Last month 660,000 people were layed off. I was back in March and still cant find a job...more time for my truck LOL but with Louisiana unemployment, I'm not getting much done. So how is everyone?

I'm getting real close to hitting seven months out. It's tough out there. Washington just gave out nearly 3k layoff notices to our teachers. Boeing will be packing their bags and moving. Even Microsoft is laying off. Every day there are more. For every new layoff is just one more person to compete with for that menial job. I just keep on doing what I can.

I was a drill bit salesman for Hughes Christensen. I did $8MM in sales last year and this year they had to cut 5% of their work force. It didn't matter how much revenue I was bringing to the company...I just happened to have the shortest straw on April 23rd.

This has really been a blessing though. I had a company truck for the last 8 years and now that I lost the truck, I had to find something to drive. It just so happened that I was donating some clothes and things to a church around the corner from my house, and sitting between two buildings was this '72 GMC that had been donated to the church 6 months earlier. I went in and talked to the pastor to see if he could let it go. He said, here are the keys, go see if it starts. It turned over on the first try and runs beautifully. I made an offer and we agreed on $1800. I really think God has blessed me with this truck. I want to fix it up. It's a real joy to drive. My wife and kids always want to go in the truck because it just feels cool!

I should be looking for a job but I found this website and I am stuck here looking at all the projects.

Everybody hang in there....God has a plan for you. Jeremiah 29:11

Hey Mark :welcome2:. Great story about your truck. Be sure to share some pics with us. Sounds like your sales experience will be a great attribute in finding a new Job.

My last employers idea of saving money was to lay off almost all of its sale staff.

Thanks Sillyoldman. I would love to share pictures. I have about 8 so far but I'm still trying to figure out how to get my profile pic to post. I have it sized down to 640 X 480 but I'm still not seeing it.

Somebody has already made an attempt at restoring this truck. I will take it from here. Needs paint and some minor accessories. I can't decide if I should go custom or stock.

....same here, laid off 12/5/08. Coming up on 6 months and Im going nuts. I havent gotten a phone call...went to one interview and got lowballed badly. Its very difficult to stay motivated and just in a good mood. I'm even getting stalked by the single mom down the street because I walk my dogs every day and I dont even care:lol:. I started sanding my truck just to keep busy and to stop from thinking about the crater we live in, formerly known as the USA. Good luck everybody.

Be a full six months in a few days.

Bought a house a couple weeks ago. Been real busy doing a light interior renovation... paint, new carpet, etc.

My only interviews have been with the DOT, a year or two ago I would have been a shoe in as a top candidate, but now, there is so much competition, it's so damn hard to be "the best."

I've been out only two weeks and I'm going insane. Got bills from school I have to pay back and I had just took out a loan 3 weeks ago to pay for some un-expected espenses that arose. I was a machinist in a pump repair shop and with alot of the local companies cutting back production to almost 20%, the chance of something going wrong slim majorly down. They let 13 of us go. And I haven't filled the unemployeement paperwork out in hopes to find a job quickly but its lookin like I will have to.

Starting a one week layoff now. When we return in June, we start 32 hour work weeks. 12 people got canned today. Another week off for the fourth and labor day- if we even make it that far. The work I was hired for 5 years ago is all but non- existant now. The guy they hired to help me 2 years ago when I was buried is now my boss, even though I make significantly more than he does. I look to get a pay cut or the axe soon.
