View Full Version : Washington State Truck Club Poll
gr8scott51 10-16-2003, 11:31 PM Okay, there are enough of us that seem interested in forming an area club that we need to take some action.
I told Mike that I'd put together a poll for a club name. I only saw a few suggestions and one was mine.
If you don't like the options, give me another.
One option is to join the club that was started earlier by another group from this board. It is home based on Wes' business web page: www.classicheartbeat.com They already have by-laws, etc. established.
Scott
oldiron 10-17-2003, 10:00 AM I will be sending out PM's on Friday night as work kind of frowns on me doing it at work.
cheyenne10 10-17-2003, 10:44 AM I posted following from other thread.
Again I support taking advantage of and joining what has already been started with Classicheartbeat.
Can you beat that name??
I am founding member of club Wes has. He has good start to his club forum, etc. I am from Oregon
but don't think state lines matter. If WA. side is bigger and more active so be it. I know Phillip
Johnson and others in Oregon have expressed some interest in OR. get togethers also. If Wes is ok
with it I would support expanding on his start. I would be interested and help with OR. chapter!!
Most of this would be for rallying folks on get-togethers and support. I'm always looking for good excuse to get out of honey-dos!!

breeh 10-17-2003, 10:57 AM While I think that ClassicHeartbeat is a great name and I like Wes, I don't think that associating the proposed club with a particular vendor is the best route. Of course, this is just my opinion and if the majority votes this direction then so be it.
cheyenne10 10-17-2003, 11:44 AM I had thought of that point and point well taken. I would sure like to see club somehow and would like to see vendor(s) included somehow. We all need them. Would like to hear from Wes and others. I like what Wes started and I know he tries to keep it separate. He does provide us webspace on his site.
Piper71c10 10-17-2003, 12:36 PM I'm not there yet, But I'll definatly join any club that's up and running in WA state. Woo-Hoo. Glad to share an addiction with so many guys.
Piper!
gr8scott51 10-17-2003, 12:51 PM Please see Wes' comments on the link that cheyenne10 listed.
miket 10-17-2003, 05:23 PM Thanks WES. I do agree with Breeh. My selfish hopes were to assemble something Washington based at minimum and meet as often as members deem it reasonable...make the get togethers and events as easy to get to for the population as possible.
We do this with the Puget Sound Super Sport Team and it works well. I am hoping we can assemble a similarly successful and fun club.
Washington Classic GM Truck Club?
Puget Sound 67-72 Club?
chevy71super 10-17-2003, 08:02 PM I'm flexible either way, Wes's or a new club.
LeRoy 10-18-2003, 12:08 AM Sounds like fun. I'm with Breeh and would like to see it as a seperate entity. I don't want it to get out of control and see a bunch of rules and regulations. As for a name, I'd rather have something that includes all Chevy trucks 72 and older. I for one have branched out into the 65-66 period trucks. I'll try and come up with some club names for you-all to chew on
miket 10-18-2003, 12:22 AM This is all up to you guys.....
Orence1 10-18-2003, 04:38 AM Count me in either way. I have no problem with Classic Heartbeat and will support the majority.
Larry
gr8scott51 10-18-2003, 10:43 AM I too would like to include all General Motors Corporation trucks.
I'm not an historian, but the little I read on the history of GMC led me to the name Rapids. The Rapid was one of GM's first trucks and it was the first truck up Pike's Peak.
Reliant was another, but I kept imagining a letterman jacket with RAPs on the back and my truck under the name.
scott
I perfer to keep the club seperate from the vendor also. It would be nice to have a centeral Washington chapter also.
gr8scott51 10-18-2003, 02:10 PM I see six "other" votes, but only 2 other names mentioned. What do you want?
Mechanic 10-18-2003, 02:57 PM Ok...I'm in for a club. All years of GM trucks would be fine with me. I have a '71. Tom.
Orence1 10-19-2003, 01:16 AM O.K., I'll just throw out something here for discussion. How about "Bowtie Haulers"?
miket 10-19-2003, 02:13 PM It looks as though 67-72 GM Trucks of Washington is edging out the competition....
