Re: 56 shop truck build

I cut up an older exhaust system and made it work to draw some of the heat away during the cam break in so you'll be able to hear some leakage from the use donut seal but here is a quick 30 second video of it starting and running. It'll sound so much better once the exhaust is all buttoned up

The engine is a 1969, 350, 4 bolt main with a 270 Comp Cam, Comp Aluminum roller rockers, port matched heads and intake, Holley aluminum intake, 650 Edelbrock carb. It's paired up to a TH350 with a B&M toque master 2500 stall

It should roll down the road nicely. That cam sure has a nice rumble to it.

Re: 56 shop truck build

well last night was fairly productive. I got all the electrical glitches figured out with the exception of the brake lights, but a fellow rodder on the HAMB got me straightened out this morning on my issue. We also got the 16" electric fan mounted and wired and working beautifully. Tonight will consist of hooking the shift cable up from the B&M shifter, filling the rear diff and bolting the bed down without the bed wood installed yet. Then we'll put it in gear and make it move and stop before loading it on the trailer tomorrow to take it for it's inspection and full on exhaust system.

Re: 56 shop truck build

What a day! The wife and I have been cranking on this truck for 4 hours every night for the past 2 weeks to get it ready for inspection. We got everything buttoned up last night and decided to put it in gear.........and the torque wouldn't grab. It a brand new B&M 2500 stall too!! So this morning before it went into the shop we had to drop the tranny replace the torque and put it all back together. We had it all done and back on the ground in a little over an hour. It's a good thing I have Rick The MudMan for a hot rod buddy, he was there right from the get go this morning. Once we started it and shifted into reverse, it grabbed right away. Then came loading it on the trailer, we were already late at this point. We rolled out the ramps and as the truck approached, it came to a sudden stop as the front leaf spring shackle hit the ramp before the tires got there. It's pretty damn low, let me tell ya. So I made the call to drive it to the shop instead. It was a bit of a stressful ride but it handled and responded great! We were to late to get the inspection and exhaust done today so they pulled the truck inside to lock it up for the weekend and they'll have it all done and ready to go by Tuesday or Wednesday. Now it's time to take a few days off

I think that Pi$$ me off more than anything. New parts that don't work. For years the new parts we put on wasn't much better than the old ones.

Re: 56 shop truck build

I ran across this picture last night. This is my incredible wife Shawna who took it upon herself to recover the seat, carpet the floor of the cab and trouble shoot all the issues I couldn't figure out while building this truck. She's an industrial mechanic apprentice and seems to be able to figure damn near anything out.

But without her help, this truck would still be in pieces. She's a big part of the build so I thought I'd better add her to the build thread. :metal: she rocks :metal:

Tim you are one lucky guy. I like the seat cover.

Re: 56 shop truck build

I consider myself one of the luckiest men alive to have her.

It only took her about 35 minutes to pull and stretch that blanket into a seat cover. ANd all the lines match up perfectly from side to side. She's big on symmetry.
