Re: 1969 Short Wide
Time for a mild update. Progress has been pretty slow. Things get pretty slow this time of year with fishing and golf seasons taking over most our free time. I have worked on it a little though. I got the rear end all cleaned up primered and painted, then installed new seals all around. I blasted the outer brake mount plates, primered and painted them too. Then reassembled the third member and installed the axles. Got one side of the brakes assembled. Then found out I only ordered the right hand side of the brake hardware. I'll probably just clean up the old hardware and re-use most of it. I also picked up a 4l60E on Craigslist the other day, supposed to only have 70k miles on it? It looks pretty greasy. We'll see when I pull the pan. Here are the pics:

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Dunno man a leaky valve cover and make anything look nasty in only a couple thousand miles so lets hope that it is good in there when you drop the pan :metal:

Trans looks about right to me, my 30K engine/trans was just about that bad.........yet my 00 Silverado was perfectly clean with 130K and I only sprayed it off twice.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Time for another small update. I have just about finished the rear suspension modifications. Got the brakes installed, got the front sway bar installed.
I picked up an adjustable panhard bar from Tom (T Korinek) HERE. Then I lengthened it 12.5".......which turned out to be around 4" too long after my mock up at ride height (measure once cut twice).:) I used some pics from Keith (lolife99) of his pandhard relocation mount to design my own. I have it painted and ready for final install. Next step is new shocks for the rear and brake lines, then gas tank and lines. Can't wait to get to the LS install after that. It will be downhill from there. Here are the pics: Bar sectioned http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy198.jpg Made a 12.5" lenthener (4" too long shoud be 8.5") http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy199.jpg Bar Welded the second time http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy206.jpg Mock up to decide where to weld the mounting tabs http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy200.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy201.jpg Pieces for the mount (decided not to use the gusset, upper middle) http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy202.jpg assembled before welding http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy203.jpg Welded http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy204.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy205.jpg Fit on the chassis http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy207.jpg |

I finally saved up enough to buy some brake lines. I ordered a stainless kit from Inline Tube. They were highly recommended from several members. The quality is very good but the fit has been less than perfect. I'm still fighting with them. Part of the problem, my frame is from a 67 and the lines are for a 72. Here are the update pics. I started installing the brake lines and figured out the 67 lines run behind the cross member and 72 runs in front. So I got some line mounts from a fellow board member Kyle (screaminchevypickup) Thanks again! http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...chevy213-1.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy214.jpg I welded the holes up from the rivets http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy215.jpg Cut off the old tabs http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy218.jpg Installed the new mounts http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy224.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy216.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy217.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy223.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy219.jpg Still need to drill a hole in the rear crossmember and fab a mount: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy220.jpg Here is a picture of where I'm having issues with the lines: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...n/chevy222.jpg |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Nice job! I wish that I had the patience it took to make that panhard mount, and that extension for the bar. I kinda get the job done, but it aint that pretty. I can't wait for you to stick some tins on that thing.
Keep up the good work! |
Re: 1969 Short Wide
It's looking great. Those lines loook nice but also looks like they could be a PITA to get installed due to their pre-bent nature.
|
Re: 1969 Short Wide
Nice work, keep the pictures coming & keep on truckin' :metal:
