waiting for the guy to get thru with the harness and the tune and ship it all to me. I keep thinking if my intake was a single plane I'd just get the boss's drilled and tapped and toss a big throttle body on top. May wind up there someday tho...who knows.

Nothing specific yet. With the EFI harness, are you using a stock harness modified or an aftermarket harness?

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

Harness is being built for me, as I understand it from scratch. I will be running the e38 ecm, truck intake, and dbw. While the e38 doesn't care what trans is behind it and will run with stick or auto...I think I may as well go all the way with this...........meaning a 4L80e at the very least. That said..............I have my mind set on trying to get my hands on a 6L80e or 6L90e. Then later a dana60 or 14bolt 9.5" SF and then I ought to be able to beat on it at the track and still drive it home.

I've noticed some "new" GM transmissions have a core charge while others don't. I guess they are actually rebuilt? Core charges for 4L80's and 6L80/90's are $800-1000!

Not sure why you can't edit your posts to add pictures? So, you are going to a LS3 setup? Stock injectors? Mean tune and a bad-a tranny? 6L80 would be sweet but you have to pony up some $$$$
Looking forward to updates.:metal:

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

custom harness w/dbw, e38 ecm, and the truck setup because of the truck accessory drive, a mean tune, and hopefully a 6L90e...but I am also getting feedback that the 6L90e can kick motor into limp mode if it feels its be "abused"...something you don't have to worry about with a 4L80e.

Long term.....I imagine swapping my dual plane for a single plane carb intake, getting a set of matched injectors, and a 1000cfm carb style throttle body. Would look more like a "carb" setup which I prefer under the hood of a 40yr old truck. No hurry to get there right now I don't think.

You must use Photobucket.
That happens all the time.
There have been many threads trying to persuade members to upload their pics to the boards gallery,... so they will always be there.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

no, I actually own a domain and have my own server account. Never had any problems before. And besides.....what would that have to do with the EDIT feature/button in the thread?

interesting.....the EDIT buttons that showed up a while ago on todays posts are now gone.

*edit- only the LAST post shows EDIT now.

edit only lasts for a short time after a post is made. Josh had to implement this due to folks mass deleting things and generally screwing up a major amount of FAQs and threads. Unfortunately editing permissions can not change on a per user basis.. so we would need to do the edit for you. Feel free to report the post that needs an edit, and let us know what needs to change.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

OK. I've had requests to fix this thread so that others could follow along with the images. I have traded away the original domain name but also owned the "plural" version if that makes since.

Would it be possible for someone to change the http://www.lsxtruck.com/ to http://www.lsxtrucks.com/? Then they will all magically reappear!

Thanks!

Hello? Can someone change this (really simple....only adding one character to the url) or does this thread just need to be closed go away?

Correct me if I'm wrong...but it would have to be done to every picture??? I will fix the first post but just get them all right now...

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

Yes, and thank you! I've fixed the [img] tags in the threads on other forums and thought I remembered fixing things here in the past...but I guess it became a problem somehow. I wouldn't ask, but have had PM's from other guys doing similar projects, asking about fixing it so they could see. That original url is being traded away though... so everything was moved to the "backup" domain. Some simple to fix, some not so much so.

Thanks again.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

OK guys......this thread is no longer a good representation of my build. I cannot edit it to make the images appear...something it seems we all seem to live for here. The url address I was using is in transition to a new owner, my images have been moved to a new url... and it seems editing our older posts is no longer available to us here. The mods were kind enough to repair post#1 but don't appear interested in fixing the whole thread...and to tell the truth I don't blame them. That's a lot of "s"'s to add in.

THAT SAID. I have no motivation either to try and rebuild this thread with a new one... so if there's ANYTHING discussed here that you need to see for your project, please let me know.

Maybe you could post the link to the new pic hosting location so we all could find those pics if needed/wanted?

that would mean making a private gallery public. let me see about it.....

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

The reason the pics are dead is because the url changed. To correct that someone would have to manually edit each post so that probably not going to happen.

My suggestion would be to use the gallery here to load your pics. That way you know they aren't going anywhere.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build

I never debated that. My issue is no longer being able to edit it myself...but I understand it became a problem for some and had to be removed. That's why the rest of the pics can't be seen....because I can't fix them myself.

I'm finally to the "mostly clean" part of my build. I am doing a frame up on my '68 GMC custom. Cosmetically it looks like a Chevy with a '68 Chevy grill, though my plans are for no markings on the truck.

I will be installing a genIV '09 LY6 6.0L crate motor (using the ECE kit) with a 200-4r trans backing it up. The LY6 is an iron block 6.0L with VVT (variable valve timing) and the high flowing L92/LS3 style rectangular intake port heads. This 6.0L will not be efi...it will have a Holley Street HP 750 carb sitting atop a GMPP LSX/LS3 dual plane intake with an MSD 6LS-2 to read the sensors and fire off the factory coil packs. Comp has recommended a .224/.228 @ .050 and .566/.568 lift on 112 LSA tho I've been thinking bigger. The 200-4r is built to handle 500+hp and has a 2500rpm stall convertor.

*edit - cam went bigger! see attached:

I also have the CPP (Western) 2.5" drop spindles, tubular upper control arms, 1"/4" drop springs, drop shocks, adj. panhard, and front and rear sway bars to upgrade the suspension. I also am wanting to add rack and pinion steering, bigger brakes and rear discs, and a vintage air. As for the body...other then the addition of a cowl induction hood...the paint and body work will have to wait for me to pay off the powertrain/chassis build.

The perfectly good running and looking truck I started (after setting the body on a '72 chassis a few years ago) with:

and now..........

and trans:

....more to come later

do these crate motors come with the VVt system installed? if so Why did you pay extra for it? then not use it.?!
