Ok I took my 84 C/K in on the 23 of Sept. To this day its still not ready the last time I checked with them they told me they were having problems getting the old paint off something about when they sand it it smears. The last time I talked to them 1 1/2 weeks ago he told me that they ordered some paint stripper. Does this sound like a excuse to buy time? I don't want to piss the guy off but dang its been 2 mths, tell me what you think

I know after 2 months I would be a bit pissed off. One of our local body shops is owned by a buddy's family and they are quick!! They have some of the best bodymen and painters around. I took my 72 to them and they told me they could have it in and out in less than 30 days. That is including all bodywork like the cab corners and rockers etc... Have you seen your truck? You should ask to see it, then you can tell if they are just full of shiet.

Sounds like a stall to me.

I agree, they're blowing you off. they probably gave you a 'good rate' and are putting you off for more lucrative jobs which have come in. When this happened to me (had a quarter welded onto a 300 zx) they blew me off for awhile-one day I walked into the garage where my car was and inspected it then walked up to the boss. be nice but firm-pleade your case but don't be an ass. if you turn the wrong people against it can come back and haunt you! Good luck.

sounds to me like they are stalling for some reason. It is possible if there was paint like earl sheib uses they eyould have problems taking that off cause that dies jam up the sanding discs but they shouoldnt take so long to be doing a job. Any time ive had my truck in a body shop, im there almost daily checking on progress. They get the hint soon enough. If you have a signed contract for the body work irregardless if they bit off more than they could chew you can legally hold them to it good luck and remember a squeaky wheel gets the grease:flag: :bowtie:

Sounds to me like the poor buggers don't have a clue. If it is being striped, any REAL bodyshop would have had it media blasted anyway. :(

Razorback fan,
They are definitely stalling. I went thru this same thing back in the summer when I had my ghost flames done. It was in the shop for exactly 8 weeks. Every time I called I got an excuse from "we are waiting for the paint" to "we had a problem with another customer's car" to "we are having problems with the paint reacting to the existing paint". I later found out they have an exclusive contract with CARMAX and do all their cars first. I knew I was getting a great deal and I wanted to go in there many times and raise hell but all the employees were so damn friendly and nice I kept my cool at the same time letting them know it was getting out of hand. In the end I was very happy and would go back as long as I was assured of a reasonable completion date. Good Luck!

I appreciate the comments and I guess I needed to vent a little. They did do allot of "extra" things to it here is a list of what they are doing

Install front and rear roll pan shave into fenders
Install tailgate skin and handle relocator kit
Shave side markers/drip rails and bed rail holes
Paint interior metal to match exterior
Redo hood it had a funky scoop on it done with fiberglass
Install H4 headlight kit
Phantom grille install
Paint is Dark Grey with Metallic flake
New Windshield/rear glass and gaskets/ chrome lockstrip

I think thats it, I know he will do a good job because he came highly recommended by lots of people and I've seen his work. Its just the original time was to be 3-4 weeks and we are now approaching 9. Anyway thanks for listening to me ramble.

My experience with bodyshops says your right on track with the time frame - I take the time they give and multiply by 3 :D
