We sell USBODY fiberglass parts on our online catalog if interested. We also have new steel hoods in Oxnard Ca. for cheaper shipping.

Fiberglass...

Pros - Very light compared to steel
Cheaper?

Cons - Heavy
More durable

Those are just some basic ones off the top of my head. I'm sure these other guys know a million pros/cons of them :)

if you get a fiberglass hood, just take care of it, it'll last a long time, no rust worries, but then again you have to worry about the cracking, etc.. i dont know how old my hood is, it was on the truck when i bought it, its a harwood, and its starting to crack in some places.

I have a US body 4" Cowl hood, I bought it at least 8 years ago. It's a real piece of sh*t. The finish work is extremely crappy! There is chipping around the edges,( caused from too much resin and not enough glass on the edges) and the underneath is not finished at all. I don't have my digital camera software loaded in this new computer yet, but I'd be more then happy to send pictures of the crappy work they did, when I get it in here. I really don't mean to run your business off Mothertruckers but this work is really bad. And you're only selling them, you didn't make it.

I worked as a fiberglass laminater 20 years ago for a few boat companies and a company that made the extenders for conventional cabs on Big Rigs. We would have been fired if we put out finish work this bad.

I would have returned back when I bought it, but the shipping was so much that it was just as easy money wise to Eat it.

I would really like to have a fiberglass one piece tilt front end, But most definetely not theirs.

Sorry to hear that, We don't sell alot of their parts but the ones we have sold lately are the best I have seen for these trucks. As a fiberglass person you know there is some fareing and fitting and I think they do a pretty good job with after the sale customer relations, I have only been selling and using their parts for a few years and i'm sure the quality must be better now than 8 years ago. I know they retooled alot of their molds over the last 4 years Maybe you could call them and see if they can help in some way on your older part, I'd like to hear their reply.

buy steel. i four wheel so fiberglass is worthless to me. buy a steel hood price is close odds are it will fit better and if you take care of it everything should be fine

No Ed, I haven't. I want to get my digital working with XP, so I can send you and them pictures of just how incomplete the finish work is.

I'll mess with it on my days off, Tue, Wed. Thanks though.

69-72 hoods are pretty darn easy to come by (I've got 3 rust free straight ones myself, and I don't collect parts to sell, just stumbled across them in salty Vermont.). Seems like you could find a used straight rust free one from someone near you for a very reasonable price. Our trucks are heavy to begin with. Is 3,570 pounds with a fiberglass hood really that much different from 3,600 pounds with a stock hood? Weight isn't really a factor in my eyes.

ima use only original body parts bc of the fitment issues. i dont trust aftermarket 1's anymore after i heard some of the stories.

im with stan79chevy on this one. steel might dent or bend, but it will still shut. fiberglass cracks, and that is lame. just look at my infamous "taco" hood. i actually used this hood for more than 2 years. behold the glory of a steel hood.
p.s. Taco Hood for sale...best offer...lol

I have had a fiberglass cowl hood on my 92 fs stepper for about 4 years and haven't really had a problem with it. There is only two things that kind of bothered me , you can't use the stock hood springs, and you need a prop rod . comes with a gray gelcoat and i didn't have to do any trim work

Do the fiberglass hoods have any flex at freeway speeds...?
