View Full Version : September Get Together
Driveway Dreams 07-12-2009, 10:49 PM Well here is the "official" thread about the next get together for Colorado. So far the talk has been about doing it at the end of August. Everyone chime in with any thoughts you have. I think it would be great to do a BBQ in the north metro area. Maybe a park in the Thornton area? If we meet in that area maybe we can get everyone from the northern group of us and get the guys from the southern contingency to all get together. Lets make this a good one!!! :metal:
I know that for me and my family, Sunday August 30th would be great! What do you all think?
cochino12 07-15-2009, 12:36 AM I would love to but please dont do it on the 25-26, my buddy has a huge party that nobod should miss.
http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=150880
if anyone wants to come please let me know and I'll make sure there is room for everyone either at the farm/party or at my house which is about 3-4 miles away
Edit: Hopefully the guy that painted my CC will have it repainted by the time we meet up
Driveway Dreams 07-16-2009, 01:37 PM Anybody else have any input? Does the 30th of August work for everyone?
powell72 07-16-2009, 04:31 PM It turns out the 30th might not work for me, I'll be out of town that Saturday and returning sometime Sunday. It would just depend on what time.
Driveway Dreams 07-17-2009, 12:00 PM Afternoon, evening?
powell72 07-17-2009, 02:43 PM Afternoon, evening?
Yes. Maybe late afternoon, just not morning.
TonyJohnson 08-05-2009, 12:34 AM I'll try to make it.
Driveway Dreams 08-05-2009, 09:58 PM Ok, so I am calling it right now.
August 30th in the afternoon. Where we gonna do it? Anybody have any suggestions? I still think the north end of the Metro area would be good for getting more of us together easier.
cochino12 08-07-2009, 07:10 AM Not sure I can make it on the 30th, I just talked my friends into changing our fantasy football draft from the 22 (wifes b-day) to the 30th. I'll see if we can do it on Saturday.
Gerald, sorry I didnt get back to you the other day. I ended up going back into the yard to grab a perfect sport bumper and those buckets and the guy at the desk changed his pricing once I pulled everything out and hauled it to the counter. It pissed me off and we ended up arguing a bit and I was "politely asked to leave" Too bad though, those buckets were in pretty good shape and I could have used the bumper for my Blazer.
TonyJohnson 08-07-2009, 07:57 AM I don't know the area well enough to pick a park, but I'm up for just about anything. If you announce this on one of the who's in Colorado thread, more folks will get an email.
Tony
TonyJohnson 08-10-2009, 11:12 AM Turns out the 30th is a horse show my wife entered without telling me. Saturday would be better for me, as well...
Driveway Dreams 08-10-2009, 09:46 PM I can't do Saturdays because of my awesome work schedule. You guys should all get together that weekend.
We can figure out a Sunday during September to do a "End of Summer" party with all of us from the whole area. Who would be up for that? I think I have my wife's approval to host something at our house in Greeley if you all would like.
powell72 08-13-2009, 07:01 PM September would be good, and if it's later in the month it might be a little cooler.
TonyJohnson 08-13-2009, 07:11 PM September would be good, and if it's later in the month it might be a little cooler.
That's fine with me.
Driveway Dreams 08-14-2009, 10:13 AM How about the last Sunday of September? The 27th. I think I can do that one. And, again if we have enough people coming up from down south maybe we can do it down in the Metro area to make it easier for eveyone.
powell72 08-14-2009, 01:05 PM I'll check but I think that works for me.
glock35ipsc 08-17-2009, 09:29 PM I'm down for that too. August is winding down and I'm finding my weekends are pretty full..... without my prior knowledge. :D
Driveway Dreams 08-19-2009, 09:46 AM I'm down for that too. August is winding down and I'm finding my weekends are pretty full..... without my prior knowledge. :D
Funny how that seems to happen...but mostly only to us married guys.
6772owner 08-20-2009, 02:40 PM Im in for the end of Sept as well, August is a busy month this year!
Driveway Dreams 08-20-2009, 10:16 PM SUNDAY THE 27TH
Should we all plan on that?
glock35ipsc 08-21-2009, 09:02 AM I'm down with that.
