Just wondering if anyone has used these paint guns before or if they are any good. I really want to get a nice gun because I really want to start painting vehicles. I have never painted before but I really want to get good tools to start. Anyone have some opinions for me.

yup, all the time at work (machine shop that builds trackmobiles)
if they are any good
for industrial paint that looks like crapno matter what you spray it with, and they dont last at all. parts break all the time
I really want to get a nice gun because I really want to start painting vehicles.
stay away from harbor freight, craftsman, or anytool company for that matter. if you want a good gun get a devilbliss, sharpe, or iwata. i have an astro that was good enough for me for 2 years that i bought for 100 bucks, but it doesnt compare to the good ones.
[/list] . I have never painted before
pick up a cheap harbor freight one for spraying primer and practicing, make sure to learn how to clean it.
I really want to get good tools to start
get a good gun the first time. if you know that you want to do it then just make the investment now, and dont waste your time with the junk like i did.

Bowtiefreak, i've got one that i shoot primer with. Thats the only thing i shoot with it and wouldnt even think about using it as a finish gun. If your serious about this, spend the money on a quality gun. Dont try to learn using a cheapo gun, it will just make it that much harder! Good Luck !!

before buying any spray gun make sure you know how much air your compressor provides alot of the higher-end guns require ALOT of air and 5hp or less aircompressors won't provide enough air to power the gun

I have a 6.5hp/ 60 gallon upright compressor 220v (Coleman) Is that enough?

there should be a tag on the compressor stating CFM (cubic feet per minute) have that info when looking at guns to make sure your cfm's are enough to power the gun

Ive looked at them nice huskys for 100 well 99 dollars i woudlnt waste my money i bet in 3 years you cant get rebuilt kits for them anymore.
For 167 locally i can get a nice cobalt sharpe Gravitiy feed And a good gun and im sure rebuild kits will be around as long as it lasts. Ive got an antique sharpe i can still get kits for.
Binks and devibliss are good too.

i spray bikes everday, have painted the presidential limosines to airplanes-mostly airshow planes. check out my webpage for samples www.art4urhog.com to show quality of my work. i took 2 bikes to Easyriders -Memphis last yr took 1 & 3pl, Chicago Supercycle show took 1 & 2pl. Not to brag but show i do top quality work & know what i'm talking about. i never had a shop class in my life, learned out of a garage, but got a job making limo's. i learned from guys doing prototype cars for GMC & Chrysler, many are pictured in shop tech books u got in school. most any gun that has enough air (i use 8hp 2stage 80gal comp.)to shoot consistant flow of paint, can adjust air & paint volume, can be made to shoot a good paint job. it is the painter that needs to adjust to conditions on a daily basis. test panels are the most important part of a paint job. if u can't get a pattern & even overlaps on test ur finish job will show it darker base & shinier u make it the more it shows. u must learn to adjust whatever gun u have to produce glass like finish with no runs /sags. u walk the fence of getting it wet without too much. i have a bunch of binks accumulated from 60's on, Sata jet & hvlp2000, iwatas, & harbor frt - centrals. always get tech sheet (most available on line or at ur paint dealer) shows Nozzle Size! air pressure! to use(with trigger pulled) distance to hold gun from work & proper ratio! for reducing paint. these are starting points u adjust from there based on day humidy temp.etc. i will work helping any of you wanting it/ will mentor u by walking u step by step thru a job : email me thru my pm or webpage email.
BOTTOM LINE i have done 1st place show winning paint jobs with $50 gun as well as $500 guns, that everyone says don't need rub out so smooth. learn on good cheaper gun & paint everything u can till u master it- than buy whatever one feels good to u. same thing with airbrushes. any tool is only as good as the guy using it!