COBALT 10-19-2003, 03:34 PM I remember talking to Wes about his club a couple of years or so ago. It sounded like his club was very well established with founding members sort of already defining the flow and direction. I got the impression that it was sort of tight-knit, but maybe I was wrong...
I think the motivation for starting this is the fact that a few of us have routinely met either at swap meets or at car shows (or our own show for that matter). Right now I'd agree with breeh, LeRoy, and the rest who think it's a good idea to form our own. I don't want exclusive "founding member" status or anything like that. I got into this to work on my truck and have fun. If I loose sight of that and end up spending all my time supporting a club I don't think I'd be having much fun.
Also, I think it would be frustrating to know that you don't have a share of the resources other members have. Lets say on this board we started giving special notice to people who had high posts! Doesn't leave much room for everyone else, or new members does it?
I'll submit my vote.
gr8scott51 10-19-2003, 04:24 PM If it was one vote per post, you'd control the whole thing! Not that that would necccessarily be bad.
devinfife 10-20-2003, 01:09 AM club sounds great. leave the politics out though. as in a bunch of rules.
miket 10-20-2003, 06:05 PM Who hasn't voted yet?
crazy4chevs 10-20-2003, 10:12 PM I'm in, I voted a couple days ago.:D
gr8scott51 10-20-2003, 10:36 PM just GM Trucks of Washington?
Maybe that would satidfy more folks.
scott
Mechanic 10-20-2003, 10:46 PM I second that motion...
723/4tontank 10-20-2003, 10:46 PM I like gr8scott51's Idea of GM Trucks of Washington. I also agree with everyone else on not joining wes's club.
crazy4chevs 10-20-2003, 10:51 PM GM truck club of Washington? sounds alright:D
oldiron 10-20-2003, 10:51 PM Well out of the 56 PM's I sent out 36 of them have been read. That leaves 20 unread and 20 who have not voted on the poll.
How about leaving this poll open until Friday?
Here is the list of members that I sent PM's to.
1970blazin, 1971 Cheyenne, 723/4tontank, crazy4chevs, Dan72cst, gr8scott51, Mechanic, PICKMUP, '72 Shorty, 67pro-street, 67sss, 72Bob, 72heavychevy, autorecycler, Beowolf, Blue Beard, bouncytruck, breeh, Bustedup, CARS4567, Castiron9, Chaptr2, chevy71super, Cheyenne71, COBALT, cped, DanoDMano, darcane, devinfife, drink2mny, Dusti, ElGracho, frankr98290, Gotta71C20, grebus1, GreenMystChevy, Iceman7642, JERZROD, Johns70, JON67, jostrans68, K5KRAZIE, kpf, lazygaurd, leadfoot067, LeRoy, mikep, miket, NPilot1975,

darcane 10-21-2003, 01:31 PM For some reason I can't vote with my account. I get an error every time (with all votes, not just this one):
The action you have attempted could not be performed as your session appears to be invalid. Click the below link to attempt this action again with a new session.
Anyways, I would prefer the GM Trucks of Washington.
Also, I was wondering if you were thinking of a state-wide club or more of a local (mostly King County) club? While being inclusive is great and all, it's not really practical for people in the far corners of the state to come to our meets. I know I won't be going to any that are too far outside of King County.
gr8scott51 10-21-2003, 02:57 PM Look at the profiles and you'll see that I'm in Bremerton (I was at the XXX in Issaquah), oldiron is in Arlington, etc.
I wnat to leave it open to everyone. They may not make all of the events, but I want them to feel welcome at the ones they do attend.
scott
I think GM Trucks of Washington is the one.
