was wondering what colors and where the colors would go to make it look like chrome, was thinking of trying to make it look like the chrome trim on 78 trucks, the thin stuff on the sides

There is NO easy answer to this. Do you have airbrushing skills? You need to look at chrome to get an idea. Pictures, actual parts you are trying to duplicate, ect... The colors are relative to what is surounding the vehicle. If there is a red car next to yours, then there will be red in it. This is NOT a effect that can be done to any degree of realism if you have no experence. You would be better off having that done by a professional.

The "answer" is easy, the chops to pull it off are "phenomenally artistic" with an airbrush.
Basically,top,"sky",middle White-chrome,bottom,Earth or dark..
Here ya go,Knock yourself out. Borrowed these from ab.com,not mine.
Another aspect is to metal turn Silver and highlite with Black. This gives you a "staineless" look. That's the last one from Keef' Nice work!..

Just wanted to ad that there is a true chrome paint called mirra chrome that when done correctly (over black) it truly appears to be chrome with reflection and everything!!!!!! Its not too cheap though and its like a two day process but the outcome is very cool!!!! I'll try to find the bottle of it and put a pic of it on here!!!!

I hope your not talking about ALSA's. That is MAJOR work to pull it off.

do you shoot alot of Alsa? I've heard MAJOR negative feed back on them. From world reknown custom painters that REFUSE to endorse their products.

I spent a lot of time in art class trying to simulate a "chrome" looking surface and all I can is that it is HARD. One consideration is the amount of different colors you will need, at least three grays, a few tints of white, them some browns/oranges for the ground reflection simulation, then a few blues for the sky, and of course black and white... I suppose you can do tints with mixtures of all the above, but wow, I think ghost skulls would be infinitely easier, lol...

Nope, I talked to the owner. It's the Mirra Chrome. Gloss black first and then the Chrome top coat. Very expensive paint according to him. The pictures don't do it justice. You almost had to touch it to believe it. Here's another view.

This truck was painted from the body line down in bc/cc black. then, with a flawless paint job, you wipe it down with denatured alcohol.DO NOT SAND. Then spray the mirrachrome on with an airbrush. You can't even imagine how little material is on there. The longivity of this paint is unknown. Alsa is not known in the custom world as being great stuff. Customer service sucks, random results, longivity of there candies is short, etc... They get away with this because when you have a problem, they tell you it is something YOU did. This is not MY opinion, it is FACT from people who have dealt with them. I have heard they could be a great company if they would perfect what they have instead of coming out with something new and crazy. Awsome looking stuff though.

The "chrome" paints ARE a MAJOR pita and "perfection" of EVERY step is MANDATORY....
I have a direct hook up with MOTO'S line and it's about as good as it gets BUT,it's not cheap or easy either.
I've used HOK's MC-00 quite a bit and it's no cakewalk either.
3 real secrets to spraying it are,
1.A flawless surface before
2.Perfect atomization of the chrome paint
3.The initial clear coat over the chrome base and NOT screw that.
After you pull that off, your home free.

OH, I forgot one "other" little detail,
D-E-L-A-M-I-N-A-T-I-O-N......
Your spraying the chrome base over a slick surface.
Aluminum particles suspended in alcohol don't stick well on a cured, smooth surface btw.

So what you are saying is that beautiful truck is a complete trailer quen and will never be driven? What a shame.

that paint is @240 a pint! or 1300 a gallon. The truck is probably driven around the show grounds, but I guaranty he doesnt want any rock chips. Like Mike said there is NO mechanical bond whatso ever to that paint. It just sets there. It is sprayed over a flawless shiny black paint job.
