I admit,I`m just a 60-66 wannabee.I`ve had a couple and I`ll get another or three someday.I do have a few little customized Hot Wheels`62s.
I did these two paint jobs to be more like how I`d want one (with vintage wheels):

nice, the hot wheels grafix let a bit to be desired, but I can't wait to see what they do for limiteds starting in '09.
people have been repainting them, and selling them on ebay almost since they came out, which shows me that HW probably should have done something different on the paint for the fe.
so far I have 2 shades of red , a blue, and a black one .
I need to jump on this repaint bandwagon , yours look good!

These I bought off of Ebay. Most are bonded back together.I don`t think I can get those back apart to do any painting. This one isn`t.It`s got RealRiders on rims that look like polished Centerlines.I`ll do something with the paint.Either stay "stocker" or....?
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z27/Clearwater/Sharing%20Shots/035e_1.jpg

This one`s set up with pro-street style RealRiders. This one will keep the graphic paint job:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z27/Clearwater/Sharing%20Shots/19b2_1-1.jpg

And,my`62 K10.That`s the other shade and it will stay.I`d like to build some of these with factory looking paint:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z27/Clearwater/Sharing%20Shots/IMG_0784.jpg

I just got this one with the newest paint in black. It has had RealRiders added, too.

I like the green one.It has fawn interior and a white grille. The beds and interiors come in chrome.I painted the beds to match and the Sandlewood truck has a black (custom) interior with black exhaust tips.I want to make tonneau covers for some of them and maybe paint the top pillar trim silver.I wish I knew how to do trim on the side.

You guys have some sweet HotWheels. I have one of each of the four colors and a spare red one that I plan on painting to match my truck. I hope mine turns out as good as the ones I see here!

It`s easy.I just drill out the rivets and dunk the whole body in stripper while I`m toolin`around.I like those fill cups that come with laundry detergent. After forgetting and remembering a long time later (my precision system) I just hose it off.

I`m not sure I`d be able to do that foil or photo-etch.

I`m not sure I`d be able to do that foil.

Its easy to cut with a sharp X-acto and a metal straight edge.
Has to be a new blade or it will bunch up. (use a #16, not a #11)
It is pretty fragile until applied, so a bit of trial and error experience.
End result is awesome, next you will be foiling a whole truck. ;)

Maybe a salvaged front bumper would look good on those trucks too.

You know... The green one is a pretty close match to my truck as is. What paint did you use on it? Was it a store bought paint or something you created?

thanks

Here is my collection. Nothing custom but I have managed to find one of each despite not knowing they existed up until about 5 weeks ago... Also a Johnny Lightning '72 Chevy Longbed I picked up last summer at a neighbor's yard sale. I wish the HotWheels trucks came as detailed as the JL truck is but they are still pretty cool!

Nice work special-K! And, thanks for the process on how you strip the parts. What type of paint do you use?

I just purchased 69 of the '62 Chevy surf trucks made by Hot Wheels from a fellow here on the post. I am going to do some modifications/customizing on some of them and sell the rest. I want to do a few 4x4's. I also think the graphics leave a bit to be desired, so I will go with the two-tone (body color and white cap) paint scheme on a few of them and see how they turn out.

The surf board snaps out pretty easily, so I may remove a few to get a different look also.

And by the way....all the previous posts of the customized '62s are awesome!

69! I thought I was bad. I have about 10-15 of them. I took one apart and made a mini clone of my '62.

Go for it,Al.I took a cap from a laundry detergent jug, filled it with stripper, and let it eat. Then, hose it off,let dry and primer.Just move all over it in light mists.I paint it upside-down first, then flip when it`s dry.Set it in the So,Florida sun and let it cure.Get as fancy as you like.On the`62s with white tops I painted the white first, when it dried I wrapped masking tape around the top and shot the lower color. The ront panel of the bed is part of the interior,so I masked the interior and shot body color on that and inside the bed.All that was chrome! I also painted the interior something other than chrome.I did no detailing, but the lights and trim can add a sweet touch.I kept mine as detailed as the original toy...played it safe. And,it just looks like it could have been maded that way...kind of.
Just for motivation,my son painted this Prowler when he was 6 or so.It had a wild green paint job with graphics and an orange interior. He loved yellow Prowlers,so I said,"make one".