Mechanic 10-21-2003, 05:44 PM I actually wouldn't mind a little road time going to a meet every so often.
miket 10-21-2003, 08:36 PM My thought when spawning this idea of the club was state wide...I like the name so far....
bouncytruck 10-23-2003, 04:07 PM Well, I'd like to change my vote in the poll. I voted to join Classicheartbeat just because I'm lazy and it sounded like the easiest thing to do. After reading all the post (I was too lazy to read them before voting), I agree that a separate club is best. Nothing against Wes, I just think it would be nice if all the Washington vendors were able to join. If it was under Wes' company, I doubt if any other vendors would join. That would leave out some very nice rides (ie; Franks 2wd Blazer). The club shouldn't be about vendors anyway, it should be about guys and gals who like trucks.
I also agree to keep it open state wide. That way, even if there are no members (or clubs) around you, you can still be a part of the club and contribute when you can make it to the meets.
LeRoy 10-23-2003, 05:36 PM How about BOWTIE HAULERS then under that, Washington State Chapter. Then our Oregon, Idaho, ect. Brothers and Sisters could be included with the same name but be representing there own state. Having Chapters would make us sound huge, lol
cheyenne10 10-24-2003, 05:43 PM I think Leroy is onto something.
cheyenne10 10-24-2003, 05:46 PM Does anyone know about this club or a member in it?
GM HAULERS
581 LANCASTER DR SE, SUITE 111
SALEM OR 97301
miket 10-25-2003, 05:25 PM Washington members what are your thoughts?
gr8scott51 10-25-2003, 05:31 PM Not to be an elitist, but I think keeping it a state club is a better idea. There are enough Oregon members for their own club (looks like they already have one available to them).
GM Trucks of Washington
Scott
jostrans68 10-25-2003, 11:00 PM I voted Rusted Bowties cause I suggested it. But any thing is great. I like Wes's Classic Heartbeat but understand concerns of being affiliated with a vendor since there are several up here.
Do we want to stay with the 67-72 trucks? then if we do
67-72 GM Trucks of Washington Maybe?
stllookn 10-26-2003, 01:26 AM Pacific Northwest GM Trucks or Northwest GM Classic Trucks could work too. This would allow just about anyone to join from western rockies to the Oregon guys if they wanted. It would rule out our hoser friends though, since the ones closest to us are really in SW Canada.
Dennis...why did you leave me off your list?
miket 10-26-2003, 10:32 AM I would like to close this out by next week...meaning decide on a name and move ahead.
I would like to contain this to Washington. If we want to expand later thats fine but for now I would just like to get this plane off the ground.
So far the vote shows the 67-72 GM Trucks of Washington as the leader....so unless someone says "NAY", I would like to move ahead with that being our new club name.
gr8scott51 10-26-2003, 10:46 AM Let it be so.
leadfoot067 10-26-2003, 12:39 PM i voted when i got the pm however many days ago that was...cant remember how i voted though:rolleyes: ...for me the idea of a club is to make friends and have fun...seems like thats whats happenin.....name really doesnt matter to me...i do think it should be its own entity though not a part of something already established...i dont personally have the time to be anything more than a basic member....the ideas ive seen so far look good to me.... thats my .02 cents worth...
miket 10-27-2003, 12:18 PM Last call.......bueller.....anyone.....anyone?
oldiron 10-27-2003, 11:23 PM Well looks like we have 28 people interested in starting a club. How about a meeting before Thanksgiving? Any ideas?
LeRoy 10-28-2003, 12:56 AM 67-72 GM Trucks of Washington is fine but would look funny in sticker form on my 66. How about simply Classic GM trucks of Washington. Whatever the name, I'd like to display it on all my trucks so as to attract new members or provide an ice breaker for discussion
miket 10-28-2003, 10:28 AM Good point. Any opinions?
gr8scott51 10-28-2003, 12:12 PM Let's just decide that the name is Classic GM Trucks of Washington.
Okay Mike?
miket 10-28-2003, 12:14 PM All votes are in.....and the new club name is....(drum roll please.....)
Classic GM Trucks of Washington
Lets get a meeting date decided....when and where?
oldiron 10-28-2003, 12:51 PM How about at the Triple X in Issaquah. On any Sunday afternoon.
gr8scott51 10-28-2003, 01:13 PM I'll be trying to sell junk at the 35th annual Bremerton Auto Swap Meet at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, sponsored by the Olympic Vintage Auto Club.
