Sweet! I guess your motor likes a little back pressure...:). Do you have the part number for the wire?

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Any idea what's going on? We both know you should have been UP on power not down!
Is there a fuel stability issue there in the fuel your running? |

Marv, I don't think it is a stability issue, I think it is a design flaw in my exhaust system. The cut outs are on the straight portion of the y. They are 3" cut outs but the hole is actually 2.5" so there is a 1/4" lip. 3" means they bolt to a 3" collector. I am wondering if the lip is causing a weird reversion pulse. Won't really know for sure as I am expecting a new set of headers. Sure hope they fit. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
It has been almost a year since I have taken the truck for a ride, but I did this sat and sun. Since I had it on the dyno I:
Fixed vacuum pump Swapped to 2" headers adjusted my power enrichment. Multiplier for wide open throttle I stood on it yesterday and all I can say is WOW. Fueling is right where it should be, there is no traction in low gear even from a roll and rolling in to the throttle. Once in se@ond and wide open, this thing flat out fly's. Noy sure if it will be enough to go 9's on motor, but I think it will definately be faster than the 10.5x before. Posted via Mobile Device |

That's BAD A Shaun. Congrats.
I busted my timing belt last Sunday. Bent all the valves and push sticks. Posted via Mobile Device |

Graph to come later..
540rwhp on motor 650rwhp with a 57n/35f jet 710rwhp with a 70n/42f jet Both n20 tunes a little fat Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Correction, forgot SAE correction..
516rwhp is on motor 615rwhp is with a 57n/35f jet set up 687rwhp is with a 70n/42f jet set up Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Well once you put all those fiberglass parts you mentioned a while back on it you should be able to hit the 9's. Are you, were you going to move the radiator to the rear?

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
By the way, open exhaust netted more power this time. I figured out my flaw with the other exhaust system.

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
What was the flaw?
|
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
The cut out placement put the exhaust exit 12" in front of the flat spot on the front of the muffler. I think it was causing a pressure wave to bounce off the muffler at WOT. Basically causing reversion and the two pulses were colliding not allowing the exhaust to move from the pipe freely.
I go to the track on Friday though :) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Well???? do we have any more track results?

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Sorry guys, not every track outing can be great. I had a lot of issues the were pretty much all by me being lame..
First pass, I am the 2nd vehicle down the track. Do my burn out, put it on the brake and it blows the tires off, I peddled it but it was already in high gear, went 12.x at 124.. Check shock settings and everything seems normal. 2nd run, burn out, on the brake leave, again, blows tires off. 3rd run, same damn thing. 4th run decide to foot brake it. I roll in medium lay aggressive and it hooks a 1.67, goes 10.7x at 123.4. Figure track must be coming around, try it off the brake again on pass 5 and again blows the tires off. I happen to look at the log for something and something caught my eye. There was an rpm dip when I would first leave. 5kish to 4,600ish. Son of a gun, my 2step ain't working. Dummy me, I moved it out of the way before coming to the track, thought I reset it to 3,500 but mixed up the 100 and 1000 increments. I had it set for 5,300. With it reset at 3,500, it dead hooked a 1.57 and went 10.6 at 123.5 with only 23 of the normal 27* timing. The next 2 passes were nothing but trouble with the N20 controller. First time using one and it tested good in the garage and at the track in the pits running. Disconnect both N20 and fuel noids, bring it up to 3,500-4,000 and have my buddy hit the throttle switch. Both noids puls and there is fuel from the fuel side. Pull timing from the tune, bring it to the line, leave and the N20 does not come on. It is now 9:30 and the track closes at 10. I decided to bypass the controlled since it just grounds the noids. I am going to roll in to the throttle with now tbrake so I don't over power the tires. Leave, bottle comes on and it is pig rich shooting ducks. About the 1000' mark I have water on my windshield. Looks like I may have lifted the heads. So, I have a few changes I plan on making to help that situation. I think the NOS launcher will be coming out and I will be trying a different controller. But with a baby coming in the next 2-6 weeks, it will sit in the garage. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
The nitrous controller that Nx sells is the stuff. I forget the name of it but hey are out of Canada. It's cheap and works great.
Good luck on the little one. Posted via Mobile Device |

Dang that's some intense stuff to go through. Congrats on the soon to be new born.

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
I didn't even see that you had been to the track Shaun, CONGRATS
Hey nothing broke so it was a good trip right!!! What kind of air were you running in? 10.6's on the motor is pretty darn respectable. Is lifting the head a common issue when your up in the 600-1000HP range? Wha are some of the big boys with TT doing to keep it sealed up? As I remember,, isn't D getting real close to delivering??? You better get all the racing in you can buddy. I suspect it's going to be a while before you get any 'free time' to go play. |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Marv,
Weather was similar to my 10.54 pass, but I only had 23* in the tune up. There are a few things I am planning to adjust when the heads come off: ARP's original tech file said tq heads to 65lbs. Then moved them to 80lbs. Now they recommend 90lbs. Mine were at 80lbs. I have been told by some turbo guys and heavier N20 guys, the newest thing is taking apart the cometic gasket and dusting copper coat between each layer. My quench was at .044 which the bigger N20 guys are running between .065-.100 to take some efficiency out of the the quench. Too tight and the resolution of timing might be an issue. Heck, my combo was efficient as it only wanted 25-27* total timing on motor. Danielle is due in 2 weeks. I won't be doing much for the next 6 months. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
Is there any difference between the cometic gaskets and the LS9 gaskets? I have been hearing quite a few people are using the LS9 gaskets.
|
Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
The ls9 cam and gasket have been GM's choice for in house forced induction projects, and it's what I've seen used in some FI lsx projects in the industrial markets as well (which is cool as hell)

Re: My build thread.. 63 LS powered C10
The LS9 gasket is a great gasket. There are turbo guys using that gasket to right about 1000rwhp. But in my case, it won't work due to the issue of quench. It would put me where I am now.

Well boys and girls, I was ready to sell my truck and buy a car from a member here. Thought long and hard and decided I just couldn't do it. So instead, I am yet again making some major changes and in some cases going back the opposite direction then what I have.
No, I am not planing on going slower, quite the opposite actually, but I do plan on making the truck more streetable again. I have decided I am going twin turbo, will most likely loose the glide and go back to an 80e with a 3.73 gear as apposed to my current 4.56. I will also be moving over to a 6 bolt LS block at some point, just not any time soon, well unless someone really wanted my motor :) The attached pic is the newer PTC6768 turbos. Long term goal is somewhere around 1200rwhp on high boost and a solid 8.50 to tap the cage cert yet be able to drive it from my house to LA if I wanted. My xmas consisted of: (2) CEA6768's with a .96 AR (2) PW46 waste gates (1) XS 50mm BOV (2) Bell 4 1/2" x 16" x 10" air to air intercooler cores Eboost 2 controller And a bunch of misc silicon fittings, clamps, and flanges. In addition to that, I was able to get an auger for my tractor. This will help me turn the 288 railroad ties I have in my driveway in to some retaining walls, level a big area that some day I will put a shop on. |
