When I picked up my burb last week in Denver it showed 1/4 tank of gas so I fueled up before leaving and it held 36 gallons, how big are the stock tanks and was there a bigger tank as an option or do I have an aftermarket tank. I still havent figured out just how much this thing holds but I did get 11.5 MPG on the way back.

I've never run my dry but have been told the common aftermarket burb tanks we see quite a bit are 40 gallon tanks. I guess it could be near 42 gallons in size I've never run it dry and don't plan to. My gauge goes way over full when filled and is near dry (assumed at 40 gallons) near that 1/4 tank mark. The through bolts are similar to saddle tank mounts in pickups with 3/8 or 1/2 drive cap nuts on the bottom and the tank flares up towards bumper near rear of tank. You can also look underneath and see top of tank channeled to fit over body x-member. These tanks are a must have in my opinion.

The 22 gallon tank is standard. It sounds to me that you have an aftermarket tank.

I have the factory tank, plus an aftermarket tank. Takes close to 40 gallons to fill! Makes my wallet whimper whenever I do! (In fact, that reminds me, I need to fill up before I hit the commute home today!)

I have an Aero tank made for 69-72 blazers and it is a 40 gallon tank but looks different than this one, JC Whitney used to sell the Aero tanks so you might check there.

My '72 came with a dealer installed 50-gallon unit!!

It's a scary fillup (Currently costs over $100 when empty)....but you can't complain about the "range" once it's full.....
