That is funny cause one of his neighbors is worse than he is...old Camaro with T-tops...and a tarp to cover it up.

I think the worst night was when we were building up oil pressure in his fresh 476...we had smoke and fire...it was fun.

Sheesh, tires are getting thinner, and thinner all the time!

Are those the king's new tires?

Nope, those are the new Costmo Invisatread tires!

Thanks guys, and thanks for the chop. I'm diggin 'em. I need to make some "accommodations" for the tires and then I'll take it to a shop for some test fitting.

There's one little snag; I may need to run a ~3/8-1/2" spacer in the back. The reason is because Coy stopped offering the 22x9 in a 5" backspacing. They only offer it in 5.5" now (even though the website still showed the 5"). So the back tucks in a little more than I'd like and it's pretty close to the inside wall of the tub. I thought I had given up 1/2" of positive offset, but that's not the case. They just machine down the mounting pad so running a spacer will be no different than buying their 5" BS wheels (just more expensive  ).

Even after I get tires I'll probably roll around on the 17's while I finish all the fabrication... who am I kidding  It's a good thought anyway ;)

And Porter, the neighbors and I have a love/hate relationship. They love when I help them with their cars and hate when I work on mine :o Not really; we're all good. But I didn't make any friends this night (Britain with the gortex respirator  ) 2000 RPM for 30 min with no valve covers and a smoke filled garage

See previous post. We'll see with the spacers. I'm thinking more along the lines of 289-295, but I'll go with the widest I can fit (without tubbing it).

Thanks man. I replied to you on the headers. Maybe it got filtered... I like them and I think those are the ticket :)

Not sure what you mean about the tank. I have a poly replacement tank in there now with a Hagan fuel door:

Believe me, it was much worse in there than it looks like in those pictures...especially when it caught on fire. There are hand prints down the hall, up the stairs, and back when Mike went running through the house to get a towel.

Bigger wheels ;) It won't touch when aired out with the 22's out back, and I certainly won't be driving it that way, so we're good. I have thought about making a skid plate for it too. Just for that added measure of safety.

This hidden hinge thing has been a big wrench in the gears of progress for me. I've been waiting on the hinges in order to put the new lift/tailgate on, in order to do the tail-light mod, in order to finish all the welding so I can put the rear glass in...

I would have just binned the idea but I already started to "mod" the upper hinge area and didn't want to simply "repair" what I had started (might be a little bit of a pride issue there ;) ). Actually, I really would have said forget it if Captainfab didn't come through with a pair of 60-66 Burb hinges :metal:

So now I have no excuse...

Here's the "before pic"--those stock hinges really are an eye soar for me, though I know they look fine when they're painted... I notice them

60-66 Burb Hinges:

Mounted to the body. I also inverted the lower part of the hinge and cut off the unnecessary flanges:

Modifying the liftgate for a strong mounting point (plus a little rust repair:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1186083884

My repair patch cam out a little sloppy but I can fill that in ;) Here you also see the begining of the bracket I made to mount the hinge to the liftgate:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1186083884

Drilled and tapped for the bracket (allows for adjustment):
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1186083884

That gaping hole above the hinge where the weatherstripping sits will be filled back in like it never happened (and won't be cut on the other side ;) ) That was from attempts with different hinge styles:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1186083884

That little slot will also be filled back in:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1186083884

I tested the motion and it looks like it's gonna work like a champ.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

I know this hinge mod started out looking like a hack job, but it will be done right and finished off nicely. My main concern is strangth so here's what I've come up with. I think it'll hold ;)

The inboard side of the hinges must be spaced down due to the arch of the roof. This keeps them level with each other to prevent binding. So I put a 3/16 mounting pad there and drilled and tapped it. On the outboard sides I put a 1/8" plate inside (above existing skin) and tapped that.

That's quite a compliment. Thank you.

I FINALLY got the hidden hinges functional. It wasn't that it was a lot of head scratching, it was just a LOT of work! Had to drill 64 holes, yes six-four, and tap 20. There was multi layered metal to cut and drill with weird internal angles that wanted to push the bits to the side or break them...

I was starting to doubt if this was really worth doing but now I'm a believer.

Here's some pics of the driver's side:
