Been there 20 years. Never been laid off. And thank GOD and Honda i still have the option to go to work.
Not too many companies will let you come to work when there is really nothing to do.
Cutting back to 3 days a week for all of January. Probably the same for Feb and March.
But i will have the option to go in and clean, paint, stuff like that.
Now i am really feeling bad for other people who have lost thier jobs. When it hits me, then it really sucks.
To all those out there who have lost thier jobs, I am sorry. Hope it gets better for you.
Mike

I feel you, we make rubber for mostly automotive uses and right now we are shut down and I am pressure washing the process floors in 40 weather, but at least I am working. We are a Japanese owned company and are counting on the fact that the Japanese don't think the way Americans do about lay-offs.

Arad68 12-13-2008, 04:12 PM Although it isn't for everyone, I am glad I made a career of the Air Force. Recession, layoffs, healthcare etc. were a main concern of mine when I hit my 4 year mark which is when I decided to stay in for the long run. I planned wisely, saving money, living within my means and stuck it out even when the chips were down. I now have a healthy retirement and only have to work if I choose.
I feel sorry for those who are hurting. Things should not be this way. :waah:
msgross 12-13-2008, 04:58 PM That's good that they give you some hours, also keep the benefits going as well...
I'm thankful for the military as well, it has really provided for the family and I so I can't complain.
We just dropped off two bags at the local food bank, maybe it's time for some more...
Hang in there everyone, at least gas is down...
jamie72 12-14-2008, 07:49 AM hang in the fine, i`m gettin cut back also, were shutting down an extra week in jan, and the company i work for are forcing us to use a week of our vacation that week.
GOPAPA 12-14-2008, 08:59 AM In this part of the country it's the paper mill layoffs that big as of late . I heard a 100 jobs were cut and one of the young men I know has been there at least 10 years.
I do know that the mill is about pushing 100 years old and a lot of the machines are obsolete and not making money so I think that has a lot to do with a quite a few industries,, as to not moderize is killing them now..
Of course there is plastic taking some of the paper products away from them and also the fact that buyers not buying durring a recession ,,but I do question the modernization problems with all manufacturing and mills as a big reason there is not a market that they can substain durring a slow down period.
Just a discussion /not an complete fact / just looking over the fence at what I see
thirdstreettito 12-14-2008, 11:02 AM Thank God for foreign companies! Kinda...

well mike you and i are in the same boat i work for a company called GTI we make plastic parts for honda and supply the following cities: marysville, east liberty, and greensburg, in. we also supply to our sister comanys in listowel ontario, and in alabama, i just cant remember the city, we have already gained 2 days on our shutdown, and friday they announces very weak sales for the first half of 09 and 7 additional days of shutdown of honda plants we supply. Im just glad to have a job and hopefully things clear up soon enough
67ChevyRedneck 12-14-2008, 12:06 PM Don' t worry, y'all will have plenty of work after GM and Chrysler shut down.

This country better pray that doesn't happen. If your associated with the auto industry then you realize all the feeder plants that feed parts to those two companies. If you think its bad now...it won't be nothing compared to what would happen if either GM or Chrysler would close their doors. I just took a 45% pay cut to help keep the doors open at my company and yes I supply welding parts to the auto companies and the plants that feed the auto assembly and stamping plants. But the good news....I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. :metal:
That would be the oncoming train.

Unfortunately, I'd have to agree. GM may be literally days from filing for bankruptcy. I hope they're not.
I'm well aware of what would happen and the ripple effect that would occur. It could be strong enough to take down Ford Chrysler and a few import brands as well. It would put a couple million people out of work and destroy this countries manufacturing base. My father in law already lost his job. He worked for Tyco, they supply electrical components to automakers.

Geeee....I was hoping that was the flood light leading the way to new prosperity.

I saw they were going to keep Pontiac as a niche brand. It would be their performance cars.
