Whats the trick? How do you do that?

It should be more like this (http://www.redlineautosports.com/69x55camaro/) though.

Well I don't have photoshop. I use gimp, which is a free software
package.

The techniques I use differ depending on the source image. With this
image being grey, I created a layer of color to overlay on top of the
image to just add color to the below shadows and highlights. There are
different modes to choose from when creating layers. I used three
layers of the true hugger orange color in overlay mode and two layers
of hugger_orange set to hue mode. I played with the transparencies
until it was close. Some images you can just rotate the colors which
shifts the color base to a new color.

The really hard part is making the surface shiny. Which I can't do very
well. You really need to have reflections and shadows to really show
the reflectiveness of the surface.

not some of my better work, but what do you want for 3 min.

If you compare this image with the one I created, you can see how the reflections and hightlights create the illusion of a shiny metal.

Here is a sample of hugger orange if anyone wants it. Orange is definetly a hard color to get from grey.

You know I was gonna go a nice metallic purple for my 69 once I paint it but seeing that last one done with the hugger orange and white roof and center. Damn that looks sweet. I was thinking of trying to keep with a factory color and style. This may just convince me a bit more.

Iam starting to use photoshop to play with pictures, but I have always used Macromedia Fireworks, but I was not playing with real pics mostly logos and stuff for web sites.

I guess I will have to take some spare time to figure out the paint thing. I am guessing that you are just getting the outlines of the image first, once you have that it is easy to create layers and do what you want with them.