TonyJohnson 08-21-2009, 09:05 AM sounds good.
asphaltburner 08-21-2009, 11:13 PM Yo! I'm with you guys for 9/27 (said that for the Loveland thing too,...BUT Greeley is like next door for me!! And FRANKENTRUCK is nearly 100% at this time!). By 9/27 I should be scaring folks with my new Kenwood stereo installation and maybe even have the vacuum advance finally perfect. Initial and centrifugal are perfect at this point.
The truck will not have bodywork finished or new paint, so you'll have to pardon it's appearance. Bet you'll be IMPRESSED with it's mechanicals, though! All my work.
Todd.
Driveway Dreams 08-22-2009, 09:44 AM Cool, can't wait! Don't worry there is only a few of the guys from around here with pretty trucks. We all have something done to them, but I don't know that anyone with the exception of a couple, have paint & what not done. This is gonna be a good time.
javadoc 08-24-2009, 12:22 PM 27th could be do-able for me. I'll have to check my growing "To Do" list that SWMBO keeps adding to, but I'd like to check out the scene. The truck's been abused this summer, what with basement and yard improvements, but still fun to get out with it.
Driveway Dreams 08-24-2009, 12:34 PM Hey cool. It would be good to get another person out with us. Where in Parker you at? There are a couple guys down there. And, I have family in the Pinery.
javadoc 08-24-2009, 01:02 PM Hey cool. It would be good to get another person out with us. Where in Parker you at? There are a couple guys down there. And, I have family in the Pinery.
Hey Gerald. I'm in Canterberry (south side of the neighborhood). I haven't been to any truck-owner meets, usually go to meets with the Euro-crowd, so it'd be fun.
Driveway Dreams 08-24-2009, 04:09 PM Totaly different group. I used to do the VW thing and often hated the GTGs because all the dumbasses. I actually enjoy the group of people on here. (And, no Bob, I am not just saying that.) :)
So, where are we going to meet up? Should everyone meet in the middle...somewhere like the North metro area? Or should we just make everyone from the south areas drive up to us again? :D What does everyone think? If, people don't mind the kids around, & driving to Greeley. I think I still have permission to do it at my house.
powell72 08-24-2009, 09:16 PM There's a chance I might be gone that weekend, I won't know until it gets a little closer, but if I'm around, count me in.
asphaltburner 08-24-2009, 11:06 PM Yo! I can't afford to host it, but I have an 8000 sqft indoor riding arena with a packed sand floor if it's BYO (and I CAN stock the fridge with cheap beer! That's IF my wife doesn't KILL me for telling you all that!).
Todd.
asphaltburner 08-24-2009, 11:07 PM Yo! I think I'm gonna be dead by then!
Todd.
Driveway Dreams 08-25-2009, 12:00 AM Yo! I can't afford to host it, but I have an 8000 sqft indoor riding arena with a packed sand floor if it's BYO (and I CAN stock the fridge with cheap beer! That's IF my wife doesn't KILL me for telling you all that!).
Todd.
Sounds like a great place for a bunch of people to hang out! :smoke:
hilandr452 08-25-2009, 12:55 AM If everything is running well, I'd like to try to make it up and meet y'all. We'll see...
asphaltburner 08-25-2009, 08:45 AM Yo!
WELL! Only one, very small, itsy-bitsy, tiny detail I missed when I said I could make it in the first place that SUDDENLY occurred to me in the middle of the night when I woke up in a cold sweat (as if my balls had been clapped between two bricks!!),...OMG!, sure thought I remembered SOMETHING about 9/27,...I'm gonna be OUT OF THE COUNTRY!!
Haven't been on vacation in a year and a half, and in my usual SOSDD and bustin' on my projects in between, the reality of having a week long SCUBA trip booked six months ago finally came through!
Told my wife we'll have to cancel the trip,...
Yeah, right! I was so excited to have a get together just 15 minutes away!! Damn!
Now I'm bummed.
