Re: Serious Black
Scott,
Thanks! I still have some small things that need to be addressed, but it's mostly finished ( but we all know projects are never really done, right😜) I have a guy at my work who has a laser engraver, he's going to cut out some emblems from my scrap mother of pearl from my dash for the centers of my rally wheels that have the bow tie cut out, should go with the dash color scheme..... Thanks again! Ben :metal: Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Serious Black
Josh,
Thank you! I still have a few small things I need to finish up, but it's mostly done. I'm trying to decide on a "Vanity plate" for it, I've narrowed it down to five choices, but one is almost better than the next. Thanks again for the compliment! Ben :metal: Posted via Mobile Device |

went to a local car show today, lots of entries at this one, and I didn't walk away with anything this time, oh well. seems it was easier to "Buy" a new muscle car or truck and get an award than it was for "building it" guess they were "Biased"......:lol::lol::lol:
I did hear many compliments for my dash design with the "Mother of Pearl Drum Wrap" lots of ooohhh's and Aahhhhh's could be heard. I am still having the darnedest luck keeping my rear view mirror on the windshield........seems every time I hit Second gear, it fly's off the windshield at me.....talk about embarrassing!:lol::lol::lol: guess I should be thanking my Brother-in-law for building such a stout transmission!!! Well, have a great weekend! Ben |
Re: Serious Black
I'd pick your truck any day over any brand new car there. Even though you didn't win anything, I'm sure it makes you smile everytime you get in your truck knowing you put it all together by yourself.

Re: Serious Black
Scott,
Yeah, I wasn't impressed with all the new cars and trucks they were awarding. There were different classes, but they had to have been biased. The gave one guy an award for a new Ford Focus that had custom paint and powder coated rims that matched, and they gave an award for the best station wagon...a 74 Pinto wagon, I was ready to walk out right then. And these guys want me to join their club.... Yeah right Have a good one! Ben :metal: Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Serious Black
Thanks for the Kudo's!!! I have a few more shows to go in the next couple of weeks before I get slammed with a lot of overtime, and won't be able to get around that, but, that's a good thing, as we want to go to Hawaii for Vacation this Spring. Since I spent six years there, I know where to go and not blow a fortune doing things we want to do.
I didn't expect to go to every show and bring home something, but the judges must have had their favorites before hand...oh well. You would think that something someone built from the ground up vs. bought off the showroom floor would have some bearing on the judging, but that's how it goes.... Have a great Day! Your truck looks awesome Ben. The mother of pearl inlay looks awesome, the blue interior accents really compliments the interior look.

Re: Serious Black
Scott,
Thanks for the kind words! even though I didn't win anything, and let face it, with all the competition out there, you cant win something every time! I enjoyed seeing some early iron and striking up conversation with other owners, and the owner of that C10 that was stolen at a shopping center in Kansas, hearing his story was heart wrenching, and my wife thinks I'm paranoid about safeguards......I need to get my insurance upgraded asap!!! hope all is well out there at your end, and Vic's father is doing better! Talk to you later! Ben :metal: |

Scott,
Yeah, just getting the "thumbs up" or watching people speed up or slow down to check it out gives you a big Grin! Thanks again! Glad you finally got to see it! Ben :metal: |
Re: Serious Black
okay, been a while since I posted so here goes. ever since we started our maintenance schedule at work, early September. I haven't been able to do much, but I'm slowly getting to it.
Just changed my heater core, still need to run the hoses for the ducts, the vibration issue I had took some work, but I got that ironed out this past Saturday. I ended up doing way more than needed, but I wanted to be thorough, and not miss anything. I found my driveline angles were off, so I had to drop the differential and add some 2 degree pinion shims between the trailing arms and the differential mounting pads to point the pinion downward. I also felt some excessive backlash in my ring and pinion, so I opened up the differential cover and took a dial indicator reading, once I grabbed the ring gear, I felt some abnormal movement of the carrier, upon closer inspection, I didn't shim the bearing races tight enough, allowing the carrier to move side to side. after juggling the shims around, I finally got .007" backlash and since I had to remove my axles and seals, I replaced them as well just to be sure no leaks and or possible bearing issues. long story short, the drive home was smooth, and I took it up to 90 MPH, no vibration problems, mission accomplished!!! I have some more to do on Saturday, will keep you posted... Have a good one! Ben :metal: |
