Hi, Are these a good way to strip the sheet metal down to bare metal?
I tried a small area on my door and it worked very fast. Any reason not to use them to strip everything?

Ive been using them for smaller stuff, mainly removing the paint on the firewall, but I have to say its not the most cost effective way to do it. At about $5 a disc/pad or whatever you want to call it, it will add up fast.

Just so we are on the same page, we are talking about those rubber like disc things. Like a funnel cake of rubber with a piece that gets screwed into a chuck of a drill or air tool. Correct???

They do work very well and don't harm the metal, but can get expensive if you need to do large areas. If you are working around edges they will wear down even faster.

I am using the norton strip disks on a 7 inch grinder. I am very happy with them and yes it takes a little time but doesn't make the mess the chemical strippers do. I have gone thru one to do the entire cab and about a half of one on the inside and outside of my bed.

I use 7 inch 80 grit sanding disks mounted on my cheap Craftsman sander/polisher. Got a pack of like 100+ for 15 bucks on e-bay. Cut pretty fast, they dont heat the metal much, and my wallet doesnt get hot everytime I throw one away.

They work great to get rid of surface rust, I have been using them a lot lately. They are the ticket for cleaning up cab floors. They seem to chew through paint pretty good though they will get pretty hot if you don't keep the speed down and keep them moving. A variable speed buffer/grinder is handy. I do go back over the surface with 80 grit to prep for epoxy.