We'll just have to plan the next one at my place if you all would be willing to travel to Ault.
Geeze, I'm bummed,...
Todd.
glock35ipsc 08-25-2009, 08:58 AM Hmmm, that's a long way to drive from Nunn, but I can certainly try!
:haha:
menace121978 08-25-2009, 02:28 PM mind if some californians show up!?
just need a time, address, and what to bring... were going to try and schedule our vaca around this:metal:
glock35ipsc 08-25-2009, 02:43 PM OK, the pressure is on!! We have a left coast'r coming out, can't change the date now!
6772owner 08-25-2009, 03:05 PM Yea now we have show what we got LOL Any idea's on a spot to meet up yet?
asphaltburner 08-25-2009, 05:59 PM Yo! Geeze am I gonna miss a good one! Damn!
Glock, you're in or near Nunn? Holy Crap! I've probably SEEN your truck/trucks!
Todd.
glock35ipsc 08-25-2009, 06:42 PM I'm off of 19 , right between Nunn and Wellington. :D
asphaltburner 08-25-2009, 08:44 PM Yo! Geeze! I'm between 84 and 86 just east of Hwy 85 'tween Ault and Pierce! 19 would be the Black Hollow road.
How cool, Bob!
Todd.
glock35ipsc 08-25-2009, 08:59 PM Yup, and a mile south of the Nunn Road. Bummer you won't be able to make this get together, but I'm sure it won't be the last! I hope!!
asphaltburner 08-25-2009, 09:10 PM If that happens I'll organize something!
Todd.
javadoc 08-25-2009, 09:29 PM Wow, Ault? That's 100 miles for me. Not sure the old beast would like that kind of a trip. :)
menace121978 08-25-2009, 09:59 PM could you guys help us out on planning our trip? like points of intrest, best places/area to stay, things we just cant miss, ect.
keep in mind this is our 1st time out of cali and 1st road trip like this;)
thanks guys, Dennis
hilandr452 08-25-2009, 11:16 PM Well, if you're going to be heading North of Denver, I'd check out Loveland, and Estes Park, that's where the famous Stanley Hotel is from the movie "The Shining", and you'll want to see Fort Collins as well, nice college town there. If you're going to go to Estes, take the long way, from I-25 through Loveland and all the way up through one of the most spectacular canyons you'll ever drive through, Bog Thompson Canyon. My wife's uncle and aunt own and run the Indian Village tourist trap about 8 miles up the road from Loveland, be sure to stop in, they have some really expensive antiques and touristy stuff in there. Is it state highway 34 guys? or 14? Can't remember.
If you're headed to central Colorado, you want to come through Colorado Springs. We have a bit of everything here, pro rodeo hall of fame, us olympic training center, Garden of the Gods park, Cave of the Winds, Air Force Academy, We have Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs on out western edge, nice areas to walk around or cruise through with plenty of parks and shops to please the ladies. We're really close to the Rocky Mountains and about 40 miles from Cripple Creek gambling town as well if you're into that sort of thing.
As you can see, I left out Denver. Nothing to see there but liberals and smog. =p. And steer clear of The People's Republic of Boulder.
Post your itinerary and that will give a better idea of where and when the best areas to go to are for your vacation.
Oh and if you're a lib, sorry I didn't mean to offend, was mostly joking. (mostly)
:gmc2:
Dan
Driveway Dreams 08-25-2009, 11:27 PM ...As you can see, I left out Denver. Nothing to see there but liberals and smog. =p. And steer clear of The People's Republic of Boulder....
 :haha:  Now that was funny!
