Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
Man my thread was back on page 4. I have been slacking. Had some truck time today and also spent about 4 hours talking truck with 66customcab. Studied a lot of things on his truck to see how they came from the factory. Got a real good idea of where to tape off on the front grill for the white, black and blue. I also discovered I have a Custom cab bench seat by the extra springs mine has. Same as his. Very cool getting to meet him and his truck today.
After he left cleaned the shop real good and started masking off the white and getting ready to spray the Midnight Blue. Very excited. It was 60* today and this coming week we have 3-4 days we are suppose to hit 70* so I want to have the bottom part of the cab ready to go. Unmasked everything and pleasantly surprised to have no overspray of white onto the California Suede Metallic. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7596/...f4b9056f_b.jpg20150307_160530 by bjohnson388, on Flickr The masking tape I bought is pretty awesome. Even for an amateur like me I got really good crisp lines. And the tape is see through which I didn't understand and first but now I do. It lets you see the previous tape line easy to see when you are masking to spray the second color. Awesome. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7639/...7b664d50_b.jpg20150307_160557 by bjohnson388, on Flickr I also got the back cab wall sanded so I can reshoot it. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7618/...a8840bb1_b.jpg20150307_160610 by bjohnson388, on Flickr https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8640/...b6119f85_b.jpg20150307_164814 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Also had a bonfire and burned all the tree trimming from a couple weeks ago. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8659/...596b146f_b.jpgIMG_5247 by bjohnson388, on Flickr |

Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
A quick question on the primer. Does everyone sand the primer everywhere before applying the base coat or SS?
|
Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
Ron
The sealer primer shot right before color has to be wet. I let it flash for about 15 min before the color |

Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
I know everyone is probably tired of seeing primered pics but these are the last ones. I shot 2 coats of high build and fixed a bunch of little pinholes and bad places with glazing putty yesterday. It is suppose to hit 69* today. Just need to block and wipe down and shoot some BLUE!!!
There are a few places at the bottom where the original gas tank brackets were pulled out that I didn't get perfect but you will never see these once the bed is on there. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8624/...80c72ced_b.jpg20150310_141939 by bjohnson388, on Flickr I am very proud of my rocker replacement. Not too bad for an amateur. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7620/...730767bb_b.jpg20150310_141931 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Back of the cab looks straight in this picture. It is Hot Rod Flatz from TCP Global. After I saw 62 Barnfind's truck he lead me to it. The California Suede Metallic in my opinion looks awesome in the interior. I reshot the back interior cab wall and decided to spray the dash again as I wasn't happy with it. Both came out great. So I can finally say the cab is 100% finished painting inside and out. Now to order some poly cab mounts, brake lines and get the cab married back to the frame. I feel like it will start to roll down hill from here. I picked up some of the Peel N Seal from Lowes. Looks like I will need about 3 rolls to do the inside of the cab. Also going to make me a new cab lift based off of Martin's. 3 more days of vacation. Have to slide as much truck time in as possible. |
Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
That looks fantastic! It must feel great to be at this point in the build. Can't wait to see more.
