Well yesterday i got a call from my the regional suppervisor and i was told i will be laid off.

Here is the email i received this morning when i got to work.

DHL Service Reductions

DHL recently announced its intention to shut down its US domestic network and focus solely on international shipments within the US. Consistent with this announcement, DHL has informed ASTAR that the number of cities required to be served will be reduced.

We have received a schedule amendment highlighting this reduction in service. Effective January 10, 2009, service will be affected in the following locations:

DEN....Denver
FLL.....Ft.Lauderdale
IAH.....Huston
MCI....Kansas City, MO.
LAS....Las Vagas
MHT...Manchester,NH
MEM...Memphis
MKE....Milwaukee
BNA....Nashville
MSY...New Orleans
PIT....Pittsburgh
STL...St.Louis
SAT...San Antonio

So thats it 13 station are getting shut down im not sure how many people this will affect im gonna guess probably 50 Aircraft Mechanics thats what i do there or did.

And probably 3 or 4x that many people within the DHL operations side of it.

My bro-in-law is upper management for DHL office in Houston. He just got back from meetings in Phoenix. All department heads were told to pick 10 employees that they needed to keep, and tell why.

He was fortunate that his department is small and all 7 employees will keep their job until February. After that he doesn't know who has a job.

Sorry man. The writing was on the wall. I cant imagine having to face my customers, glad I dont have to. My notice came via text message over my scanner. What did you think about the bogus lay off numbers that DHL publicly stated on announcement day? They said 9500. The TRUTH is more like 40,000.

Yeah i know they dont want America to really know the real truth! when they close the doors at the hub in ILN it's gonna take 10.000 jobs right there not including all the other biz's that depend on the support of all the hub employees.

What really sux is now when you wanna ship something you only have 2 options UPS or FED EX theres also the USPS but that gets flown by FED EX and now they can name their price so get ready and bend over!
