Re: Die-cast 67-72

Hey,did you get that at a store?I never saw this before and just bought one off ebay that came about an hour ago.I asked the seller and he said it had`98 for a date and I thought it just got by me.But,the box is designed like the`57 Cameo that isn`t that old.I got it w/shipping for what it would cost at a store.I was the only bidder.I figured between the "Rides" one and the blue & white one that`s out right now that this was earlier.Maybe I saw it before and just forgot.I know they brought the kit back about 15 years ago with an ochre & white one on the box.
Anyway,I came on to show a picture of my truck kits on display.I have a `72 MPC Long Step w/dirt bike kit I can`t find that I want on the top shelf where this red `72 is.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...55/Picture.jpg

And,I opened the box and found this I started and abandoned about 15 years ago.I saw one on Ebay and bought it once I saw I had started this one.Bfore the auction was over a sealed kit came up,so I bid and won that, too. When going through my kits to put these away I found I already had bought a second kit way back then so I could build this one...that makes 4!Then,the original kit came up and I had to have that.Hey,it`s the only shortbed they made.If I build them I can cover the 69-72 Chevys. There`s a resin short Fleet and a`67 conversion, too.I have the donors!!!

It`s got chrome car rallyes from a Camaro kit. They didn`t start making car rallyes for trucks until several years later.

I got one this morning. I didn't realize they were Toys-R-Us exclusives. I wish they came single packaged, I guess I will give the rest of the slamfest toy to some kid. I also found another Coca Cola Blazer.

I lucked into a silver JL Blazer at my Walmart.I was surprised.
Thanks Andy. There`s a`57 Cameo on Ebay with that same box art and it says it`s from`98 in the description.I guess I let it by me back then when I wasn`t looking.I`ve been a casual collector of kits. But,I`ve been onto them lately.I`m trying to make that shelf all GM trucks.Looking for that Open Road Camper,MPC`67 Fleetside,AMT`67,`68,`70,or any others I don`t have. You know how that collectin`goes...

Re: Die-cast 67-72

That Racer`s Wedge is a pride`n`joy. The kit`s molded in red, too.Just looks neat in there.I saw another on Ebay and it was molded in white.I geuss there may be some significance in that to nitty-gritty collectors.I bought 4-5 kits from a board member a couple years ago.He had more, but I was kinda short on money and it was in between two vacations (rare). He gave me a great package deal and even a payment plan.I didn`t send money the week between the vacations and he got pissed and cancelled the second batch. That Open Road camper was in there...oh well. The other vintage ones I bought this year.
I had bought others when I broke my foot in the`80s and couldn`t work or do much else.I rediscovered kits while christmas shopping for the kids.I saw all the old kits reissued and went nuts.I only built a few.People saw those and my son and I started getting kits as gifts for awhile:lol:.They`ve been stashed until recently.I still have others.I had that Hot Trucks trio kit and sold it this fall at a swap meet (before my display). It had a`55 Stepside,90-ish Sportside, and El Camino SS.Sold it cheap, too.Wasn`t selling anything else,so I sold some to another vendor.
If I wasn`t broke (again),I would have bid on this promo.Actually I did bid $100 max. when it was hovering in the 20s.I came back to it and someone bid over $200 and won.I would have been on it and outbid him,but $100 was even more than I should have spent at the time. This is the only one I`ve seen this color. It`ll always be a high dollar promo and only bring more money in the future...nice!

I got to get up to my dad's and get the red one he has. He got it back in the 70"s when he was with Chevy. It's stored up in all there stuff someplace. There is no telling how many old promo's I blew up back when I was a kid.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

`72 had a red and a blue, from what I`m told.I have a red `69,not sure what other years it could be.I just bid and won a vintage `65 El Camino kit.I`ve been saying I`ll sell all but my GM trucks.El Caminos are trucks, right?:D

Re: Die-cast 67-72

I just won this and have some more I'm waiting on. My wife is going to kill me. Oh well I guess if she does I'll have a bunch of models for my son.
Yes El Camino are trucks as far as I'm concerned.
These things are getting up there in price.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Thunderbolt!!!I built that kit back when it came out in the early`80s.I painted it to match my real Blazer I had.I saw those 2 on Ebay. That Thunderbolt is a complete Blazer kit(like Boondocker, etc.) plus the monster wheels/tires/axles.It even has the Trail 90,or whatever it is.I still have the box,but I gave the Blazer to one of my older son`s friends because he showed some interest in models.
The old truck kits are bringing good money. But,I see kit dealers sell them alot more than I see on Ebay. They`re all in the $100 range. The most I`ve paid on Ebay was around $75 with shipping.I got some in the $20-30 range.I just paid $25 for that `65 Elky.

