What size tip do you have on there right now? Different tips for different thicknesses of metal. herodcreekfarms 11-17-2008, 07:02 PM o so theres not just a general setting, i am used to using a plasma cutter, its sort of a no brainer. i am at a loss when it comes tot his torch woodwright 11-18-2008, 02:33 PM It's also really important to keep the tip clean. It'll cut like crap otherwise. Garagedude 11-18-2008, 03:15 PM I normally set my acetylene pressure to about 5psi that about all you need. Never exceed 15psi. You also have to remember that you can't draw more then 1/10 of the acetylene bottle per hour, because you can start withdrawing the acetone thats in the cylinder and there is also the risk of an explosion. There is a certain level of acetone in every acetylene cylinder, they put this in there so that they can get more acetylene into the cylinder. When you draw to much acetylene you start to draw acetone the pressure rises in the tank because the acetylene is now expanding and thats why there is a risk of explosion. Alot of people don't realize the dangers of working with acetylene. I never knew anything about this either until I started attending college for welding and I have several safety classes every week talking about this stuff. stump 11-18-2008, 09:15 PM i go to school for metals and we do some of this and we usually run the oxygen at 30 psi and the acetylene at 5-10 psi, when lighting the flame only turn on the acetylene no oxygen and turn the knob 1/2 of a turn, then ajust the flame using the oxygen.. if you get black smoke when you first lite it then add a little more fuel... carpainter 11-19-2008, 05:00 PM I normally set my acetylene pressure to about 5psi that about all you need. One other thing to remember. If you would happen to lay the acetylene tank on it's side for example to deliver a tank to your shop or whatever reason, leave it sitting up for at least 2 hours so the acetone will settle to the bottom of the tank. herodcreekfarms 11-19-2008, 06:54 PM aight thanks guys bdydrp97s10 11-20-2008, 08:09 PM if your looking for a general setting i would start at 5 psi for the acetylene and 25psi for the Oxy like they said it depends on what tip you have too but im sure you have a tip for cutting like 5/8" or 1".. which that setteing would do ok on. but you just need to get used to setting it up the way you like it. |