(Gratuitous plug for a local event isn't it?)
scott
miket 10-28-2003, 01:25 PM I started a new thread for the meeting dates and locations.....
is2blu 10-28-2003, 05:44 PM hey guys, It sounds like you have a great start on a club. I am not anywhere close to Wa but I would be happy to help in any way I could. I have served as president of the Genuine Chevy GMC truck club of KC since 1996 and we have grown from about 10 members to 180 currently in 5 different states. Please feel free to check out our website: chevygmcofkc.org and if I can help I would be happy to. Good Luck, clubs can be great. Keep on truckin' gaileen
miket 10-28-2003, 05:56 PM Hey thanks!
is2blu 10-28-2003, 06:07 PM no problem you can email me at gaileen@chevygmcofkc.org
Orence1 10-29-2003, 10:21 AM XXX would be great if the weather is good. I am a school teacher at Bellevue Christian High School in Bellevue. We have a lot of parking lot space and plenty of indoor space. If there is interest in meeting indoors during the winter months I think I could arrange it at no charge. Just a thought.
Larry
stllookn 10-29-2003, 10:54 AM ORENCE1, has a good point. It would be nice to meet somewhere where there is room to do some work indoors that has compressors etc. The local Mustang club has tech meetings at members houses or the local Ford Dealership where they will do a rebuild on a rearend or some other technical project on a members vehicle. I know this can be a logistical pain but could be helpful and informative for everyone as well. I just rented 2,500 sq. ft. in a 25,000 sq. ft. building that is mostly vacant. There is a Bridgeport mill and welder there and lots of vacant space. It would be easy to hold a meeting there and do a project as long as we respected the other tennant...he is a Chevelle guy! The nice thing is the ability to drive in and work out of the rain. Now oldiron has one of the nicest shops I have ever seen with an overhead lift etc. I would not suggest we all trash his place but that overhead is very cool! Depending on the tech session we may vary the location. If anyone wanted to get a quick primier on body work we could go to ORENCE1's place and watch him do some body work on his truck that he will be starting this winter. I will have a cab on a rotisserie as soon and Mr. Toyota gets out of my garage. These kind of sessions can be informative and fun.
Just a thought!
miket 10-29-2003, 11:01 AM Along with Orence's and stllookin's idea, I am a member of the Puget Sound SS group....we have "Mod Days" that are hosted by a shop in donwtown Seattle. They have a welder, compressor, lift and so on. In fact they build headers there for the Impala SS's. Enough room for one or two trucks inside and quite a few outside. They have agreed to support us if we want to have it there however....
I would like our first meeting to be a "meeting" just to discuss everyone's thoughts and ideas for the club...obviously show our trucks as we did at XXX. We can follow that up with a "Mod Day" where ever everyone would like. This way everyone can plan for it and bring tools and parts to get their respective work done.
just my two cents.
stllookn 10-29-2003, 11:35 AM Looks like you have the lead on this one. It would be nice to pick a time and place that would yield the best attendance.
miket 10-29-2003, 11:39 AM It's up to you guys.....let's just decide in a reasonable time frame so we can get together soon for our inaugural meeting.
Orence1 10-29-2003, 09:36 PM All of the suggestions sound great. I would second the idea of picking a target date to set up an some type of basic structure. What about 11/9 or 11/16 using the Sunday afternoon idea? Any later and we get into the holiday season.
miket 10-29-2003, 10:27 PM Hey guys for the meeting dates and locations I started a thread specific to this...It's here (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=74763)
ElGracho 10-31-2003, 02:02 AM I know I'm a day late and a dollar (well...several dollars) short, but are there limits on the years that are considered "Classic"? does my 1975 Gentleman Jim or 1980 Indy Hauler fit the bill for the interests of this club?
Mechanic 10-31-2003, 08:12 PM I'm interested...love to see ya there Gracho.
