Been trying to silence a few of the rattles. I did some brass washers on the gear shift linkage, and that seems to quiet that cheap tinny rattling.

I also discovered the rattling from the rear was the brace for the driver's bed side was broken and there was some rust in the lip of the wheel well that made it flex and rattle as I went down the road.

Broke out the welder and patch up the wheel well and welded the brace back into place. A little resin and quick paint to pretty it up. Not show quality, but fits the truck and doesn't flex and rattle.

Unfortunately, while I was testing it for the rattles, something gave out. :censored::m6: At this moment I am not sure if something broke in the clutch or the tranny.

I suspect maybe the clutch. Pedal feels soft till almost to floor. None of the Z-linkage appears to be broken, but the throw out arm rod barely makes contact. It seems like the throwout bearing arm is stuck in mid stroke. Tranny feels weird to shift (very hard). I have it up on jack stands and even if I start in gear, I get no movement from the rear wheels.

After I do the brakes on my DD tomorrow morning, I'll drop the tranny to see if I can see what went crazy on me

Well it appears I am looking for another tranny.

This is what came out of the 64 today.

Don't know what I did to it, but I promise mom & dad I was not racing or burning out or anything stupid.

Now to the trenches to find one close by.

Got her out of tranny prison yesterday. I had found a solid core, but one of the syncro's was bad, so I got it rebuilt by a local place. The guy that use to be the owner of the shop is semi retired. He just builds the good stuff instead of the new fangled automatics. He has been doing these trannys since 1957 and he also own's a 64 C10 SWB Fleet. His is way nicer than mine and all stock looking. Glad to have the ole girl back again. She (and I) enjoyed our 4:30 AM cruise towork today. Road trip this weekend!!:ito: :chevy:

I have not been doing much but drive the ole girl. It feels great. Decided to do some minor prep for Cruising the Coast.

Major work here....Changed out the ole beat up visor.:smoke::mm::lol:

Then I just enjoyed the afternoon with her before the rains comes in.

Bill love the new truck. I've been following your 69-70 build for years, from the shed to building a shop and so on. Did you sell that truck? I just noticed the 64 in your avatar.

Yes John Life got in the way for a while, so I sold both the 70 and 83. Then bought this when life smoothed out.

Yep I'm starting to think the 64-66 trucks are now my favorite. Good choice.

Yeah John. after I started on the 70 years ago, met a now friend and his truck the Hooptie and have really loved the style ever since. Probably the only truck style I can say I really like as a "lowered" truck.

I'd still love to get my hands on Hooptie, but I don't think Kevin will ever let him go.

Love your truck, love the stance. Wondering if you could help me out? I have the same drop up front as you, but I have bags in the back, I went with the Porterbuilt stage one kit as I had no idea what springs etc to order to get the height I wanted in the back. My driveline guy wants me to decide on my ride height before measuring my drive shaft length. Do you think you could take a couple of measurements for me? If you could measure ground to bottom of frame at the back, and from the ground to the lip of the wheel well. I put my bed on in order to figure out ride height, but other than that I just have a rolling chassis. I want to complete the driveline, brake lines, and exhaust while I am at this stage.

Thanks you.

I have been under a coworker's truck all day, but I will try and get those measurements tomorrow afternoon/evening.

My wheel arches will both be needing work on the supports too.

Well truck's been docile for around 3 weeks or so. Got the inside wire gremlins I think solved and the truck quit running. After I got the 12v back to the HEI, it was still not firing. Turned out one of the wires for the pickup coil broke off. Lucky I had another factory HEI, so today EdB gave me a hand cleaning up & swapping out the distributor. The ole girl runs again, even better than before. While doing the distributor, found a couple vacuum leaks (dried out plugs) that we corrected. It would have gone faster if I would have put the wires on in the right order. :dohh:

I still have to fix a power steering pump leak and clean up the mess I made with the spark-plug wires, but at least she runs again.

I also added a new addition to the interior. Comfort grip steering wheel. Now I have some more leg room. I had to put it all together just to see what she looks like. I have to tweak the horn kit that came with it so it will work on the 64.

Overall it's great to see the old girl functioning again.

What size is the wheel, I was thinking swapping mine out.
