cut the front part of the frame rails at an angle so the newer brackets will slide on

The better way is to cut the newer brackets, instead of hacking the frame up. if you search you can find the pictures of how the brackets need to be cut.

Right now i have a 84 body on a 73 2wd frame without any problems at all. so i would say you would have no problems, but maybe there is something different with the 4x4s. And look for rust cab corners, rockers, floors, and on my cab i have rust on my front window seal area in which i dont know how i an going to fix.

Did you replace the mounts? Please tell me which ones did you use? the 70's or 80's cab mounts.

I’m putting a 84 onto a 76 frame, pictures of how to cut the bumper brackets instead of the frame would be helpful, I will cut the frame if I have too but the brackets seems easier.

Re: HELP Please 85 GMC body fit on 74 chevy frame

use the body mounts for the frame vintage NOT the donor body .

and 81-up frame horns up front are just 45* slash cut and top sticks out and bottom is cut back as the cut goes . sorry i dont have pics . if i was to modify 81-up frame brackets for the ends of the frame i would cut the top off first and leave the side . but i have not ever done that as my area is rust belt and 73-80 frames are super hard to find so i only tend to play with 81-up stuff.