Correction:The Boondocker doesn`t come with the mini cycle. But,Thunderbolt and Bushwacker (it`s a Jimmy!) do.

That`s a cool kit. Here`s that El Camino kit.The next issue had a cool drag version on the box.The was a version from the 67-72 era that was a construction company vehicle from the same company as a Blazer kit.I have that Blazer kit on that shelf. It`s called "Crew Chief"...

I'm amazed at what everyone has. It's funny how people collect things and do it for year's thinking that know one else even thinks about it then BOOM everybody has it!!!

Re: Die-cast 67-72

:lol:Comforting, isn`t it?:D I started buying toy stuff that I thought was pretty cool and kinda kept it to myself and only maintained a casual interest.I hung onto some things from childhood.I have all my Matchboxes...quite a few.I`ve always been into antiques and started seeing old toys more.In the early`80s I saw a `56 Tonka pickup and thought it was cool and it made me realize how they don`t make toys like they used to...a serious lack of plastic. That thing has more steel in it than some cars!Well, maybe I exaggerated.I paid $25 and felt kinda silly, but I don`t care. Then,my wife brought another Tonka home, maybe a year later.I started looking for them and they started working their way into swap meets. It progressed to toy shows, subscription to "The Toy Box" (monthly classified),and getting to know collectors around the country.Once I realized other guys were buying these up it got sick.I have around 200 pieces now!!!I had to stop awhile back.Man,they got expensive.
Once I got into collecting those I got onto all kinds of other stuff, big and small. My kits were bought to build, but never had the time.It started when I was layed up,but once back on my feet they sat and sat and became older issues. Now,I buy older GM truck kits. But,seeing the original car kits is tempting me.I keep telling myself,"no,just trucks".I have to draw the line somewhere:lol:.I`m thinking to start selling my car kits.

I have some of my orignal Hotwheels I played with as a kid too! I got them when my Mom & Dad moved out of there house to Fla. years ago. I also got some stuff of my grandeparents also. No one else in the family wanted it at the time and we had just bought our house so we needed anything we could get. I just wish I wouldn't have blown up all those Promo's of my dad's when he worked for Chevorlet. Man some of those would be worth some money now.

Just picked up this at Wal-Mart today. I didn't look through the thread to see if it had been posted already. First time I have seen it. They had lots of the other cars in the series, but only one of these.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Cool!Yeah,it`s been discussed but that doesn`t mean you can`t talk about it or show it off.Your luck is better than mine.I have yet to find one.I like that one best out of the`67s,IMO.The paint jobs they are doing make the trucks look bowed up in the middle to my eye. They don`t really follow the truck`s true lines.I`d like to see one w/o stripes down the side.

Good site.On Ebay there are two old truck kits under "Vintage" then "Chevy" to refine. The AMT 69 or 70 Blazer kit with offroad racer with cut down windshield on box and the MPC Chevy Fleetside. That`s the one with the white NHRA Official pickup on the cover.
Paul,I`d love to find that "Bandit" kit. It`s a reissue that I never see.Forgot about it to tell the truth.
Mike, thanks for the offer.I`m just not that excited about this`67 truck at this point.I guess if I saw one on the pegs I`d buy it.I`d prolly customize it,though.

I only have one of the green ones. I got it off ebay from a guy in Mexico.

I got my Boondocker kit off ebay too. I paid less than $20 for it because the guy had it listed incorrectly as a mid 70's. I used to love the plastic models. I 'd build them and then blow them up. Remember those kits with the little bodies and huge engines.

Did they ever build a USA-1 monster truck in kit or diecast using the pre 72 body it started with? It seems like I've seen a kit, but can never find one when I search.
