I waded through 6 inches of mud today on a junk yard crawl and found 2 blazers and a 72 GMC surburban. What I found interesting is front bumer guards on the surburban and the two blazers that had bucket seats but no consoles.

What is the difference between the seats designed for the blazers and those for the trucks?

Thanks
Brian

Truck buckets sit on a bench style frame while blazer bucket are there own seperate seats, I think. But maybe the truck buckets change through the years.

there are 2 kinds of truck buckets, 67-68 and 69-72. 69-72 are basicaly the same as the blazer seats. the 67-68 are a lil bit harder to find and are a little more versatile, IMO, and can seat 3 ppl if necessary.

There are two different kinds of buckets in blazers....Regular and utility....the regular ones are the same as the trucks but the passenger side bracket is different.....the utility ones have metal backs and are wider...you probably would not want these for a truck....you can't use a console with them

The main difference between regular bucket seat blazer seats and truck seats is the brackets that mount the seat on. Heres a pic of blazer seat mounts.

The sliding type right side ones are used in both truck and blazer,
its the pasenger side brackets which are different between trucks and blazers.

Blazer brackets below

Heres a pic of 69-72 regular buckets... you can tell what year the buckets are from by there shape as compared to the auxillary blazer buckets. These seats are from 69 0r 70 ... a little tip via the single scrolled pattern in the seat upholstery. 71-72 would have 2 scrolls... not all buckets had upholstery with scrolls though.

Anyway here is a pic of regular truck buckets with the correct seat brackets for a truck. Note the metal passenger side ones.. there fixed to the floor and the bucket and do not move or allow seat to slide forward as the drivers side brackets do. Again I'll say the drivers side brackets are the same in trucks and blazers using regular type buckets.

oh might as well posts some 67 -68 type truck buckets... these are 67 ... you can tell by the wider pattern stitching than a 68.

mine has a bench type pipe frame and the center console raises to make a center seat with a storage compartment under that, but i got it from the PO, said it was out of a blazer so i cant tell you any history on it

And you might come across a 67-68 suburban set of buckets... I want a set of these if you find it.. I only need the center console if possible....if someone wants to trade consoles from a 67-68 truck for a suburban console I can do that also.

My 72 GMC has a bench. I would like some factory buckets and I like the 67-68 style the best as I sometimes need to carry 3 people. Will the 67-68 bucket seat brackets line up with the holes in the floor where my bench seat was mounted, or will I need to drill some new holes?

What about the holes on 69-72 bucket seat mounts - will they line up? I am guessing I would need to drill mounting holes for the inside tracks, but maybe not the outside tracks?!?

Any advice appreciated.

Duff

They outside holes should line up Duffy... and yes you need inside mounting holes drilled... there are actually little pieces of what appears to be small channel iron under the floor that had nuts welded to them originally.

I stuck this in the faq area also.. since it seems a pretty good post on buckets and I had some time to day to do it.. I've done this before also...many times...lol.

It's pretty hard with dial up to load all these pics never mind view it also.

My 70 Jimmy came with utility buckets and a console. It's probably true that you rarely find a Utility/console combo and the utility seats are not very desirable, you can actually use a console with them. :)

Hey Rod. How goes it? How do you tell the difference between a 250 and a 292 Six. Thanks, Mike.

The motor mounts on the 292 should be staggered while the 250's are straight across from each other IIRC.

Just found out the same.I have a question. The Blazer seats/brackets work in trucks, they just can flip forward but not needed in a truck, right? So,with gas tank moved to Blazer location, this could give hand access to behind the seat, right?Prolly wanna get the latch off the Blazer to secure the seat in the truck, though.
