I'm going to paint my block today. I want it to match the rest of the truck, so that eliminates the option of using hi temp. paint in spray cans. What kind of paint will hold up to the heat the best? I'll be spraying it with a spray gun.

Most paint suppliers can probably make a hi temp engine paint whatever color you want. There is a place locally here that does it for all the hot rods in town.

regular automotive paint will work. Been talked about here several times. Just clean the block good

How do you "make" automotive paint high temp? I'm not understanding what they put in it to make it high temp. I think you got gigged by someone telling you "this will make it high temp". I've painted for 20 years (started when I was 16) and have never seen any additive that makes it high temp. Boyd (rest in peace), Foose, Rad Rides by Troy, and 99% of all car/hotrod builders use regular ole car paint. Several people here have done it too. Just use what ever color you paint the truck with and paint the motor.

I have no idea how hi temp paint is made. But from what i was told, the stuff we got will hold up better to engine heat. It does seem to be doing the job though!

Dont get me wrong! I'm not telling you you don't know what your talking about. I dont want to come off sounding like a dick. If they can custom mix high temp paint to match your vehicle, that's great. It would probably be a cheaper alternative. But if you dont have a place that can do it, just know, any quality brand automotive paint will work. Hell, you can even candy or flake a block too.

The paint supply place in town here can custom mix hi temp paint to match any color. They said regular paint would be just fine. Next time I go by there I'll ask what makes it hi temp.

Most bc/cc systems can handle up to 650-700 degrees on its own. I have never heard of a "high temp" additive either!
I have painted several blocks with bc/cc and they hold up great.