I would try to see Dinosaur National Monument if you go close enough. If you come through the southern part of the state, drive the "Million Dollar Highway." Estes Park is an amazing place to see. My brother came out here for the first time this year and could not get enough. Take time to see Rocky Mountain National park while you are there. And, it is off of Highway 34.
menace121978 08-25-2009, 11:49 PM i tryed to paste a link from google maps but its not letting me. it only shows the quickest way out there going I80 through utah and wyoming and then hitting 287 into fort collins area. we seriously have no idea whats out there... on the way or anything. i'm going to look up estes park and the rocky mountains to see if it would be best to just get there and then drive to the different places or drive through on the way.
is colorado small enough to find a place to stay in fort collins and use as a home base and drive to different places from there?
my zip code is orangevale ca. 95662 if someone wants to try and google it. we hope to have sept. 25th through oct. 4th off but maybe the 27th-4th. depends on work. if we dont get the extra 2 days i'll have to drive straight through to make the BBQ. thoughts?
glock35ipsc 08-26-2009, 08:18 AM You'll have no problem finding a place in Ft Collins, but like I said before, check with me before you reserve something!! Remember, my wife works for the PD, and knows which ones are NOT used to cook meth!
I-80 will be your quickest way out, then you can take Hwy 287 from Laramie to Ft Collins, or go another 45 minutes to Cheyenne and drop south on I-25 to Ft Collins. If you take I-25, you pass within 6 miles of me :D
From Ft Collins, it's a relatively short drive to Loveland then on up to Estes Park. From Estes you are right at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, and if you keep driving, you can take Trail Ridge Road over the top (11,700-some feet) to Grand Lake.
Or from Estes, you can go south to Black Hawk and Central City, our little mining/gambling towns.
Boulder is OK to drive through as long as you don't stop, roll the windows down, or talk to anyone. If you travel with a handgun, unload it before you enter Boulder. If not, you WILL shoot someone!
You can also go up Poudre Canyon from Fort Collins. Then either turn at Rustic and go across to Red Feather, then back down through Livermore to Ft Collins. Or keep going up the Poudre to Laramie River, then go across.......
Hell, there are a million things to see here!!! All depends on how much time you have to be here. Just about any town along the front range has something to offer (except for Boulder, and maybe Longmont). From Ft Collins, you are just about an hour from something fun and interesting.
I may be able to take a day off if you want a guide. I wouldn't want to be a tag-along on your vacation, but if there was something in particular you wanted to see, I'm up for it.
menace121978 08-26-2009, 10:24 AM wow... sounds great! i'm thinking Fort Collins is the place to stay then. an hour away from everything is perfect...
as far as a guide Bob, we dont want to put you out or make ya uncomfortable being seen with some 'left coasters', but that would be sweet. just having someone that knows the area and places to see is piece of mind.
the thing i want to see most anyways is Fred! running on e85 of course!!;) Amy probably has other plans but what the heck!?:haha:
glock35ipsc 08-26-2009, 12:00 PM Do you have a GPS, like a Nuvi or TomTom? That would make getting around here really easy.
menace121978 08-26-2009, 12:03 PM nope nothing like that buddy. just an old fashion road map is all we have.
Driveway Dreams 08-26-2009, 12:07 PM We could turn the get together into a big cruise through the hills. What do you all think? Then it gets us all out and we can give a tour. ;) If you are here on a Wednesday, I am off and could show you around too.
Check the Rand McNally website. They make the big road atlas you probably have. They have trip planner on there. Harley has one too. That might be a help to your planning.
menace121978 08-26-2009, 12:12 PM good idea on the atlas! and thank you guys for all the input, its much apprieciated... we will try to have it all planned and maped out before we leave. (but you know how 'plans' go:) definitely down for a cruise/tour!
Driveway Dreams 08-26-2009, 01:10 PM What are you driving out? The GTO? Or you got something else?
Here is the Rand McNally link. http://www.randmcnally.com/rmc/road/rtgHome.jsp
menace121978 08-26-2009, 10:37 PM right on, thanks for the link! just got home from work.
i was planning on driving out the GTO. Amy's bimmer just hit 70k the other day so i figure we should put more miles on the goat... i'm going to check out that link. Amy just left a message and said her class is looking good to go. no tests!! so thats 1 less thing to figure out:)
have you guys nailed down a time and place yet?
Driveway Dreams 08-27-2009, 10:58 AM Everybody ok to meet somewhere in the Longmont area? Kinda in the middle for a lot of us. And gives us a decent place to head out from for a cruise through the foothills. What does everyone think?
