Hey 60-66, can you show some pics of the in bed spare carrier on your fleetside. I have a carrier, but would like to know about factory placement and what they used to hold the tire to the carrier. Any help is appreciated

If you look at the inner part of the bedside where it meets the floor the holes are drilled in the sheet metal lip that sits on top of the wood, you will notice they may not be drilled through the wood if it wasn't factory installed. That gets you started on mounting the carrier . Then its just a long carriage bolt that goes through the wheel with a nut on the end. I'm not positive yet what nut actually goes there or what it looks like. Here's the bolt 3898396 http://www.ebay.com/itm/121359433216...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and they list the nut specifically for side mount.

Really a super truck, Jon. Hey, I can't recall if you've ever been asked if you had a favorite among your collection of remarkable low-mile trucks. Is there one that you consider your "prize" find? If so, which one and why?

Thanks for the info. Looks like a 1/2" carriage bolt 8" long.....I will probably use the same style lock I used on my stepside spare fender mount.

Boy, that's a tough one. I guess when I find each one I feel that way. I like them all, that's why I rarely sell anything. Its the thrill of finding them and getting a chance to bring them back to life and enjoy them. I've owned the white 65 4x4 the longest, almost 23 years. My favorites are this Gold truck, the Red 66 GMC and my blue 60 short bed , the white 65 AND AND but not in any order. The red GMC I waited 4 years to get from the original owner. He listed it once on EBay while he was still alive but at that time he was at twice what the truck was worth. It was his baby and he was very proud of the truck. 4 years later he passed and his wife and son put it up for sale a little to cheap . It was exciting to drive out to Baxter Springs KS to pick it up and see where it was stored all its life. Sold new in Miami Oklahoma. Each one has a story .

Just when you thought the supply of unmolested trucks had dried up, TWO truly sweet, camper-shelled brothers show up on CL and ebay in the same week. Go figure the odds.
The slightly younger one is on the left in all pics.

Thanks for posting these time capsules oem! These trucks remind me of the way the majority of pickups looked like in the 60's and 70's. Both are excellent examples for this thread, both appear to be used for light recreational activities and show pride of ownership.

Heres another little gem I stumbled on last night. Looks like a 63 c20 and less than 4k to purchase. I can see very little changed. One owner since 63...Sea mist green, deluxe seat, arm rests, gauges, fender mounted spare, 292 w/4 speed.....

Ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Chevrol...-/151400510687

Id be all over this one if I didn't have two now as it is. What a steal

Few more and it looks pretty solid too!!! Other than the auxiliary gauges added, black missing around the headlight bezels and the bed wood...looks stock to me.

I can tell the bed woods bed woods been restored (factory was black) and looks like stainless strips down, but that's easily fixable. Can't beat the price for what you get though.

Guess I'll throw my hat into the ring because survivors are my favorite. This is my unrestored 1966 Custom Camper with 34,xxx miles. Original factory Dark Blue/White paint and 16" lock ring wheels. The engine is a 327 with the TH400 auto trans. Fairly well-equipped for '66 yet no P/S or P/B and an under-dash A/C.

I seldom see dark blue trucks with original paint that's any good. Not sure if it was a less-popular color or if it just didn't hold up as well as some other colors. Incidentally, this truck spent its life in Denver before I found it.

Very nice! I like the dark blue.

Is that an old hydraulically-actuated trailer brake controller next to the hazard flasher knob?

Really cleaned up nice Sodly . Really nice. Like these pictures to . Shows off all your hard work cleaning this Beauty back to its true glory !! Edit .. Had to add this. This is a great example of just plain preservation of originality and a great example of what they looked like new, this look will never die .
