I've actually been busy on the Blazer the past few days and made some progress!! Hoping to have her in sealer before the end of February so I can take her to Lonestar Throwdown 2022! Geezus, I need to clean this thing out.....:metal:

Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd
Hey David, I had some time today and ended up reading through your entire build thread. IT IS AWESOME!!! The work you are doing is so cool - and I can't wait to see the end result. It almost makes me want to get a project going now that I am retired. Just wanted to let you know.... Keith

I had to revisit a couple of things that needed attention. Moving forward is moving forward!! I had to pull the quarter out to eliminate alot of the filler that was needed.
Attachment 2196236 I cleaned up the door handle delete and pulled out some of it as well. Attachment 2196237 I wanted to smooth the door to body area a little after doing a little custom overhang after cutting the tops of the doors off. Attachment 2196238 She is surely an ugly duckling at this point!! Attachment 2196239 Attachment 2196240 |

I cut some 1 1/4 in pipe in two and capped the inside of the door to make the 55 dash wing flow better.
Attachment 2196241 After reworking the firewall a little and cleaning it up I started some of the bodywork and cut my hole for the steering column for mockup. Attachment 2196242 Attachment 2196243 Attachment 2196244 I figured why not mock up my hood hinges while I am working on the firewall!! Attachment 2196246 |

Finally got around to finishing the install of the 55 Bel Air dash!!! It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and looked factory after it was welded in.

This is where the build started getting interesting. I had a crazy idea of making the interior look a little like an old Corvette so I mocked it up in cardboard awhile back and now I started making it out of metal and attaching it to the hinged cover I was building.

Here is the hinged cover tacked in and getting adjusted to fit the sides and to align with the custom console and sides. I went ahead and put the hinges on for the rear cover as well.

After getting the cover aligned, I went ahead and decided to cover it and make it start looking like what I had envisioned. There were a hundred steps involved in the process but here is a breakdown of what happened. :metal:

After getting the cover wrapped in metal and welded up it was on to the console. I mocked it up a few times and had to make sure it aligned with the cover. The console will eventually be integrated into the dash in a tasteful way. I have not yet finished the area where the console and cover match up, but I'll get to it!! They do line up nicely and when I am done with the console I will add some stainless cup holders and a nice fat hole for a radio or tablet.

Here are some filler pics just to show a little of the progress in full pictures. It is turning out to look amazingly close to what I had dreamed up and did in cardboard!!I know some of you may not like it but that is what custom is all about....being different!!! :metal:

Being that I was in a major rush to get this thing together for a show, I wanted to get some colored epoxy on it. I have decided to paint it blue so I got some tinted epoxy so I could see what it would look like.

Here are the pics after getting it together in one night and taking it to Lone Star Throwdown 2022. It was cold and a tad rainy but I made it there with just a sprinkle or two. Had a blast just showing off the work and then back home to some much needed heat!! I will be back on it soon and hopefully have some more updates to share!