6772owner 08-27-2009, 12:31 PM Sounds good to me, just let me know when/where
coloradosean2009 08-27-2009, 11:06 PM I am new to the board and bew owner of a 72 c20. I lived in fort Collins for 3 years. I vote we meet in Loveland at crackerbarrel around late breakfast time. Then do a group drive to estes park. Have a late lunch then group drive to fort Collins and hit a local micro-brewery. I like Odells. Once the DD's get tired of the rest of us- we go to the drive-in and see a flick.
That is my vote. Of course- late September is also not going to be good for me at work unless something changes. I should no soon.
Driveway Dreams 08-28-2009, 12:24 AM Sean (I'm guessing that's your name?), that sounds great except I don't know what the guys from down south like Parker & Colo Springs think of coming that far north. But lets see what people say. By the way, what do you drive?
coloradosean2009 08-28-2009, 07:14 AM 1972 c20 Long box- 350 - th350 - mild rv cam.
I live in Centennial- so I know what you mean about going north. I thought the drive-in sounded like a good idea. From what I know, the only drive-in left is the one in the Fort. Do you guys know of another?
Driveway Dreams 08-30-2009, 05:59 PM If we all meet near Longmont, and go out on a cruise after hanging out for a bit, who would be there? There is a nice park right off of Highway 119. It is a few miles off I-25 and leaves us at a good place to go up in to the hills for a cruise too. I will include the link to the park info. Let me know what you all think. I think it would be a nice place, with good access to go cruising. And it is not too far north or south.
Here is the link. And they have a map you can click to enlarge. http://www.ci.longmont.co.us/parks/park_list/overview/SSR_Community_Park.htm
TonyJohnson 08-30-2009, 06:40 PM Hey Gerald, maybe we can get an admin or moderator to change the title of this thread to September Get Together. Someone who sees the post may not look deeper after today, thinking that they've already missed it. Just a thought. You could also start another post, but some that are subscribed to the thread might not catch it... Maybe just do an new post with the correct title and a link to this thread...
Longmont and then a cruise sounds perfect to me. Unless you want to leave from Boulder... lol. ;)
menace121978 08-30-2009, 06:48 PM well, i am disappointed to say the least. Amy can't miss a week of school... her teacher said missing a week of anatomy and physiology would put her too far behind and he wouldnt recommend going. so if i come out i'll be alone:( my heart has been set on this and there is no talking her into it after our last 'discussion'. this sucks guys...
Driveway Dreams 08-30-2009, 10:48 PM Tony Good point. Let's see what Bob can do for us.
glock35ipsc 08-31-2009, 08:27 AM I'm checking into getting the title changed. If not, we can make a new post and link to it from here. That way, folks sub'd to this thread will get a notification with the new link.
Dennis, that sucks bro! Sounds like the trip is not canceled though, just delayed. Keep things squared up at home, we'll be here for a while. :D
glock35ipsc 08-31-2009, 08:36 AM OK, done. Liz rocks! :metal:
TonyJohnson 08-31-2009, 08:38 AM That works! Cool...
menace121978 08-31-2009, 09:15 AM Dennis, that sucks bro! Sounds like the trip is not canceled though, just delayed. Keep things squared up at home, we'll be here for a while. :D
thanks Bob good point... yea the trip is definitely not canceled! i have got to see whats over there;) we'll play it by ear so i dont get my hopes up again:lol:
Driveway Dreams 08-31-2009, 10:38 AM Let us know when you want to make it out here. I think I speak for the other guys when I say you are welcome to come see us anytime.
So...who is up for meeting in Longmont and cruising out from there?
glock35ipsc 08-31-2009, 11:04 AM Me! :burnout:
menace121978 08-31-2009, 10:02 PM thanks guys! it means alot... we'll reschdule for sometime soon for sure. have fun on the cruise for me!!
Driveway Dreams 08-31-2009, 10:25 PM If you send me a picture of your GTO it can still go with us. :D
menace121978 08-31-2009, 10:41 PM :haha: ask and recieve buddy!! and before anyone asks yes thats my only shirt!
