Here is my project, just started the other day, I got the 70' burb last summer and couldn't decide what to do with it, it's pretty rough all lower panels are completely rusted out, the frame was bent, and beat up quite bad. it had been sitting for ten years in a grassy field, I traded another truck which I basically got for free, so the burb doesn't owe me anything so far. I pulled the body off the frame and rolled a frame from a 86' 1/2 ton 4x4 under. the pic shows basically how it is going to sit on the body after my mounting mods are complete. it is a bit high but the pic looks even more so because of the tiny 215/75/r16 tires, most of the weight is still on the hoist also has no engine/trans/transfercase yet, so it will drop a fair bit i think, going to get another 6 inch suspension lift down the road anyway.

Re: Let's see some Burbans!
Did u alter the wheel base in any way, Im in process of doing same switch to my 68 & i moved the rear axle forward 4 " to mate up with the 127"
on the Burb? Look's like a Good Start................ Rick |
Re: Let's see some Burbans!
I haven't shortened the wheel base yet, I am starting with the body mounting, did you just move the spring perchs ahead to make up for the 4"? Doesn't look to bad kinda getting used to drilling, grinding and hammering rivets out anyway, lol.
I am in the process of moving the rad support mounts back 2" and mounting the original ones from the burb. then I plan to use the ones I removed from the 4x4 frame as the first cab mounts moved 2" forward. looks like everything will fit but i need to add another reinforced brace for the front spring perch(it was part of the old mount i took off). I am actually kinda curious how it will look with the extended wheel base, maybe I will modify a sideways teardrop wheel opening and leave the axle where it is as long as i put big enough tires on to make it look like a hotwheels toy. |
Re: Let's see some Burbans!
That's all i did was move hangers forward....................
Way that's setting now look's like u could get about 35's on it with no more Lift, Think i will go with 4' lift & 33's on mine. Most of my project is just stuff i have sitting around, Just a low buck build |

Whats left of my suburban - Narrowed 20" at the grille, 30" at the rear, shortened about 28". I've had it for about 7 years now and it just gets smaller all the time. Started out a super rusty $600 project and I think that was the cheapest part yet. |

Did you use a template for your camo paint job? I've got a 71 3/4 4X4 which was camo'd out with paint cans. Need to redo her with a real camo pattern or ? |
Re: Let's see some Burbans!

Before and after paint pictures.
I had the antenna base nob removed from behind gas cap, all mirror holes filled in. I have not figured out my side view mirror replace yet, I may go with the little ones I see on some trucks, that mount towards top of vent window, till then I will keep looking over my shoulder a lot. Mechanically all I have done is baught good plug wires, cap and rotor,... that alone was night and day difference, I have checked all fluids for full and color. A guy I know sold me a complete set of 94" chevy steel wheels with all caps , rings and lug nuts for 10$. I may just go with the wheels with out caps, rings, just to have more tire options. One post on this site said the off set was goofy so I have to think it through, I have found a good set of tires in 16.5 though,so we will see. the previous owner took really good care of it so I have time to drive it and enjoy it. I did notice at some point the pass. side front door was replced, ( no tell tale screw below vent window ) but door works great and I think of this site when ever I look at it. lol. thanks for listening. p.s this sub will never, ever see road salt again life is good, kent |
Re: Let's see some Burbans!
p,ss ... I also have a wild hair idea to have buddy buckets front and rear in white leather, but that may just be the good coffe talking.
