I thought with all the lay offs, that it might be helpful to know that there are some federal protections under the WARN act. Basically, it is a requirement that companies give a 60 day notice before they lay you off. If they do not do this, they must pay you for those 60 days AND keep your benefits going for that time period. This only applies plant closings of 100 employees or more. It also applies to mass lay offs for companies with 50 employees or more. I have provided a link to a brief explanation of the WARN act. At the bottom there is a pdf file of the whole law available. I hope it might help some of you just in case. Here is link:

WARN can be a real lifesaver. Awhen I worked at an OSB mill, they wanted to lay off everyone (67% of the plant) immediately, so they were forced to pay us our 2 months pay in lieu of the notice...

The Warn Act cuts both ways. My skills were needed for another 30 days. I was willing. The extra cash would have been great. But I could not be extended for only 30 days due to the 60 day rule. Sounds stupid, but that is the way it was played. I lost. Others win.

I worked at Bill Heard Chevrolet in AZ. We are suing Bill Heard for violating the warn act by only giving us 2 hours notice of layoffs.
