Re: Mirrors.... here we go again
In the larger style mirrors chrome plating seems like a ridiculous amount of money to waste on a set of mirrors unless you are building a garage queen, trailer queen, or show only ride (IMO). If you want shiny keep looking for a nice stainless set, they come up fairly often.
Your grill center is argent and I don't remember if your steel wheels were sort of silver grey or white. Either way you could paint or powder coat to match. On my last K20 I had the arms powder coated argent which tied in with the grill and I had a set of those rectangular stainless mirrors with the yellow chevron on the back. Easy to see out of both sides and a nice stock look. |

Mark, I hope it's purty after it gets painted. Sure no garage queen though, just a gussied-up workhorse. My wheels are powdercoated a light grey and if the right set of SS mirrors don't show up, powdercoating my old mirrors might be a better option. |

Re: Mirrors.... here we go again
I just bought two of these:
https://www.grote.com/products/28093...l-retail-pack/ I got 'em from Amazon. I haven't installed them yet, but they look good after unpacking. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I needed some trailer mirrors for my '71 short step and chose these because: VERY similar appearance to the optional DG4 below-eyeline SS mirrors with 7.5" x 10.5" head. The main difference is that the short top bar that connects the mirror base to the door is flat stock, not tubular. I need something bigger than stock, but the camper mirrors (DF1 & DF2), with their long legs, would look to big on this little truck. Some might argue that the mirrors I bought are too big for a short step, but life is a compromise. Safety first If they don't stick out enough, I can make a simple round extension bar that pushes 'em out farther. And, for daily driving, I can remove the extension bar and put a smaller mirror head on 'em. I hope this info is useful to someone here. |
