Dismantled the shackles, welded the inside of the frames, finished off the outside welds with some smoothing by the grinder.

Nice progress.
Good looking weld job.
Uphill welding is not fun.

Thanks...next up is gussets on the added frame component and then the lower portion of the trans crossmember support...I might combine the two...

Today I worked on the new lower supports for the transmission crossmember. My thought was to use the original lower support, and modify it so the rear shackles can still lay where they have to. Here’s the original with all paint and crud removed.

My first cut was the yellow line, essentially making room for the shackles. The center of the “loose” section was cut in half (dotted yellow line)...and A and B flipped over and swapped sides.

The A and B sections had to be pie cut so I could make the correct angle. I then made a second angle to match up with the top half when it sits in the frame.

I did some tack welds when I had it in the frame...I then removed it and finished welding it up.

One coat of paint...I’m calling it a night after I put a second coat on. Before the weekend, I’ll have this all wrapped up regarding the front differential.

Lower transmission crossmember brace in position. Everything bolted up.

Ummmm...I am admitting that I must swallow my pride and say that I think I wasted a bunch of time not thinking through my setup. Though I did some interesting fabrication on a crossmember that came original to the C30...I am beginning to realize that the V8 setup from the K20 will not need this. I am going with a V8 and the blue truck has all the crossmembers I need. I am sorry about chasing down this rabbit hole and causing any confusion...enclosed are pics of the crossmembers from the donor truck.

Now with that out of the way...I have a question. (Know that I spent about 2 hours searching threads)... My C30 frame had the 292 I6 2wd setup obviously...I want to put my V8 engine mount/crossmember into position, but I am unclear precisely where on the frame it goes. I know closely, but not accurately. Anybody have measurements from a common frame location? I walked through the snow to look at the donor, but it’s buried in snow.

When I looked at my ‘71 K20 in the yard (buried in snow), it looked like there were 2 vertical holes for a rubber bumpstop bracket located half way between the V8 mount member bolts...the angle I had did not make me fell comfortable to render a decision yet. Here’s a couple vertical holes that look like what I saw...any thoughts when comparing the crossmember/mount?

Or when looking at the third picture, would you use one of the three holes that were for the original 2wd front end to get the alignment for the crossmember?

Looking at chassis pictures from manuals thus far haven’t given me measurements...I’ll keep searching.

I found a photo from earlier in this thread...

If I can find my 1968 donor front end in the snow, I’ll be able to get some sort of measurements...perhaps I need to get the measurement between the red and blue arrows and I’ll have my info. The blue arrow shows the front bolt for the V8 crossmember. Guess what? More snow tonight.

Does anyone have an accurate measurement of how far forward the front V8 motor mount bolt (Green arrow) is versus the bump stop support bolt (Red Arrow)? Dolly came with a six cylinder and the bolt holes for the mounts are different.

My V8 donor frame that is pictured, is buried in snow as stated earlier.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Not sure if my info will help, BUT 2WD V-8 motor mount stands go in the forward 2 holes in the frame...6 banger in the rear 2 holes...

Thanks...but the holes don’t appear to match.

A better question would be...On a K20 small block V8 4x4, how much distance “forward” is the front crossmember hole (Center) from the bump stop bolt (Center)?

Two plumb vertical lines must be drawn from these two “centers”, and then measure the distance between the two, and then I should be good to go.

From another section on this fantastic site, I received a response from landarts...he says 1/2 inch difference. He measured off of his K20...Thank you so much! I knew it was close but I wasn’t sure.

Been a long time from my last post...I have not been idle per say. I’ve been working on this CRX for the upcoming summer. New suspension components all around.

Did get a power steering box put on Dolly...sorry for the 2 sideways pics

First, trimmed the radiator support

Second, put heat and hammer to the frame for more clearance

Third, bolted it up...now Dolly will have power steering (donated by my 1971 K20)

Picked up the V8 today...runs great, 31k miles, mild cam. Going to clean it up and make it look like it came from 1967. Pretty much.

Thank you...that’s good to know. Some valve covers are pretty cheap and you have to watch what you buy. I am actually thinking of saving the valve covers and the Chevrolet aluminum intake for another small block. I think the manifold was off of a Z28 previously, not sure. I want to go with an Edelbrock intake with Oil Filler in the front, and Chevrolet script valve covers for that ‘67 look.
