The sleeves for the leaf packs were rusted like this one shown, so I made some new ones out of extra bushings laying around.

After water tubing with the kids and their friends, I only got one thing done today regarding Dolly...here I put the front differential on jack stands, in preparation for cleaning, painting and replacing worn parts. It was a small thing, but it felt good as it begins a new stage in the trucks transformation. Hopefully, more to come soon!

Today I started test fitting some new parts. Here is a steering stabilizing shock. This piston is supposed to be 4 1/2 inches exposed when it is set initially.

I was removing the steering link between the two spindles when something caught my eye… I guess I will not be cleaning this part. The Blue Beast must’ve been in a collision… And now I think back to the welded leaf spring mounts earlier in the build. I’ll have to find something different.

Using a flap disk, I begin cleaning the differential… And the tab tells the story, 4.55 gear ratio. Tomorrow I have to crawl underneath Dolly and check what the gear ratio is. I do not recall if there is a tab located there, or not. Could I be so lucky? It would be a fantastic day if these gears matched up. I am not too worried...one way or the other I’ll get it matched up.

This is where I left it for the night… I’ll keep plugging away on it tomorrow.

I’ve been communicating with LMC about Fawn colored dash pads and seat covers for weeks and today the word came that they do not have any plans of offering this color...(the most common interior color for 1967 GM trucks)...bummer.

Check with Cooper Restorations. I know they offer Fawn for the buddy buckets (it may not be a perfect match, but is close). I may have asked same question of them, some time ago...

Couldn’t find a quick replacement...so why not try and fix the collision damage.

Using my press, I placed the apex of the convex bend on center; placed the ends on some homemade 4 wheeler ramps (angled toward the base of the press) and went to work. The pics show the pressure being applied...

Let’s say I’m satisfied with the outcome.

Got the ends off by first using the “heat” wrench and then a conventional pipe wrench.

My son came to help out to speed up the transformation of Dolly...his goal is to wrap up the Dumptruck project so we can get after the 68 shortbox that’s up on the rack...I’m ALL for it!

Here, he’s using a flap disc to clean up miscellaneous parts, preparing for paint.

I think you helped me out before with this info...I seem to recall that the price was pretty high $$$...but I will check with them, as I could be wrong. Thanks for the contact.👍

Great setup on that press.
I like it.
Use what you have to the Maximum Capacity .:metal:
Glad to see your son there .
That's what got me where I am today.
My Daddy showed me stuff that I treasure to this day.

I don’t know why it didn’t dawn on me earlier regarding the press, but when you can’t find easy/cost effective replacements, you have to come up with something. Thanks!

I really enjoyed having my son hang out with me out there in the garage.

I did some painting of chassis parts...so while waiting for them to dry, (humidity was up today) I replaced a bad solenoid and put my dump box switch into the cab. As I was deciding where to drill the hole, I briefly thought (must have had a wild hair) to make sure it would be high enough to leave room for an AC vent...I highly doubt I’d put AC into Dolly...but I made room anyway. This work is small in the overall scheme of things, but it needed to be done.
