Re: Bolt in steering rack
Newsflash RideTech will now be a stocking dealer for our C-10 rack & pinion kits. This fits in perfectly with their new True-Turn steering kits for muscle cars. The deal was struck at SEMA.

Re: Bolt in steering rack
Looks great but I don't think it will work on my truck, I sectioned 1.5" out of my crossmember and it doesn't look like the rack mount will fit.

Re: Bolt in steering rack
Yeah, my whole steering shaft and support bearing will have to be different do to having a 2" upand 1" forward Z. But looking at the bolt holes for the outside bolts for the rack bracket, they look to be to high to work with a sectioned crossmember.

Re: Bolt in steering rack
Can you elaborate on the 'reuse your stock steering shaft' bit? I don't see how this will work...

Re: Bolt in steering rack
So there's no realistic way to make this work with the towers in the front holes? Hmm...time to figure out if I can move mine back, I think my engine is already sitting fairly close to the firewall though.

On the engine mount issue- have you installed your kit on a 73-87? The mounts, by design, use both the front and rear holes. Many 63-72 guys convert to the newer style engine mounts too, myself included. |
Re: Bolt in steering rack
I seriously think if there was an award for best product of 2011 this would win. finished product looks killer.

Re: Bolt in steering rack
Thanks Broey. As to the motor mount issue, We have done one as a test. We took the front bolt out and marked the other two holes to be drilled. Drilled the two 5/16" mounting bolt holes. - the rear hole went through the motor mount as well. Then, we drilled out the front motor mount hole to 7/8" for the steering shaft, and fit the bearing and shaft. A small amount of die grinding was needed to get the shaft to clear the motor mount plate. We put a small weld, 1/2" long, on the leading edge of the motor mount to the frame. Everything works fine, but this truck now only has about 600 miles on the install, and we would like to see a bunch more. I'll keep you posted, and get a pict next time he comes by.

Anybody try to mount their rack with factory lower control arms only to find out it wont fit! The rack just sits on top of the bushing part of the control arms... how much of the control arm in this area is safe to trim down so I can make the rack work? Attachment 830774

Re: Bolt in steering rack
Oh man that sucks. I hope they have an answer. If it were me though, I would just cut whatever amount I need to off. But, I'm just saying what I would do. Not what you should do.
