I have a 1972 LWB Cheyenne with the trailing arm setup. It also has a disk brake kit from CPP that uses the Cadillac calipers. Before, I had a set of 10 inch centerline telstars in the rear but decided to cut the wells out and switch to a 12 inch rim. Now, the telstars cleared the disk brake setup fine but the new wheels do not. I ordered an Eliminator from Centerlines new line of wheels thinking I would not have an issue....well I do. The new 12 inch wide wheels do not clear the brake calipers. I tried to get the wheels to fit by grinding down the caliper but it's just not gunna work.

My question is......does anyone know of a wheel I can buy that has 7 inch backspace, 12in width and 5x5 pattern that will clear a disk brake setup? If I cannot find a wheel that I like.....and clear the calipers, I will have to pull all this disk brake stuff off and put drum brakes back on. I really do not want to let these wheels go.....they look like jewelry.

I guess I will just bite the bullet and buy some aerospace or willwood brakes. Both companies have kits that will work with the truck 12 bolt.

I had the same problem when I tried bead locks with my wildwood rear disc.

I'm curious to know how you corrected that issue? And what size are your rotors? Since the size of rotors will differ the location of the caliper.

What's up outlaw? I'm watching this thread, cuz i'm planning on doing the same thing. I was thinking that you would need 7.5" of bs, for the wheel to tuck? But your rearend might be a little different than mine.

Hey bud how's it going? the 7 inch backspace seems to work fine. I'm going to have to get rid of the CPP disk brake kit tho as my wheels will not clear the calipers at all. I even ground them down quite a bit and they still don't clear, even with a 3/4 inch spacer. Not the way I need to go. I need them to mount solid to the axle. These wheels are very nice and I want to run them so my only options are to put drums back on it or find another disk brake kit. Well, since the CPP kit is on and I have all the supporting hardware for disk brakes, I really cannot justify going backwards. The CPP kit uses a 13 inch rotor and a caliper that is kind of thick. the 13 inch rotor is what's killing me. Willwood sales a kit that has a 12.19 inch rotor and aerospace sales a kit that uses a rotor that's just under 12 inches. The willwood kit would move the caliper down almost an inch. This, combined with the smaller caliper should make plenty of clearance for the wheels. The willwood kit is about $630 and the aerospace kit is about $610. I'm getting ready to call aerospace tho and let them know my setup. Since they use a smaller rotor than willwood, they only recommend their rear brakes for vehicles under 4,000 lbs. However, since I do not pull or haul anything with the truck, maybe they will work....maybe not. Either way the willwood kit might be the better option.......since it also comes with e-brake. Not that I really need that. I just want the wheels to clear and still be able to stop.

I'm not sure how the stopping capability compares to the Wilwood or the Aerospace setup, but have you looked at the Impala SS disc brake setup? This setup can be done for less $$ than the aftermarket kits. I have a set of the caliper brackets if you're interested.

Don't get me wrong....I'm gunna need to stop this big pig but I mainly want the wheels to clear. I ran a search on the forum and come across some of the threads on the impala brake setup. I would be interested in going that route if I knew for a fact the brakes would clear my wheels. I already know for a fact the aerospace brakes will clear them. I spoke to a guy there yesterday and he has what I need....even for the weight of the vehicle. I think I'm gunna give Aerospace a try over willwood. Some of the racers here in my area run these brakes and they like em. I'm going to pull the CPP kit and sell it. The CPP kit is fine for 10 inch wheels and smaller. I'm guessing most guys on this board that have mini tubbed their ride still have drum brakes because there are no threads anywhere talking about mini tubbing and disk brakes.

I would also like to point out that the Aerospace kit with polished aluminum 4 piston calipers, blank rotors pre drilled for your application and caliper brackets for $610 plus shipping. They reccomend with the heavier trucks that the weight is not really an issue for the pro street brakes as long as you use a drilled rotor. Every application is different.

A backing plate I had made water jetted
Caprice rotor
4th gen camaro caliper that I ground down


Any guess how much fluid I'd loose pulling an axle out? It's got c-clip eliminators. If it's minimal and your willing to pay for the freight I could do it on my next day off (Next Wed)..

I appreciate the offer bud......but I posted an add in the classifieds here and have three or four VERY interested parties. I'm going to sale the CPP kit and buy an Aerospace kit. If I had seen this prior to that responsibility, I would consider it. I see your a mod now...congrats!

Hey outlaw, those rims are perfect for what we are trying to do. That thing is going to look great. What size tires front and rear are you going to use? Also what did they cost?

The rear wheel...for now...is getting a 33x10.5w slick. When those wear out, I'm going to put a set of 14.50 Hoosiers on them. Those wheels were about $575 shipped. Centerline had to make them and that took almost 6 months. I will buy a matching set of fronts later. Just wanted to get the mini tub out of the way.
