What did you do to prep the inner fenders for the satin black? just sand or sand blast? I may have missed it.

Great work!

Thanks the new inner fenders were just sanded and sprayed . I had to cover a few spots with primmer on bare metal before painting it with chassis saver black to seal, then a paintable rubberized rocker guard, sanded between paint and stone guard so it stays on. Same as the stuff you posted. Don't use the asphalt spray undercoating as it's not paintable and doesn't dry. The outer fenders inners are painted with auto paint.

You know we're going to ask what those were out of , fit like they were made for 67-72! Thanks for the great picture too.

I wish I knew, I bought them at a swap meet for 5 bucks and they fit perfect. I drilled the two mount holes and the bar had the holes in the to slip over the top lock bar. It was total luck they fit like this. I would say they came from mid 80's gm car.

I was going to ask what the rod came from, but that actuator is from basically 80's GM vehicle, as you already said. Now I see I won't have to do much fiddling to make the locks work, I just need to find the connector for the actuators and I am in business

I started grinding out the chips and surface rust, now I've got to paint the spots I touched up, which is the whole inside panel on both. So out with the glass, trim, and latch.

Excellent visit, glad you could use the parts. It's nice to see there is passion in all ages to build not only trucks but all makes of rides. I just talked to my buddy that's 17 and renewing a 68 and is looking for stuff as well. Thanks Cunuckvetter and the same back at ya. I will be driving this soon, fingers crossed.

Wiring is not an easy process and is a pita. I made a list of options I wanted then added each circuit, crossed it off the list and carried on. I tried to break up the time and do other stuff at the same time. Nothing is impossible.
Thanks Derek

Got the rad saddle cleared to keep all the black parts the same color of satin black. Blasted and painted most of the fenders hardware, I know I'll find more. 5 gal stir sticks work great for the bolts Easy to hold for blasting and painting.

Thanks it turned out real nice , on the first try and a first time for me. I'm too cheap to pay people to do this or to buy it.

I just found out all my masking paper in the pics, the red colored stuff, is meat packing paper. Stuff works great and I got the roll at a garage sale for 2 bucks and still have half left.

Fenders ready to hang. Needle painted with nail polish in the emblems. This color looks perfect and has a bit of pearl in it to look transparent. Redid the black strip in the trim. It's the little things.

Re: 67 long box

Haha gotta love the ironic choice in nail polish name.

Sometimes cracking one of these trucks open feels like exactly that.

This whole build has been a challenge, But fun, I'm close to 1000 hours under in now and not done yet. I just wanted to get it pass a safety to full on resto. Every piece I took off needed something done to it. Russian roulette yup should I replace it, paint it, cover it, leave it, blast it, nos piece, repop piece or should I make it. I do have to say that color has the right red to orange hue looks factory coated.

It is looking purdy. Had to check seat to shifter to dash clearance so I had to toss the dash in and wheel on. It felt good sitting in there.
