Re: "Rice Rocket'

Ok $1350 for my shortblock. Im using keith black hyper#$%#$ pistons balanced bottom end, vortec heads.

Any suggestions? Patriot vs regular votecs? What style intake manifold? And I guess I need to be lookin' for a slightly bigger carb. darn (500cmf)

edit where can I get self adj. rocker arms for the vortec heads?

Re: "Rice Rocket'

i bought my self align. rockers at my local parts store, i had to put them on my 85 4x4 because with the aftermarket heads some would want to drift off center of the valve i think i just told them i needed rockers for a 95 an later 350

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Your local GM dealer should have the self alighning rockers. If not check with Scoggin Dickey. You might want to consider RHS or other American made aftermarket fast burn castings. They will be less prone to cracking and will be able to handle more than .450 lift without modification. Nastyz28.com has a great thread on the Vortecs BTW.

Sold 2 old bumpers to a lady, yes lady truck enthusiast (sp)?

Step bumper and chrome front bumper ($ for repair pannels lol)

Then my gfs new neighbor came over (i was in the shop working on my truck) and introduced himself and his buddy, turns out he likes 67-72 trucks and has 2 that he was going to pick up and bring home!! He helped me with some pointers on my rust repair and left..

So it was a good truck tinkering day and i got my gas tank outta the cab (fyi run it outa gas before you try to pick it up lol)

Re: "Rice Rocket'

I currently have 2 cab corners and 2 rear floot supports

I still need: Inner and outer rockers, floor supports

Maybe the lower pillar parts (rusted out)

Whats a good company to order from (I think there is a TN vendor, called tims classics or something)

What else do I need to order, im not sure of what stuff is called and dont wanna leave something out

Pretty much if they make a patch I need it!

got my gas filler patched today, needs some filler lol its my first sheetmetal welding ive done on my truck so bear with me.

I also got my gas tank adaptor welded on (1 3/8-1 1/2,which was streached to 2")

So far minus a a few holes blown in the metal (learning), and the metal was thin in that area, im doing good :)

was talked into removing my windshield, probably a good idea i had some rust under there...

thanks to sinister who donated a new seal to my cause when i first joined a year or so ago, I had no intentions of going this far i wa sjust dreaming thanks man!

Ima have to order an inner roof patch, while wirewheelin' i broke thru (very thin I guess).

PO put roof lights (not factory) on the truck then pulled em off and left holes. Well water went into the holes down the sides of windshield and into my floors lol, which made more rust.

I filled some holes in the floor today but no pics (gf got em on her camera).

Tomorow: Order pannels from tim christian (talked to him today, very nice and GREAT prices!) And take my moms civic to get the AC system looked at (recharged maybe?). Maybe fill some more holes..

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Great job so far!!! the rust repairs may seem daunting, but in the end it is all worth it.

oldblue1968chevy 06-02-2010 11:18 AM

Re: "Rice Rocket'

how far will the roof patch go? Imma replace as much as possible (metal is probably thin up there) im taking a day off today from rust repair because i have awhile til my pannels come in....ahhh i cant wait till its done!!!!

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Dude, you need a new cab. You will have way more $ in patch panels then what a clean cab would cost you. They don't make repop parts for a lot of the stuff you need, so you will be buying a different cab anyways for parts might as well make it a nice one..
