Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
Today's work. Started early this morning getting chores done around the house and then got the door prepped to spray the Blue. I missed a few very small dents and it orange peeled on mine just a little. But it's an old truck and not a show truck for sure. I thinned the paint a little extra but it still wasn't enough. I will reduce in more on the next round.

Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
So last Thursday I got the Driver vent window rebuilt. What a Pain in the ass that was. My fingertips are all still hurting.
First job was getting these factory style rivets into this metal impregnated seal. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1786/...c36241a1_b.jpg20180705_104427 by bjohnson388, on Flickr I had to use a drill bit to help guide it in. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/838/4...ea3fdb51_b.jpg20180705_104435 by bjohnson388, on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1762/...d49a07f9_b.jpg20180705_104441 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Next was fitting the outside seal into its frame. I didn't take any pictures other than this but this is the reason for my fingers hurting. Took a good 30 minutes and some soapy water to get it fully seated. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/926/4...aa954229_b.jpg20180705_113658 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Next was fitting the glass back into its frame using original style rubber cork glass setting tape. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1821/...0b32d7fa_b.jpg20180705_113839 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Use electrical tape so when you trim it you can't see the tape. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1785/...76035317_b.jpg20180705_114450 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Was actually easier than I thought it was going to be. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1766/...d02d540b_b.jpg20180705_114854 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Used an Exacto knife to trim off the excess. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1784/...0379e8dd_b.jpg20180705_115633 by bjohnson388, on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1822/...f8c4a103_b.jpg20180705_115643 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Still need to set the rivet that goes in the window hinge. Tearing down the Passenger vent window so I can rebulid it. This is Precision brand. I have read to save the original clips but the ones on mine had already been replace and looked just like these. I have read several threads about it. Updates...
A/C blowing dust in paint saga... Bought a cut to fit air filter from Lowe's. Wrapped it around the outside of the a/c and also cut some pieces to fit inside the vents. Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
Are you wiping with a microfiber before painting? I've found that they can sometimes static charge rhensurface and really draw in dust. A wipe with wax and grease remover or just plain blow the surface clean has always worked best for me.

Excellent job posting Bret, i am getting ready to repaint my front fenders and your build, as in the past will come in handy. Nice to see the truck outside.:metal:
Keep up the good work, the truck looks great. I used to clean everything, wear dustless clothes or none, and then hose down the garage floor before spraying to keep dust down, but still would get a couple dust spots. Good luck! |
