The detail man just told me not to be in too much of a rush to replace the molding ,because the paint is still drying .they used PPG Urethane .
How long should I wait?

At least 72 hours. Your best bet would to wait a couple of weeks before you put your trim back on. Better to be safe than sorry.

bahhh

i work in a body shop, and although im no expert (i tear stuff apart, and mix paint only) they always put molding/emblems on like 3 hors after spraying the last coat. they do use heat lamps though.

If the paint has been forced dried then after cool down is fine.
If the paint was allowed to air dry like most of the cars we spray its over night.

Ive NEVER seen a moulding or stripe fall off yet. Plus these are glue on moulding not your clip on moulding.

If bodyshops waited hours to replace the mouldings and stripes they'd have cars backed up for miles...Eric

I understand that body shops have to do things in a way that is most profitable for them, not necessarily the best way. I'm not an expert personally, but I was told by a guy at Line-x that I'd have to let a new paint job cure for 30 days before they would tape it off to spray on bed liner. My body man concurred that would give maximum hold to the paint. That's a pretty good indication of what is best in terms of the paint reaching it's maximum toughness, and it sounds like that is what you're looking for.

yes you should wait as long as possible to let the paint cure, but in all reality, if you're putting on mldgs with clips youre gonna scratch the finish regaurdless of paint cure. If it was a restoration then I'd wait as long as convienent, if it's a collision-few hours.

when I painted the door on my truck I didnt have any weather stripping in the door jams for a couple days so I just glued a couple peices of styafome in. I let the doors harden for a week and a half but when I shut the door where the fome was rubbing it tore the paint off. so let them harden for a min of 2 weeks.
