Re: Silver Dollar
I wonder if you could get a proprotioning valve from a similiar vehicle, maybe a 90 SS truck or something with 4 wheel disk brakes and use that for your application? Good luck, you have done a great job.

I removed that rubber plug. and drilled and taped the hole to a 6-32 used a set screw with a little thread sealer/locker and then filled the rest with epoxy. I'll wait for that to set up and try again. |
Re: Silver Dollar
Sorry its taken me so long to get back to the truck, with the kids and the wife off for the holidays, its hard to get anything done on it. but I did get to work on those damn brakes this weekend, and I think I got it. as you know i pluged the stupid rubber thingy that was leaking all the time, replaced a cracked line and have had to re tighten every connection I made. This time I had to bleed the master again, and took the proportion valve apart one more time here are some photos of that. this time I did it still hooked up to the M/C
with everything out of the valve you can see right through it. http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4854.jpg next was the main plunger, stick it in and make sure that concaved part is right in line with the switch hole http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4856.jpg then goes in the rear spring thing http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4857.jpg then the front one, followed by the nut and washer. http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4858.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4859.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4860.jpg then the switch http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4861.jpg and finally the rear line adapter, and screw in the line http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4862.jpg ok, now its time to see if they work with out leaking. started bleeding in the rear, got some air out, wife says the pedal is getting firm. Then it went down to nothing. Im thinking, what the hell now. Check the proportioning valve, its not leaking, WTF! I pulled the cap off. out of fluid. SOB filled it back up and a quick on the truck bench bleed and were back in business . finally got all the air out. then she says they feel firm and then go soft. we bleed them again, no air. firm then soft. well we played this game for a few more minutes. I could see the rear calipers working. I spun the rear rotor while she slowly applied the brake, they grabbed fairly quickly. when I let go, she said it went soft again. Then I noticed it, the calipers were clamping hard enough to move the other end of the rotor out and thats what she was feeling. The pedal wasn't going soft it, would just move down a little from the rotor moving back and forth. I took a lug nut and tightens up the rotor to simulate the wheel being bolted on and the problem was fixed. check everything again no leaks and it looks like everything is working. will see if she stops under her own power in a few days. tomorrow Im working on the door panels |
Re: Silver Dollar
Really nice prop valve break-down. I know a lot of us really appreciate the effort it took to post that in such detail.

Door panels:
I pop rivet the chrome trim on because my new panels were thicker than the orginals and they wouldn't fit. http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4828.jpg When I had my seat redone I had the guy make me some door panels to match my seat. there held on at the bottom with 1/4-20 chrome allen head bolts http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4830.jpg Found some cool handles and cranks at a street rod show. unfortunatly I had to do some modifications to them to make the, not so rickity. http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4836.jpg each piece is held on with set screws, so I counter sunk each piece, and tapped it out to a bigger screw, so the set screw would hold real good and not turn inside the other. http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4834.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4865.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4866.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4867.jpg I wanted something a little diffrent the the stock armrests. It turns out the the 55- to sixty something bolt right on in the stock location and look like a custom piece http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4869.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4840.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4841.jpg pardon my mess http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4873.jpg |

I would think about 25 - 30K in CA, but I think you guys are a little lower in other parts of the country.

Re: Silver Dollar
Man, nice work on the door panels. That is really cool about those arm rests, thanks for that info! Congrats on getting your brake issues resolved and good luck with getting it buttoned up.

Hey Rhino have you had a chance to fill this thing up at the gas station yet? Curious to see if you have any issues getting the nozzle in their with that bend in the fuel filler.

Re: Silver Dollar
I Finally got that new windshield in. It took hours yesterday, putting it in and then having it pop out. we, my wife and the neighborer, must have done that 20 times yesterday and used half a jar of vasoline, and still never got. The wife say forget it lets pay someone to come put it in. I thought to myself bull****. I didnt just build 99% of this truck to have some A-hole come and put it in in 5 min and make me look like a idiot. so i did what any self respecting man would do. Pleaded with the wife to come out and pull my rope again today. after about 4 times it went in. It didnt pop out. Nor did I break it. :metal:
I got the cowl panel and the antenna on today too. tomorrow hopefully I will get the dash pad and the seat in. Man it feels good to get that windshield in. I dont have any pics of the install. my photographer didn't want to stop watching Sponge bob or Scobby Do or whatever it was she was into. But I though id post some pics of what it looks like as of today. http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4915.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4916.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4914.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4920.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4912.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4908.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4909.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4918.jpg |
