayed there a couple years--it is OK---I stayed at the Super 8 across from the Argosy Casino (which is just about a 1/2 mile down the street from the park), last year and it is quiet, clean and I had no issue with them. That is where I am this year, also.
If ANYONE wants to leave their truck at the show area overnight, we will have a security guard ON DUTY there for the full night and the park gates are closed from about 10:00 PM on.
Attached picture is from last year's show---something to think about.
Frank
jeffspower 08-31-2008, 10:17 PM Frank, thanks for answering Gary's question. While my truck is a decent 20 footer, I'd feel stupid going thru with judging. So as long as I can keep my hood closed to hide an engine that hasn't been touched in 12 years, I'll show up on Saturday. I don't know if I will stay for Sunday though.

I am here to tell you that a decent 20 footer is nothing to cry about--do you drive it, do you like it, then show everybody your truck. I have been helping with the judging for the last few years and there is always something great about each and every truck, I get a chance to see. I have seen some rough lookers go through the line, it is not for a trophy but the chance for us to look and talk to you about what you like. I won't get a lot of chances to get out and around the show on Saturday, because of the judging, but you can come see me and my judge droogies any time--bring the truck on over. By the way---we are one of the biggest TRUCK cruise-Ins in the area. Those other guys always include those things called cars and that ruins the whole effect---Don't you think...
If I am going to drive 100 miles to be a judge, at least you guys can do is bring them up to be judged.
If it hasn't been touched in 12 years--Don't you think you should change the oil before coming to the show???? LOL
jeffspower 08-31-2008, 10:49 PM It got fresh Valvoline last May, and a new air filter 2 weeks ago
It's up to the task of any length of drive, but "detailed engine" doesn't fit the description!
OK, you have convinced me. Count on me & my son Saturday morning.

"Detailed" ???? Does the belt do a belting thing, does the carb do a carbing thing, does the dizzy get dizzier, and do you have to push it like a old farm tractor to get it running? YES? NO? Hopefully it will give you a trouble free weekend. Welcome to the Truckapalooza at the Park.

Jeff I'm glad to hear that you decided to bring your truck down. If I could get my '72 there this weekend, I wouldn't hesitate in having my truck judged. It's all about enjoying the show and besides you have to start somewhere.

Glad to hear you will be attending the show. I will try to see if I can get a banner donated by the local soda company and maybe hand write the board's name on it. If you already have one that would be sweet. Can't wait to meet you this weekend.
Keep safe and keep on truckin'!

piecesparts 09-01-2008, 09:40 PM Super 8 Motel--- It depends on what you are and HOW OLD you are for rates. The wife and I belong to AAA (That is triple A--- not alcholics anonomous association for the true diehard) and we are aged. We got our room for around $78.00 this year. The cost is a little higher than the American Inn, but it is so dang close to the show it is just a CRYING SHAME. You could walk to the park and leave your truck at the show grounds. The prices appear to start around $70.00 and then it goes up depending on what size bed you get and how many people. I like the quiet of the Super 8 area compared to the other one, not to mention I can hear my alarm system if needed---don't see a need, but one never knows.
You have the 86 Red Bowtie as a Spectator---since he is the son---odds are he will help the club as needed, at the show and take pictures for posting later.
You guys are gathering into a pretty fair sized group. It is good to see that many interested. I would join you , if I didn't have the show commitment.
By the way Jeff---if you get it judged --- just let us know ahead of time if your ego needs stroked and we will lie to you and tell you it is the greatest thing in the world---anything to make the customer happy. Remember if you drove it--IT is great and no one can take that away from you. My 68 is still in pieces all over the garage and will be that wat for quite some time---I will have to suffer along with the 84 for awhile.
